In Catalonia the spicyness of the pepper is substituted by scratching raw garlic on the bread. And in the Balearic Islands it's substituted with sea fennel pickles. No olive oil on sandwiches,usually we get a long wood oven baked bread roll & pull out the middle then line the inside of it with prosciutto & maybe some thin slices of provolone & on rare occasions pickled eggplant or zucchini or capsicum,no tomato or boconcini that's for pizza or bruscetta. The olive oil abundance is reserved for a summer tomato salad,with onion,fresh basil,cucumber & dried oregano so you can dip your bread in the oil & tomato juices.
