I don't think the classical musicians these days have big big fame-induced egos like what you would imagine of a pop star/celebrity. I mean, on a basic level, as someone once said to me in a masterclass, "Classical music famous is not Taylor Swift famous." haha. And being a successful classical musician almost certainly guarantees you to be a true expert and self-critiquing perfectionist. The more you know and can do, the more you know how much more there is you need to know and do. So it really makes one very humble.

They have been friends so long, you know. They are both from Brisbane, and trust me it’s a such a small city and they also went, played, & studied in the same circle, which was ordinary if you want to be a professional classical musician in Brisbane.
@user-gu9yq5sj7c2 жыл бұрын
@@nickxiao6126 Idk about that, but unfortunately, there are classical people or hobbyists who act elitist and bash other genres like pop and modern music. I like classical too and many genres. There's videos and thousands of comments on them saying that modern music is bad or not music. There's also comments there saying classical is superior. I think partly, these people's want to grift; an excuse to bully; or be edgy, contrarian, or trendy. Such as it's trendy to hate on certain things, like modern and classical music.

So I'm a figure skater, that means being on the ice on my own, while the whole arena is watching. It is very intimidating to know that the judges have a replay system, and they can rewatch every little detail in slow motion. What made me more confidence was when I overheard another skater's grandma saying "oh you were so amazing, because you DIDN'T FALL". I mean, it's like saying you are amazing because you can hold a violin. 😂 Then I realized that there are only a few judges, but hundreds of grandparents / family friends / classmates, who have no idea whatsoever about skating, so whatever I do, they will find it amazing. So ever since I go out to the ice like LET'S SHOW THEM SOME AWESOMENESS, because I KNOW that even my worst performance looks awesome for them. And it really helps if you KNOW that the whole arena thinks you are awesome.

I was really glad to hear Ray encourage Brett in the area of confidence and to not overthink, but to really go for it and play. This is something that I’ve noticed about Brett in the past. However, Brett REALLY IS better than he believes. When Brett becomes nervous it also seems that he becomes intimidated, which effects his musicality, which has caused Brett to (at times) perform like a shy violinist. However, if Brett works on Ray’s advice to relax, not over think and just go for it, we will definitely see a new level of Brett’s playing. Again I say, Brett is significantly better than he thinks he is! There are moments when he was relaxed and joking around that I’ve gotten a glimpse of how good Brett really is on the violin. Brett has the skills to perform the Mendelssohn concerto well, he only has to believe in himself. So Brett, I respectfully say directly to you please do not overthink it. Ray’s compliment to you in the video was legit, we noticed. I say all of this to encourage you. As you continue to prepare the technical parts, please continue to believe in yourself and learn relaxation techniques. These things will naturally build your confidence, drastically reduced any technical mistakes resulting in you performing with even more vigor, your musicality will soar. You have another level in you as a violinist, even I can see it. You don’t have to work for that next level it’s already sitting there in you waiting to be released as you relax more and believe in yourself, the result will immediately show in your playing. As Ray said, go for it and play Brett… play!😁

@creativecolours2022 Жыл бұрын
That is exactly what I've noticed on Brett. That he is a bit nervous or perhaps shy and that shows in his playing. Though he is technically very advanced his sound lacks the clarity of Ray's playing not because he doesn't have the skill but mostly because he lacks the self confidence to play like Ray. And that confirms what I've always said. That the best soloists are those who have self confident on and off stage. The technique is something that can be taught and improved with a lot of practice. But you need a certain kind of character in order to be able to perform well and show all your technique in front of the audience.

While I wouldn't be surprised if he's improved since then, I suspect the bigger factor is that he's playing with a real orchestra rather than just fooling around with Eddy, along with having an actual audience, so he's taking it far more seriously. Not only does he want to play well for the audience, but he's playing with a room full of professional musicians, and it would be disrespectful to do anything other than his utmost best. Brett used to be so good at using dynamic markings for his musicality (as a child) but somehow he kind of forgets it when he's nervous.....or he has outgrown that and focused more on projection that the p/pp/ppp/>/< parts gets swallowed up by the big sound he's trying to produce. I did notice his gentle playing coming back with his new violin but I think he's either too nervous or he hasnt shaken off his habit of trying to be big as possible. I really think Brett's interpretation is still coming off really strong and it's got that quite raw energy that still needs a bit of refining (im sure when he's a little bit more awake, we get to see that refined version more). Ray's version is one of my favourite recordings of the Mendy and I've always associated Mendy with childhood memories and the rollercoaster of emotions as a child (the story in my head for mendy is like this: 1st mvt-trying to convince my _strict & very asian_ parents to buy me toys, 2nd mvt-bargaining with parents using grades, 3rd mvt-getting to enjoy the toy) and it was Ray's recording that made me have that imagery so I've held that imagery as a reference every time i hear mendy. Case in point, here's my opinion on other recordings: Janine's got a juicier mendy so I imagined that instead of a toy, it's letting me out to play outside. Hilary is so on point, she made me think I wanted a lot of toys (like I raided and shoved every toy possible in the shop). Perlman's recording gave me the same vibes as Ray. Not saying I am comparing but Brett's version to these great guys but he gave me an imagery of naive teenage love, always headstrong, and always impulsive. Which is nice! But it caught me off guard. Maybe it's got to do with the mic position too. Recordings got a very far mic whereas tsv videos have theirs at a 1-2 m distance so the sound may come off strong. Anyway, I love that these nerds decided to give us something to think and ponder ♥️♥️♥️ Like.........how Ray holds his chopsticks. 🤔 and how he sleeps like a cocoon but still gets bed head 🤔

It’s funny; ray’s playing is still amazing as always, but is is clear how hard Brett has practiced this, as he almost sounds like Ray’s equal playing a piece in which he specializes. Incredibly what practice can achieve!

I kind of love how this isn't staged and it looks more realistic. Like, twoset would usually just film in that one room, but now we get to see the rest of the place. Really cool. Also would love to see more Ray Chen videos

It's so funny to look at sleepy Brett. He looks so tired which is very relatable, but at the same time he's surprisingly cute even after sleeping nearly five hours which is really a superpower. And his playing here of course... Amazing🥰

Loved seeing Brett actually smiling while playing. He has smiled in videos before, but normally he has this intense look of focus and parts really felt like he's got this. That and Ray Chen being such an awesome role model and friend. Amazing wholesome content!!

Okay, so Ray playing while sleepy and still in his PJs with bed head is a thing I never knew I needed in my life. And yet here we are. Also, I am filled with all kinds of warm fuzzies that even though it's to make content, Ray and Eddy are both in an Airbnb, having fun, playing Smash Bros and supporting Brett so much with this. And Brett already sounds SO polished, I know I'm going to be so proud of him and his performance. I can't wait until the show happens, I just wish that I was able to be there in person, but I'll have to enjoy it online. To think all this came from a ridiculous pun that we all took seriously.
