There's 'comfort food' we eat to cheer us up. George Burns is great 'comfort entertainment'. We can always put on an old record, movie, or youtube video of this legend. Life suddenly seems manageable again.

Every time I hear him sing this song I am reminded of how Don Rickles used to poke gentle fun at him while doing his act if Burns was at the event. Part of his act was to poke fun at old actors by saying "I'm a friend.....its OVER!" And then he would say "at least with George we have 'old bones old bones'."
@Tre404
@Tre404 3 жыл бұрын
lol! Yes, Rickles was a wonderful foil for all his contemporaries... he had that caustic act, but his heart was of gold.. there was so much love there. Too many people just took him at face value, from his act.. they were so unwise. Rickles was pure love, and those of us who realized it were plentiful.
@retroguy9494
@retroguy9494 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tre404 Yes indeed. My mother was disgusted by his act but my father loved it. And you're right. His act did not define the man. He WAS actually a very loving and generous man. Later in life, after a skit or performance or roast he would come out of character and say some nice things about the person or hug them or say "God bless." It was the same with Jack Benny. Everyone thought he was a miser in real life, but it wasn't true. He was in fact, a VERY generous man.

His fame accelerated because of his old age, quite sad how the public cling onto famous people as they are approaching death, much like betty white, who 20 years ago was pretty much only known to most for being in the golden girls, being old seems to ingratiate people with the general public. I've read stories about men in their early 90s being released from jail due to failing health, and here people claiming they were innocent or how badly society treats elderly people. When in fact the opposite is true

You have no idea what you're talking about. Just watching some recent TV does not make you an expert on the subject as a whole. George was FAR MORE FAMOUS in the 1930s through the 1950s for his radio and TV shows with Gracie. He was never more famous than he was during those decades. He did experience a resurgence in popularity when he played in "The Sunshine Boys" and in a great many TV spectaculars in the 1970s, then in the "Oh, God!" movies later in that decade. Burns won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and the Golden Globe for Best Actor for his role in "The Sunshine Boys." You putz.
