How did yours turn out K Queen ....... if you don't have the butter extract your pie will still turn out well. the butter just adds a layer of down home goodness ole grandma style. I would suggest that you get it because it can be used in so so many recipes for depth of flavor. Question 1) No, but you can use a spoon or butter knife to smooth you pie out but it will really smooth itself out during the bake. 2) Yes, have your pie crust completely thawed when you bake. At 350 my oven will keep my piecrust golden brown, All ovens are different, so if yours darkens your piecrust too much then bake it longer at 325 or cover rim of pie crust with strips of aluminum foil. Oh my goodness, this is the best sweet potato pie recipe I have ever used. I made 3 of these tonight for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. My family was eating the pie mix from the mixing bowl. Made this pie for Thanksgiving and it turned out great, will be making it again this Christmas. I always use to boil my sweet potatoes, but I see now how baking them really makes a difference. This is one recipe that when people won't follow it exactly I feel disappointed because I know what the end product could be but they are going to end up with just another mediocre/average sweet potato pie. Thank you, Meso, for your recipe! I made some sweet potato pies for Thanksgiving Day, following your recipe and EVERYBODY was saying how DELICIOUS they were! I did tweak the recipe just a tad by putting a pinch of ginger and a splash of condensed milk. I also put some eggwash on the edges of the piecrust before baking them. That Saturday after Thanksgiving, all of my family wanted to take a pie home (back to NYC) so I made 4 more pies! Then that Monday I made 4 more!! I will never used another recipe!! I've used this pie recipe 3 years in a row. I come back to this video every time. I do make one adjustment, it is a little sweet for my taste so instead of 4 cups of sugar I put 3 1/2 a small tweak for my personal preference but still a great recipe. One other thing I do is instead of 3 deep dish pie shells I get 2 deep dish and 2 regular to make 4 pies instead of 3!

Greetings. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I used your recipe with a minor difference in making the slurry and add another tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. The person I shared two pies with really enjoyed and so did I. Your recipe tastes like how sweet potato pie should taste unlike the Patti LaBelle sweet potato pie, which had a weird aftertaste. Tasting your recipe makes me want to test the recipe with more citrus. It's delicious. I do recommend that the sweet potato mixture be allowed to rest overnight so the flavors become more concentrated. I noticed that difference between the first and second pies. Again thank you for showing how you make your sweet potato pies. Yours even taste better than the Betty crocker sweet potato recipe my relative uses. A huge difference, too.

Omg thanks soo much for putting this to a recipe every time I ask someone how to make sweet potato pie they always say the infamous "I don't measure" lol again thanks hun I'm making this on Christmas and I'll be sure to let you know how it turned out!

Hi Nikki, I am so guilty of that because I really don't measure and didn't realize how important it is to a lot of people to know the exact measurements until I started doing my channel. That's why if I don't actually measure I still give a measurement for the viewer that will make theirs taste right. But people that watch me cook for a while eventually get the hang of eyeballing it. I'm glad you are going to try this for C'mas and if you follow the recipe exactly you will see it is the best sweet potato pie you'll ever taste and I am not just saying that. I made these pies like two weeks ago and omg. They were soooo good. It did take me two bowls to mix everything since I don’t have a big bowl. I made it exactly like you said although I was skeptical about the lemon juice everything turned out delicious. I will use this recipe forever. Thank you for this video!

Remember to lightly bake your pie crust a few minutes before you add your pie filling. You don’t want the bottom of your pie crust to taste raw or soggy.

Hey Sabrina, this would be correct info on many recipes but not needed on this one. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PRE-BAKE THE CRUST ON THIS RECIPE! Do it exactly as I have shown you and you will receive ....PERFECTION!!!!! Blessings

I made this pie last night. You don't need to prebake the crust. I did exactly as the video but halved everything for one pie and it was perfect! My top layer had a light buttery crunch then soft on the inside and the crust was flaky and crisp all the way through. I'm making this recipe for Thanksgiving!

OMG!! Delicious!! I doubled my recipe and used 5 cups sugar and 1 cup brown sugar. I also omitted the lemon juice and lemon extract. This is doggone delicious!!

You should not leave those 2 things out. When I tell if you enjoyed your pie without it, you're going to slap yourself when you put that lemon in there. Trust me. Been putting it in mine for years.
