In order for it not to taste eggy make the custard like a flan, use mostly (3) egg yokes and the rest of the eggs(2) with both whites and yokes, also substitute the sugar for condensed milk it will be smoother.

I'm not a fan of jarred nutmeg, but I do like to buy the whole nutmeg and grate it fresh (use the side of the grater that you would grate chocolate or parmesan). It's great for Italian dishes, too.
@clarkaty2 жыл бұрын
I wanted to ask about the whole nutmeg. Is this nut like a pecan? Do you have to break it open to get the actual nutmeg from the inside? I can hear it rattle when I shake it.
@janemartin2292 жыл бұрын
@@clarkaty It looks like a little nut but it's really hard. That's why you have to use the small perforated side of a box grater to get a fine grind. It shouldn't rattle if it's sold as whole nutmeg. The outside covering as it grows is mace, but it should've been removed.
@kimquinn77284 жыл бұрын
I like using a whole nutmeg and grating it over the top. So easy. Just one whole nutmeg lasts forever, it seems like. And, when you grate it, its always fresh, fresh. ...now, I'm hungry.

Great recipe. I don’t use a pie shell. I just add a half a cup of flour. Plain flour add a tablespoon of baking powder and a splash of salt. Or just self rising flour added to the mixture in the mixer. Mixed well. That’s my pie crust. LETTING it bake about a hour on 350.OK.
