@@jacobg130productions I'm not saying they're not good, but I think it definitely depends on the application. For repeated hits, mucho good, but on thiccy jumps, I don't think it beats the progression of an air spring.

A while back I got my hands on 2 frames from an ex-downhill racer... Norco A-line and Team DH. The ride is truly smooth, basically like riding on a couch until you come up to bigger jumps or really sharp elbow turns. Nonetheless, amazing bikes even with the state of the art suspension from that year (2009).

I can say I’m completely hooked , I literally cannot stop thinking about that day at windrock and what I can do to ride more DH . Glad to see you using proper seals for the monster, i have the same fork in need of a rebuild and i’m experiencing them being too soft also. I’m pretty sure each fork leg takes around 500ml of oil though. That should help the ramp up as they should get more progressive through the travel with more oil.. other than that just changing oil weight is all you can do. Maybe try more oil first.

More oil in the fork will help prevent bottoming out. Thicker oil will help compression dampening too
@sjaan73703 жыл бұрын
Yup, add a cap full per side, ride and repeat until you're not bottoming out and only using all your travel on the biggest of hits/compressions. Too much will start to reduce travel. 7wt in the winter and 10-15wt in the summer. You shouldn't have to crank your compression and yeah, sick riding!

Reminds me of my main bike; 2006 Maverick ML8 with 2010 RockShox Totem DH Solo Air. Everything else is 2017+ or newer though. I originally got the frame/fork from a retiring coworker as gift and decided to make it my first build! Previously I had bought a preassembled fatbike and that was all I had. I changed out a few parts here and there but never had built a bike up from the ground up. It was a great experience. I think a lot of people overestimate the MTB frame and Fork improvements over the years. Maybe its because 2014 is when I got back into MTB, but it feels like around 2016 there was a massive shift in marketing where every single company started over-hyping their new models. Several companies started marketing their new models like they were somehow decades more advanced than the previous models. Due to that overhyped marking crap, it seems like many people believe any bike older than 5 years is some how so old and antiquated that it cant possible be ridden on trails anymore.

My regular DH bike is a Rocky Mtn Flat Line Pro 2012, I really love it and can do anything on it my friends do on their newer bikes. I upgraded a lot on it, bars, forks and a single chainring, cassette and it's a blast to ride it, definitely feels smaller even though it's the same size frame as my newer one but I get compliments at the parks as it's an older bike that still looks great. @@BMOutdoorz Wow. Where to start. I have a Rift Zone 1 29er. Excellent value for a first foray into modern geometry full suspension...but for some reason my 29er was about $200 LESS than my GFs 27.5! Anyway, this bike is all bout the geometry for me. I rented a Trek Rail 7 in Bentonville and fell head over heels in love with it. The Rift Zone 29er was super close in size and geometry to that and was at an entry level price. It LOVES most of Bentonville trails. BUT it only has 125mm rear and 130mm front travel. Big chunky stuff is not its friend. If you are accustomed to hard tail life, you'll be fine...but it does have its limitations. I've ridden many long weekends in Bentonville casing all kinds of stuff learning to hit bigger and bigger jumps and even spent 2 weeks in Park City UT riding a couple days of park there. It made it through the washboard on Tidal Wave, but it was harsh. The bike survived but I had to nut and bolt everything afterward. I've had the bike about 8 months and have ridden it hard. Nothing has failed. Would recommend to a friend!

All those open bath marzocchi forks you control your end stroke with oil height, if your still bottoming out too easily, try adding another 5-10ml of oil to each leg, be careful you can overdo this and then it just bottoms out on the oil itself. The gap between the oil and top cap is basically a air spring so the oil height will effect the overall spring rate but it shouldn’t be used to offset a too soft spring. It is typically though how you reduce bottoming on this type of fork damping system. Your rebound on the shock and fork seem a little fast, I realise that’s personal preference but too fast can cause you to lose traction, especially in loose bumpy terrain and in corners as the spring is trying to return to quickly it forces the tyre out from underneath you. Get these old school marzocchis right and it’s a carpet ride like none other.
