Extremely educational and interesting video. I have been following your work for a long time, as well as the other explanations you provide. What I hate the most in my country is that bicycles are not made in the best possible way, so most people are forced to buy or assemble a bicycle for themselves at their own discretion. I really enjoy your presentation. Many greetings from Serbia (ex Yugoslavia), Balkans - Europe. B.Damir

I have a Schwinn hybrid bike that has 28 inch rims. I plan to totally overhaul it and use all of my spare parts to make it my winter bike. I'm going to get rid of the 28 inch commuter/hybrid skinny rims and replace them with 27.5 rims. Initially I wasn't so sure about this but then just like you did I realized with the smaller rims I can add bigger tires which is a definite plus because I need the biggest tires I can fit on there for when I'm riding in snow. It's funny, all the spare parts I have are from my current bike after I upgraded to better components. After all the upgrades I have all the parts to be able to completely tear down the Schwinn to just it's frame and use all my spare parts to rebuild it up. Once it's built, it's not going to be the most attractive bike but I don't need it to be considering it's going to just get covered in slush, snow and salt in the winter.

Re: the copper paint, metallic spray paints are always way more prone to clogging up caps/nozzles. Usually fine just with a swap to a fresh cap, sometimes helps to use a "fatter" cap if you can find something compatible at your local hipster graffiti supplier.
@oldshovel Жыл бұрын
That was my first thought also so I swapped a clean cap but it appeared to be the aerosol was spent…

My Marlin 5 had a seized DS crank too. Trek and giant don't grease the square taper, its frustrating. If you can feel it's tight you can dump a full can of deodorant or co2 on the taper and freeze shrink it. Or when the tool is tight then smack the cranks or tool with a hammer to shock it off as you would car ball joints

Hello, I like your work! After my old GaryFisher, I built a "workcycle" with an old RCZ 26" with 29" wheel and gravel 28" tires, 38t-10speed 11-32t, and a chineese carbon fork =>11kg. Same of the MTB, I used old pieces and new. Next step: unbuild it and paint the frame. I need time...thanks you

Too bad the copper paint failed. I love this color and mixing it with red and black would definitely give a killer paintjob, but the good old red-black mix never fails and it's the fastest 👌 I was surprised you opted for the radial lacing in a mtb bike.

The bike looks soo good! Quick question, if you don't mind: It looks you applied the first layer of CC, wet sanded with 1500, and then applied a final coat? My son and I are about to take on a very similar paint job project using the 2k CC and just I wanted to try to gather as much knowledge as possible. Thanks!
@oldshovel Жыл бұрын
Yes I sanded it to smooth the bums from the under layer after 2 coats and then did a light 3rd coat but I know its meant to continue to higher grits and then polish also. I didn’t polish. 😁
@brianemunroe Жыл бұрын
@@oldshovel Haha, it is certainly a learning process. I'll totally take some time to polish it at then end. Thanks again!
@Nicoya Жыл бұрын
The radial lacing on the front wheel seemed weird to me, I almost thought you might be building it up as a DJ with no front brakes or something, since I didn't see any rim brake track on the rims. I'm glad you switched it out for a normal cross lacing, it definitely would not have lasted as a radial.
@oldshovel Жыл бұрын
Yah I thought it may have been ok until I attached the disc and it was flexing the spokes with just the 6nm
