I understand what you mean. You need to have rather good knowledge about it to understand it. I know from own experience when my sister ask me to do something, she say -can you help me fix this, it can´t take so long time! She say this without knowing anything about how difficult or how long it take. And then she not understand how much help she got...

You have inspired me to the point where I am about to do the same here in california altought building codes and inspections are quite different. I am on the market for remote property currently, why would i spend 750k on a decent sized property with a house when I can buy a remote plot of land with power for 150k and build a house on my own for a similar amount to what you spent when time is not a major issue? Housing out here is insane. Thank you for your videos and the inspiration, you have potentially lowered my retirement age by 15 or more years.

I have purchased land in BC for a residential home and am quoted 225K + hydro,sewage,driveway etc for 900sq feet 1 story delivered. im a beginner builder, soaking up all this information ( yours and other channels ) while attempting to build small projects ( camper, box, shelves.. doing wiring, basic cutting, measurments, patio ) And I feel like I am beginning to find courage to not only save a huge amount of money, but go through an experience I will remember for a lifetime. My biggest fear is building an ugly house that leaks and breaks .. lol ! cheers from vancouver island mate

I'm going to build a house in Poland. Actually, two houses. One regular and the other guest house. Although I'm not sure if I will make the same technology in the case of the main house, I will build a wooden frame house as a guest house. Much smaller than yours. I learned a lot. I like to do things independently, and your film inspires me. It gives me a lot of practical pieces of advice.

The only thing that I don't understand is why you installed this kind of window. I know, they are very Swedish, but when it comes to cleaning them, it's a nightmare. Especially upstairs. Modern, rotated windows, or open to inside, would be more practical.

Is there anything you would do differently if you had to start over again? 3. What is the plan for heating the house? You have air to air heat pump and you mentioned a stove.

Just look at his day counter times whatever the day rate is for your local tradesman - im sure he also put in long days meaning a workday is 8h normally but his peobbaly longer so you have to add some days accordingly. Where I am about 1k adayper person. Labour alone is often up to 50% of the total cost. So double his cost plus land.

Great series, thank you for sharing it all with us! I've been thinking about the shear strength of the wall system. Normally, you'd fasten the OSB into the studs "stitching them up" with a high density of nails for high shear strength. In your system the OSB is attached to the studs indirectly through those thin horizontal wood strips. Doesn't that lower the shear strength of the walls enough to require some diagonal bracing?

I live in the Netherlands and I am a carpenter. Due major migration and small land area and all regulations they make it imposible for low income to even buy a piece of land to build on. And dont get me started on houses that need heavy renovation. Those go away for crazy prices and are not afailable often.

A few questions/remarks: 1) No vapour barrier underneath the floor? That's a ventilated crawlspace though, right? 2) No continuous vapour barrier from the first floor to the second floor ceiling/walls? 3) When installing vertical siding it's common over here (in Estonia) to first place the vertical strips of wood and then the horizontal ones above - this guarantees water can drip down if it gets behind the siding and also there is enough airflow for it to dry out. 4) Running wires diagonally on the walls? Hmm... But I'm just nitpicking here. It's really impressive to do something like this on your own. Thanks for sharing!
@Coole-ee1vg2 ай бұрын
Watch the videos:1. vapor barrier under the beams, 2. vapor barrier follows absolutely perfect from the bottom to the top.3 ?? 4. No problem with diagonal pipes with wires inside, I have worked as an electrician since I was 15 years and at 69 years this has never ever been a problem . I have worked in building villas, houses 2-20+ floors, office buildings , ships ( 1.500 pax) and much much more. Never been a problem.
