Hearing you speak of your mother and making cornbread made me miss my parents. So, for dinner we are having pinto beans, and cornbread. I was raised eating cornbread with sweet or buttermilk. That is comfort food for me. My mother and grandmother were great cooks and could make a meal out of nothing. We ate grits and rice with butter, sugar and a sprinkle of salt. Thank you, for sharing your recipes and stories.

Rice with butter and sugar is a type of breakfast food in the South. That's truly Southern. Born in TN and that's how we ate rice. I sometimes eat plain rice as a side dish. Rice pudding is the other option. Rice pudding and bread pudding are wonderful treats. 😀

Glad your channel came up in my feed. It’s refreshing to see someone cook the way my grandmother and her sisters (Great-aunts) taught me starting at 8 years old. They’re from Mississippi and Tennessee. The eldest of 11 children, at 10 years old, I made cornbread (in the oven and on top of the stove) cakes, frosting, and sweet potato pies from scratch. Your cooking bring back many fond memories.

For Sunday breakfast she served rice, fried pork chops and gravy, biscuits, grits, sausage borh patties and links, and more. I had never heard of having rice for breakfast but it was a treat. Made the cornbread. I only used 1/4 cup of sugar and I used 3/4 stick butter and 2 tbl if olive oil. I used white cornmeal. It was so good. All I could say was that it reminded me of my granny. She could cook ... however.... Sir, that's off to you. Well played. This is a staple now. Have a great day.. remember your moms smile whenever you feel down. And bask in the greatness of Gods love for you.

My father-in-law, Fred, God rest his soul, talked about crumble too! That’s what he called it. He said they put it in a glass of buttermilk and crumbled up the cornbread. He and his momma were from Paducah KY. He was 80 when he died in 2003. + it was one of his favorite foods.

I scaled down this recipe to try tonight since I didn't need as much as its written and it is delicious! I didn't change anything besides adding a pinch of salt when I put in the raisins vanilla and spices. I haven't had a good rice pudding in years since most recipes are either too sweet or unflavorful. Yours is the perfect balance of sweet and creamy without being too rich or cloying. The only time I had sugar in rice was rice pudding...it was good but I like bread pudding much more than rice pudding. I love my Dutch ovens too, I have two. After watching another one of your videos I ordered my second one. I had always wanted another one but you confirmed it for me 😊 #AReasonToShop I love old school cornbread from scratch. Chef Jeffrey, your story of rice is the same as mine. Sugar and butter and we ate it for breakfast . Thanks for the tip with the sour cream in the corn bread.

I like your channel! New subscriber. I’m amazed how you keep a clean cooking area lol. I make a mess when cooking.
