Thank you for posting this footage. I used to trainmspot at Moor Lane Bridge and St Helens Bridge in those years. It was great to see Dringhouses Yard and Chaloners Whin as I remember them. Such good times.

I was spotting at York in those years. A rare class 50 there. Great vid.
@Aidankiwi5 жыл бұрын
The Class 50s appearing at York in 1978 were usually after they had been into Doncaster Works for refurbishment. They would often position back to the SW often on the morning Edinburgh - Plymouth service taking over from the booked Class 47 or Deltic at York after running light engine from Doncaster.

I grew in in Bishopthorpe in the 80’s and spent a lot of time on the selby line after ( and before !! ) it closed . I now live in Woodthorpe and never realised where the line split near tescos . Lovely to see this . Thank you very much .

I often drive up the A19 from Selby to York to visit a mate in Bishopthorpe and think to myself it doesn't seem that long ago since all those lovely blue era diesels were bombing along the ECML, right where I'm driving!! And then I realise that it is 35 years since it was rerouted! Great video. Thanks for sharing!! :-)

Excellent footage, Trevor! I think that every piece of rolling stock and locos in this film is now confined to history. Sad but true.

A great film of archive and heritage traction - thanks for posting this. There is so little colour film from the 1970's, this is a little goldmine (!) of the blue/grey era. Any more footage from this period will be much appreciated.

We spent time at Burton Joyce in 1978 with oil trains roaring up and down past our house all night. Black shapes coming out of the moonlight from our bedroom window. 47477 was damaged the previous year at Farnley Junction
