Old Man Dutch Origins - The Alpha Predator Killer, Yautja Slaughterer, Where Is Dutch Now?

It doesn’t matter which generation you belong to. If you were asked to name a character from the Predator franchise, the first name that would come to mind would probably be Dutch, the very epitome of masculinity and testosterone. Despite only appearing in one film, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer, is the heart and soul of the Predator franchise. Undoubtedly, Dutch is one of the strongest, most morally sound characters the franchise has seen. Even though his journey ends in the first film, a video game later reveals tapes voiced by Arnold himself that highlight Dutch’s journey after the events of the 1987 film, and maybe that wasn’t enough for the fans, but it gave them some kind of closure when it came to Dutch’s character arc. In this video, we will explore everything we know about Dutch’s history in the Predator and AvP franchises, along with a comic series that features his brother, and why Arnold Schwarzenegger did not return to this infamous franchise. Dutch is to Predator, what Ripley is to Alien. It's a crime his character hasn't returned in any other Predator film. They need to construct a storyline for the Dutch character to return with a film that does the character justice. Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't getting any younger, hopefully they'll make a film with his character, especially considering the recent interest in the franchise due to the new "Predator Pery" film.

I always imagined that commando was the sequel for Dutch in spirit. He retired after dealing with all of that in predator, lived in the forest where his survival skills could be constantly maintained, and avoided all contact with people, who evidently would not understand his position. After all that, it would be something more human from his black ops past that dragged him back into it, not the predator. After dealing with the problem he would go back to his home in the woods, with his daughter and girlfriend, and live out his days in peace.

Did you know that in one timeline Skynet modeled the 101 after Dutch due to an encounter with Predators. The 101 model wasn't made to Infiltrate humans, it was bait to lure Predators into traps to harvest their tech. Plasma rifles are based off of shoulder launchers.

Stallone was/is a fabulous actor, but there are some roles that are tailored made for one actor (because nobody else can quite pull it off as good), and Arnold was the best possible man for this movie. The fact that Dutch knew those men were Greenies and knew their commander personally, it's quite obvious he and his SAR team are ex-Greenies as well and are now government contractors. I love this movie and have it right up there with Alien and Terminator as far as sci-fi/horror movies go. Arnold was so perfectly cast in this movie as was every other character. And when you watch it and realize it's 35 years old already, it just holds up so well, even by today's standards.

Predator 2 took me years to appreciate, but the idea of Danny Glover being a cop, and not an elite marine is a really cool idea, and nice way to mix it up. I thought that each Predator movie would be different from the last like the first 2 had started, but the legacy just got shit on. That said, I'm gonna watch Prey tonight as soon as it's ready for streaming and I'm totally stoked.

I have to agree he said it was hundreds of years ago so that clan version of predator was less advanced and even looked different because of evolution. So, he didn't stay cloaked the entire time and was more physical in combat versus use camouflage and energy blast so I take back what I said except the small Indian girl being stronger than Dutch. That part is still unrealistic. Everything else the predator killing all of the white settlers and natives brutally I get. So, I changed my view from it being garbage to a decent film just on that. It's not better than the first 2 films but better than all the other ones except predators which I loved. Avp films I wasn't a fan of. Prey gets a new rating from me an 8.5 out of 10. I mean Dutch had got his ass whooped by the smaller predator clan hand to hand so some small Indian girl is going to be better than Dutch hell no. They have space travel im sure cloakin aint a issue. I think the problem was that the Feral Pred was a young male on his first big solo hunt. So he wasnt dressed up in cool armor with the best cloaking and voice replication, and equipped with lasers and drone discs that attack and return and shit... he was basic because he hadnt earned the big boy shit. I could be wrong but thats why he let the girl live so long. Bc he was young and arrogant and didnt realize that she could become a threat. And the fact the she was a small chick, dont forget the life she would've lived would have made her strong in a way most people dont get nowadays. While the fight with the pred is farfetched and we all know she should have died i enjoyed the story less for her growth and more for the predator lore and understanding. Bc imo the Feral had some of the best predator scenes in the whole franchise. Idky but i really dug him.

I like Dutch, but I was more impressed with Royce from Predators. He was quick to understand what he was dealing with, was easily able to understand their tactics, and even though his group was less trained as a whole, and antagonistic to each other at first. He and them were still able to kill 3 larger, and better armed super predators.

I remember seeing an interview with Arnie 15-20 years ago, and he was asked why he did a Terminator sequel and not a Predator sequel. He said something like He didn't see how the story could carry on with Predator but he could with Terminator. I remember thinking the opposite, in Terminator they thwarted Skynets attempt to change history so Skynet was doomed. On the other hand in Predator, Dutch killed a predator warrior and you would think others would be lining up to have a go at dutch, or it make earth a more challenging hunting zone. I'm so glad He did T2, but I think it was a mistake he did not do another Predator movie, for the reason he gave anyway.

I don't know, the narrative of the predators going to war to "settle a score" doesn't really fit. Through out the stories, there are multiple moments in which predators honor those who bested a Yautja warrior, or have proven otherwise to be a worthy warrior: The original predator taking off his mask to fight Dutch face to face. Giving Harrigan the pistol as a sign of honor. A Predator sparing Dutch (in comic) presumably because he/she recognized him. In AvP, a Predator fashioned weapons for Lex after she killed a Xenomorph (if that's not recognizing Lex as a worthy warrior, then I don't know...) Also AvP, Lex received a spear as a sign of honor. This kind of behavior also strongly suggests that the Yautja have 'some' sort of code of honor and starting a war to "settle a score" is usually not part of such code of honor. Or at least it doesn't strike me as plausible.

I just love that Laurence Fishburne was supposed to be Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch, having been captured by the Yautja and hunted, for several seasons, but that he always won or survived and in any case was not found etc. Due to scheduling and or him perhaps being a governor at the time, not sure about the timeline, that did not happen, but that would have been so cool, and he should have survived then too.

Not to late to go that direction, I would write a script where he survives on a predator game planet, the planet delays aging and is used to hyper evolutionize aliens. For predators to hunt. I'd start with a grab bag of human fighters dropped down on the planet, but they soon find aliens attack them ( think avatar like planet with fantastic beasts) they suffer losses a few die, and then when you think you the humans are done ...DUTCH Shows up..he says come with me if you want to live. The remaining band together under Arnie , who shows his battle knowledge of the planet so designating himself the Alpha, he explains to the warband how things are done here , the hunting seasons , the other aliens hyper evolution on the planet ...Arnie himself looks to have a bizzare strength and knowledge ..( kicker is he has a symbiote that gives him faster reactions adrenaline and knowledge so he is able to do superhuman feats... But the symbiote itself has alterior motive ( symbiote always looks for the strongest host) anyway ..after blasting through hordes of aliens and encountering a few Youngbloods.. they come upon some unique horrors of the planet which ultimately lead to an ancient predator decending to the planets surface to do battle with a prize worthy of an ancient predator...it's chaos with 4 or 5 groups all clamoring for survival, a way off the planet, or revenge...

The tricky part about future hunts is that they can be anywhere around the world and they happen only once every 10 years, so the only ways to cross paths with a Predator is by either setting a bait or being real unlucky to be a target. My guess is that Dutch didn't "hire" Keyes' men like Dillon did. Instead he just took advantage of the situation, which was their mission to find another Predator and managed to get in after they were all dead. Not that him going after another Predator would change anything at that point, but it would be the best strategy. We still don't know where the 2007 and 2017 hunts happened, so maybe Dutch was messing with those at the same time of the events of 'Alien Vs Predator' and 'The Predator'.

If you played the ps4 game predator that came out in 2020 I think it gave a very good background story on what he did during predator 2 and later on in the story line . He even hunts the predator in Africa and he actually knows when they comes to earth . The video game did give a good source of info on what he doing since the first movie. For me they need a live action movie like Arnold told story of Dutch before he got old in the predator lore . They need to do more with this character.

Every other person hit with the shoulder mounted cannon either head explodes, arm completely ripped off, Dutch? a loud scream and barely a bit of blood. That scene where there's two blades on either side of his neck? Didn't realize the Yautja's wrist blades has a setting where they flair outward just to make a great movie shot!

The blonde Dutch in the comic pages isn't Arnold's character, it's Dutch's brother who was a cop and looking for Dutch after the incident from the movie. The Predator comics were a bit like the Aliens ones where they didn't have likeness rights

Now I know why Arnold did not do Predator 2. The producers should have not doubted Arnold. Predator 2 could have been a big hit if Arnold continuously played Dutch.

Arnold is why this franchise even exists. It’s blasphemous to continue trying to make more of them. They’ve all been hard to watch since. Prey was actually better than expected and tied things together. AvP was really good but also fell short in a lot of ways. Dutch is what made Predator a timeless classic.

It's funny. Usually 80s action movies get a bunch of sequels with the same actor in the main role. Alien, Terminator, Robocop, Back To The Future, Karate Kid, etc. For some reason, that never happened with Predator. Seriously, not a single actor or director in any of the movies ever returned. Not even the ones that were direct sequels such as Alien Vs Predator. I guarantee that, if Arnold was in Predator, the franchise would be a completely different story, with Dutch and Mike teaming up against City Hunter, and possibly a Predator 3 with the 2 joined by another 80s star such as Van Damme, who was originally going to be the Jungle Hunter before Kevin Peter Hall (R.I.P.). Saddly, we are yet to see any of these icons return in their roles.

Predator 2 was a good sequel, Glover overdid it at times but he was only working with what he was given. Its a solid story that only would have been better with Arnold teaming up with Glover.

Predator hunting grounds. You can play as a squad of humans trying to survive it kill the predator or play as one and try and kill the players before they extract. They added dutch as dlc for the humans

I would love to see Arnold Schwarzenegger do another Predator movie. I mean Sigourney Weaver returned for Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection. Which in my opinion are really screwed up bad movies. As Arnold would put it. I would even settle for a movie that has a similar but better animation style to Beowulf (2007). With Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his role as Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer. As much as Prey is a good movie and it ties in with Predator and Predator 2. Especially them using a couple of Arnold's lines and the gun Danny Glover's character Lieutenant Michael R Harrigan got at the end of Predator 2. It's still not the same. I just want a sequel with Arnie back as Dutch in a movie. Not just a game.
