Hearing a typewriter while the rain hits the window. That was lovely poetry. :-) take care.

I'm a librarian in an art school in France, and one of the main curriculums is called media archeology; the teachers and students work with old tech like Minitel (the ancestor of computers and Internet that existed in France during the 80s and 90s) and old computers like the one you have. It will certainly soon belong in museums, if it's not already the case!

The toaster on our kitchen table, in ordinary use, is from the 1920s. It's a flip down, not a pop up. Then there's the books. The oldest is 1843. Touching the pages is its own quiet thrill. Your typewriter looks like the one I got at home for practice when I took typing in school. It staves off carpal tunnel problems insofar that you have to keep your wrists up to get the keys to go down hard enough!

I love the sound of old phone's, in work we used a pen to dial with. My father put a phone lock on ours, because I was never off it. Unbeknownst to him, l could pick it with a hair pin .

Oh how I love seeing what beautiful old things other people have and use. My singer is from the 1800s with original receipt from South Africa, and it was converted to an electric in 1960 and I use it. I have a phonograph from the late 1800s, that was brought over from America after WW2 and it sounds amazing. Nearly all my kitchen gadgets are antiques. I've been looking at antique blenders but they're so expensive so am using my nearly antique sunbeam. I finally found an antique carpet, Ewbank, sweeper and it works. I think I could go on and on but I'll stop now. I just love that there are people like you who are showing others old is better and will outlast new plastic rubbish. I just love you computer 😍. Thankyou for another wonderful episode 🤗 xx

I very much enjoy your videos. I was born January 2, 1940 and, even so, still remember hearing Winston Churchill broadcast during dinner when I was between 3 and 5 years old. He had such a distinctive voice that it stuck. Occasionally, Roosevelt also broadcast. Anyway, I lived through that time period. My dad built a house on grandpa and grandma's farm. They had been milk producers, then changed to turkey raising. I remember my mom having to race to the turkey enclosure if it started to rain as the turkeys w❤old all pile up in one corner of the enclosure in fright and those on the bottom would suffocate. Turkeys are dumb birds. About 1944, grandpa sold the farm to Captain Aretz, who opened an airport. I spent hours there every day and flew in many planes. I especially love seeing your house. I know it gives you and your mom much please as it does me too. Keep up the good work.

Ha ha I forgot about clippy! We had that same computer. I also have a rotary phone that I bought for five $ and my grand kids have played with it since they were toddlers. I remember the frustration of dialing and getting to the last number only to have your finger slip. Redo! I used to use a hair dryer like the one you bought your mum, when visiting my grandmother. It had a hood and was so relaxing to use. I bought one like it, green metal with Bakelite handle, and the antique store owner plugged it in to show me it works. I have it hanging on the wall in my upstairs bathroom. ❤

As a child we had a bakerlite phone. I was quite small but my parents taught me to use it in case of an emergency. It sat on a corner shelf in the hall way and there was a lovely chair beneath, presumably for the grown ups to sit on whilst chatting. To answer it, I had to kneel on the chair and because itwas so heavy I needed both hands to pick up the receiver. You had to answer with your exchange name and your number, our number was 657, sixty plus years later and I still remember it so clearly.

Hannah I've got a landline and use it make calls on way more than my mobile because mobiles have poor sound quality and break up a lot. My telephone is a GPO retro model made to resemble the black 1930s phones. It's called The Duke. It has push buttons on the dial but has the old ring tone and looks classy. GPO also sell retro phones that actually dial too.

We have a rule in our house; it must be at least 100 years old, and useable. We don't have space for dust collectables so I use my antique treadle sewing machine, and kitchen scales, and coffee grinder, and cast-iron cookware, and wind-up clock and ...... Lol The list goes on! I'm loving your videos, which I only just discovered!

Lovely video as always, I love my typewriter too! We genuinely, wherever it's possible don't buy anything for our house that's newly made. Things are made so cheaply and poorly now it feels like an absolute waste of money. The things we use everyday are usually at least 60 years old and they work beautifully. Also if they go wrong you can fix them! The built to break cycle of modern consumerism is horrible to me.

I was a fan of "Clippy" in Windows 95... I miss him... Lol... I also miss the old telephones with the discs to dial up the numbers. Sorry, I'm 60 y.o. so, all those things are still lovely to me. That hair dryer is so nice. My aunt had one like that. My mom had a sewing machine like yours, but it was a Singer. My dad changed the system to make it electrical so then my mom didn't need to use her legs to make it work, it could be used on a normal table like the new ones. My eldest daughter has and old typewriter, and like me and her sister and brother, she learned to type with all the fingers and without seeing the typing. That was taught at school in my country, until last decade, not now. I really would like to have that antique stove with that oven, but in my country they are extinct, nobody have one. The fridge is still available at some places, but nobody wants them because they consume too much electricity and over here, the bills on energy are very expensive, so everybody wants appliances that consume very few electricity. Thank you, to share this with us...

Nice piano intro. We had a New World cooker in our council house, albeit a slightly model than yours . As for a landline phone, I bought my translucent lime green phone from BT in 1999, and it's still going strong.

3:54 I have a 1940s and gas stove with the four burners on top and a oven with a broiler underneath on the right side and storage on the left side and it's huge but it's gorgeous and I love it so much! I didn't get as much of a bargain as you did, but I did get it for US$125 and I love it. The woman who sold it to me took it out of the house that she bought and it was a war era house and probably, we think, that the stove was original to the house. It was more of an adoption than a purchase because she said other people had told her that they were looking for any unit to just throw into a rental and they didn't respect it or the history and she told them but it was not available and then when I messaged and was so excited about how beautiful she is, the seller let me buy it. ❤❤❤

OMG!~~ I saw the sewing machine and it reminded of my grandma. We had a Singer old (1950's or so) sewing machine that my parents sold in 2016. I was really sad, but GOD that was a piece of art that my grandma used until 2014. ^^ ( my only deception is that i never asked my grandma to teach me to use it)

Lovely video! That phone! I love it! I don't have a lot of older things in the house. I have a few books that are a hundred years old. My first computer from 1979, and a cloth pencil case that my grandmother made for my father when he was in primary school so it would be from around 1945 to 1950 if I had to guess. Zipper still works!

Just shows how fast computer technology has moved on. Glad you've found a use for your 1990s computer- much better than putting it in a landfill. If you use it to go online I hope it can accept the latest anti virus software! I had a 2000 computer around 2012-2014 and it went to the blue screen of death twice a year! I then discovered Linux and Chromebooks, so no more of that!

PCs have a button battery on the motherboard to save the date and time when not plugged in. If you leave it unplugged long enough, the battery will eventually run out. Then you will have to replace the battery and reset the date and time.
