Very few people can narrow down to a single favorite song. This is mine. 😊

Nice reaction! Enjoyed hearing your thoughts! Queensryche is a BRILLIANT and singular band! This song is an outlier. They are progressive metal and a whole lot MORE! THIS song, written by guitarist, Chris de Garmo, is about lucid dreaming. It's beautiful and was nominated for a Grammy. I recommend their highly acclaimed concept album: "OPERATION: MINDCRIME". Listen sequentially or you won't get the full meaning of the lyrics. Fantastic story, written in 1988, but is topically still relevant today. QR music is very well-written and the music always fits the lyrics. They write about a variety of topics: Vampires, computer dystopia, societal issues, a few love songs, some of which are obsessive in nature. There is always something interesting or unexpected in their songs. Check their first 5 albums or so for the best representation of the original lineup of this band. They are still making records but with only 2 of the original 5 members. You might like: "Take Hold of the Flame" LIVE in Tokyo, 1984. Really shows off Geoff''s beautiful voice and range. Only their second concert I believe, but you wouldn't know it! Very tight! Killer drums too! "Walk in the Shadows" about vampires. "Killing Words" MTV Unplugged 1992. "Speak" from Operation:Mindcrime "Eyes of a Stranger" also from O:M. "The Mission" from O:M. "Roads To Madness" think of the movie: "Flatliners" "Anybody Listening?" "One More Time" "Real World" "Jet City Woman" "The Thin Line" "Another Rainy Night" "Screaming in Digital" "I Dream in Infrared" I hope you look into Queensryche more in depth! You'll be glad you did! (Yes, it's pronounced queens-rike as in "bike".)

You should check out "Take Hold of the Flame" live in Tokyo 1984. Geoff Tate is classically trained and hits E5's multiple times in this performance. It's a lot more Rock than this song.

Their album Operation Mind Crime needs to be listened in it's entirety start to end of the record. Rock opera like.

They were Pink Floyd and Rush fans, so they blended that influence and some others with a British Heavy Metal (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden) root. The results were very diverse and excellent: Take Hold of the Flame, The Needle Lies, I Will Remember, Walk in the Shadows, Road to Madness...

Also... Am I the only one who's always thought that this video was inspired by Shel Silverstein's "Winken, Blinken and Nod" from "Where the Sidewalk Ends?"

As a fellow Shakespearean, I must recommend queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime - the whole opera. Catch some of the live performance, too if you can. Very theatrical, very Shakespearean in dynamic, but utterly heavy rock as well.

Great reaction and review... I do hear that resemblance to "Comfortably Numb"... You should check out the song "Ice" by Camel, the live version ( Camel - Ice (Live) has a lot of keyboard and a dramatic guitar solo!. Greetings from Argentina!

The first time hearing Silent Lucidity, I immediately went to the likeness of Pink Floyd. Interestingly, Michael Kamen (incredible composer) worked on this and Comfortably Numb. Both of these songs are my favorite.

For a real Queensryche experience you should listen the the entire Operation: Mindcrime album and also Take Hold of the Flame, their album Empire is good too, actually, almost of their stuff was good

The band Nightwish gives you all the elements. Rock, Folk, Celtic. All with a symphonic vibe. Also quite theatrical. You should check out the song Ghost Love Score Live at Whacken. Guaranteed you'll be blown away by the performance.

Such a beautiful song. When I first heard this, on Sirius, I though it was Pink Floyd song that I never heard before. It quickly became a top 5 song!!! The rest of their music is much heavier!

In another twist you should listen to an acapella group called Home Free. Start with Man Of Constant Sorrow, Folsom Prison Blues then Mayday (so much more after that as well).

LoL. Me too. I didn't hear this band well after they had been out. Catholic family. SO parents scared us away from this. Iron Maiden is good. Heavier a bit then this. Hallowed be they name is a nice start. Starts easy and slow.then picks up. You may like the lyrics. But he is a great singer. Bruce Dickenson.

This is my wife's favourite Queensryche song. It's nice and I like it too, but I prefer their more rockin' songs. Actually, i mentioned the Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Rob Halford concert that my wife and I went to in the comments to one of your Iron Maiden reactions. At that show, they didn't do this song...they said "This is a metal concert, so we won't be doing Silent Lucidity". My wife was so pissed off haha! Please check out Queen Of The Reich from their first EP...it's kicks ass! Cheers!

I've seen articles that state that Geoff Tate admits that pink floyd influenced the band and others that states that he denies pink floyd influenced them. Don't know what the truth is but I think pink floyd could of written the song.
