So the reason the picture was changed was because the picture used was of an actual sculpture and the artist had an intention for the art. But Becase of its fame it was known for the SCP and not what the artist made it for. So the artist asked them to take it down but they made them a new one for the purpose of being SCP 173

There was actually a contest for the new statue. They all leaned heavily into the rebar aspect that the old visibly lacked. Possibly to distinguish it from the original. From what i remember they didn't want to keep asking the artist for use for future stories when the artist was reluctant in the first place.

For those that don’t know in 2022 that image of what is the famous design for SCP - 173 was actually the artwork and sculpture of Japanese artist Izumi Kato's the famous image being named Untitled 2004. The SCP foundation wiki has had a problem with using copyrighted images and videos for a while. The problem with this is not only copyright, but the fact that the SCP foundation wiki website is meant to be creative Commons. The famous image was removed from the wiki as the final copyrighted thing on the wiki. The reason it took so long to be removed is because Izumi Kato had, although not initially did give the people of the SCP wiki permission to use it for non-commercial purposes. Obviously that didn’t turn out so well considering SCP started becoming mainstream and famous leading to for example, many KZbin channels being created and based around SCP some of who didn’t have a care in the world and monetized their videos anyway. Stuff like that left a bad image of the wiki and put a bad taste in the mouth of the wiki writers eventually it was agreed to remove the image, especially since the permission of Izumi Kato was very reluctantly given. But Izumi Kato was starting to essentially get fed up with it and rightfully so since the meaning of his artwork had been shifted into something he did not want, having the message he intended to be warped into one of the Internet’s most famous faces of horror. Nowadays, there is no image on the SCP - 173 article Leaving only the description of the statue to be the basis of anyone’s design. It could look like, however you imagine it to be as long as it fits the description, the description being “a statue made of concrete, rebar and Krylon brand spray paint”

I bit grateful that there's no real official image. Hate to be an art critic but some of the proposed redesigns looked awful and missed why peanut worked. They aren't thinking as an artist making an artistic statement with a sculpture but as artists making an SCP.

Eh, I would've used that one what if catalog where SCP 106 destroys SCP 173 to explain the sculpture's design change. Maybe have The Old Man almost destroy the Sculpture, only for it to be saved for whatever reason when it was about to be finished, like SCP 507 randomly appearing in 106's dimension due to his dimension hopping ability, and SCP 173 snaps his neck right when the effect triggers again, warping the heavily damaged sculpture out of the torture dimension and leaving it in the state it's known for today (don't worry, that was a 507 from a different dimension, there are hypothetically infinite versions of him, after all), or something else to that effect.

If there are two sculptures, then the maker is someone with enough resources of materials and thaumaturgy in order to make them both durable and conscious operational, but the souls used for inscribing them are somewhere from the Abyss. It's something like a spawning portal using souls to be engraved into their shells by first making them enhanced golems. Anyway, apply acid in order to destroy them, maybe they might be also vulnerable to exorcism practices.

I literally refuse to believe this is real or that it was make by a 2 year old. - The O5-Council wouldn't do something as stupid as let the OG 173 get destroyed. - theres no reason why that guy had to die. - The New 173 trying to kill the old 173 makes no sense. They both are the same being in a way, therefore have the same goals (escaping the Foundation and snapping neck) so they would work together. - Everyone forgeting about the OG 173 and thinking the new one was always there was never explained. - The Foundations whole motto is 'Secure Contain Protect (S.C.P). So again letting the OG 173 die makes no sense. - lastly the whole, "both 173's having no eyes thing therefore can move while looking at eachother" thing is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's not about having real eyes but that they are being seen/looked at, it's like a psychic thing 173 just knows (similar to how 096 works, you can be on Mars or across the galaxy and it would still know you've seen it's face). In reality It would be like in DW's "Blink" where the angels are stuck looking at each other for all eternity, except here it's both SCP-173. Small side thing but the thumbnail is horrible and is kinda clickbait with the "Design Ruined" text box. Plus we dont even see OG 173 get killed/the new one bursting through the old ones back or whatever tf it's supposed to be.
