As a person from far away in Europe I always saw these Corvettes C5's and first things that come to my mind are Bright Yellow or Red corvettes , palm trees and beaches , sunrises and driving it coast to coast with a targa roof. It's not "just an Audi" it's "a prime example of perfect German Engineering" same as how an American would see their Camaro as "What American Manufacturing can do when performance is the goal." Something about it being a home-country brand makes it "better" in the eyes of old people who play into nationality.

Is it just me who thinks the whole “my wife is making me sell it” thing is really sad. Saw something similar with my granddad, although that was a Mk5 Golf 1.6, not a Corvette and they didn’t sell it my grandmother (i think) gave it to my aunt. My granddad wasn’t really “healthy enough” to continue driving, but it was still really sad to see grandma take his car away. Remember the last time i rode with him, he stalled it and tried to start it in second multiple times until I told him to get it in to first, then he forgot how to open the fuel door, took me some time to find it (since i wasn’t familiar with VAG cars). My grandma gave him an earful when we got home. My granddad suffers from dementia.

I owned a 2002 FRC Z06 and turned it into a dedicated race car (gutted, caged, entirely rebuilt and hardened drivetrain, dry sump oiling, etc). It's one of the most wonderful cars I've ever owned. I plan to buy a C6 Z06 in the near future and keep it street legal. I will tastefully modify the performance characteristics (suspension and driveline upgrades), but leave the exterior pretty much stock. These cars don't need the ugly visual mods that the boomer types have done over the years. They need to be driven and enjoyed.

2003 c5z owner here. Bought it with 23 000kms for $26 k cad. This car was over 50k new in 03. Had it for 5 years its an absolute blast. I've road tripped this thing all over the west coast of Canada. It hauls ass and still gets 8/L per 100km. Cheap on insurance, fuel and maintenance. It's a poor man's racecar. That's why it's amazing.

Man.. makes me miss my 2001 Z28.. Got it brand new right after getting out of the Air Force when I got a "real" job. 6spd Hurst shifter from the factory, red, black leather, T-tops, no traction control, brushed aluminum rims with factory Z rated tiers.. skipshift, air lid, and a Hooker cat back. Man.. I loved that car. I'm tall and just can't fit into a Corvette. I really miss that power.. driving highway speeds at what feels like idle rpm.. Garage kept in winter. the one time I really opened it up I remember it not feeling "that fast" around 125mph.. focusing on the road... I could hear I needed to shift again.. but I was in 5th gear.. I shift in to 6th gear... still eyes on the road... right before I let off I look down and it's still pulling at 145mph. This felt fast. I had a 1/4 mile drag slip with 12.9 ET. Man I miss that car.. Sold it because I had a kid and a car seat would not fit in the car.. and really did need to get a more family car.

I've wanted a C5 since seeing one take off like a rocket from a toll booth 14 years ago on my way to Rosemont, IL for a convention. It looked effortless, and there I was having to mash the pedal on my 4-banger that was a Pontiac Shitfire. Reliable engine, but from a standstill it went 0-60 in "I don't wanna. Five more minutes..." seconds, so naturally anything would've been better. The Corvette took off like a juiced up track runner.

Harley owners think that because their bike hasn't changed since 1950 they can charge like it's an antique from 1950. Granted he was right about the rarity (it was an 82 c3 but had the full period correct greenwood Daytona body kit and period bbs wheels. Looking back im pretty sad I decided on not buying it but unfortunately I suspect it had body warping because the t-tops didn't sit right (they looked kinda cock eyed when looking at em dead on from the front) and some rot in parts of the frame
