I have come to find out that you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT USE AFTER MARKET PARTS ON AN OLDSMOBILE INTRIGUE GLS MODEL 3.5l V^ with a north-star Cadillac engine in it ........USE DEALER PARTS ONLY!........Why?.......This Video will explain.

Pretty good video, I just bought a 2000 Intrigue with 88K on it. The reason they sold it was, it was running hot. I changed the water pump, thermostat and flushed the coolant. Still it ran hot when I drove it, when it was idling it, it dropped in temp, only when I ran it above 2K it started to climb. Checked the fans and they came on at the right temp. I was getting frustrated that I couldn't figure it out. Ran it through several heat cycles and made sure all the air was out of it. Then I thought about checking the radiator, mainly because it stayed cool when idling and only when it was being driven it got hot, which normally it should be the other way around, the more air, the cooler it should be. Anyway, I pulled out the old inspection camera and put it down between the AC condenser and Radiator and found the reason is was running hot under a load. The radiator was being blocked by debris. Normally, if you look straight down the radiator to inspect it, it may not look clogged, but when you run a light behind it you will see the radiator fins filled with dirt. Anyway, I flushed it out with water and then road tested it and that was what was happening, ran cool after doing an external flush. The way the Intrigue gets the air is from the front of the car, no pass though grille, so it picks up a ton of dirt, leaves, dust, grass, paper, etc.

Matt, when my water pump went out. I had the dealership do the service. No problems. I do know my temperature gauge will almost go to half way when I am sitting in traffic. But it does not overheat. I also get regular coolant flushes. This engine runs great for me. My mother bought this car brand new. It was well maintained. I like this car. Great video!

OMG. Just picked up my 2000 Oldsmobile intrique , 90 000 km, from the repair shop: Had some tiny leaks. Miniscule leaks, but my husband is so fussy.) The pressure test suggested new water pump. After installation it overheated. Never overheated before. Could not bleed it fully. Installed new thermostat. Still overheats. Suggesting head gasket. But can not get one. Was told "car is too old!"?

My son is having just the opposite problem with his 99 olds intrigue gls. When sitting and idling it runs fine. Even runs ok with it sitting at idle up to 2k rpm sitting in the garage. It's when he's driving it, it gets hot. GRRR. I'm getting so tired of spending countless hours on trying to diagnose issues with these newer vehicles. I'll take an older vehicle over this new garbage any day. And now I see that the parts are no longer available? Thanks for the video. I think I'm just going to pull his thermostat and let it flow freely or try to find something that's aftermarket.

Clean the fins of the radiator and A/C condenser and take off that stupid cover on top of the engine and watch the temp go down. Why they took out the front grill I will never understand. Not enough air goes into the front of the engine to cool it down. The air coming in from under the front makes it a giant vacuum cleaner, sucking up tons of stuff while driving. I am planning to remove the cowling in front of the radiator and add some more window screen to keep the junk out of the radiator. The 3.5 engines are garbage, hastily made and not thought out before throwing them in as a replacement for the 3.8. The 3.8 is still one of the best engines built by GM.

I have 2002 Intrigue, 3.5L engine. Perhaps AC Delco thermostat is specially designed for this 3.5L Shortstar engine. I couldn't find it. last year i bought MOTORAD 464180 {#19137284, 56480} OE Standard; 180F thermostat for this engine (I am not very sure if this thermostat is really good for 3.5L engine. perhaps good for 3.8L one which is Northstar engine.). I was not driving my car long time, because I replaced head gaskets, Power steering pressure hose new front and rear brake pads, new discs, new ball joints, new front struts, new water pump, new belt, new crankshaft sensor (AC Delco) Note: I bought Dorman brand but it didn't work, when I replaced AC Delco instanly worked, new control arms, new tie rod ends, new water tank. I did all these jobs myself. I sterted to drive it on 17 Oct 2019. Cooling system was showing as normal just under of middle mark/ white line in instr panel. After few km driving, it started to be stupid. Water tank has bubbles, plus throwing out coolant water when I park somwhere, plus yesterday it show very hot level hit red mark after only 30 min driving. My car was not running proper speed it reduced speed even I accelerate it. when i looked at instr panel, I noticed that water temperature hit at very hot red mark. Instantly I stopped somewhere on the road and I shutdown my engine. I waited about 30 min it get cool. I add new distilled water (I had inside car), then I qickly went to my home. I was lucky it happened near my home. Regarding water pump it is not AC Delco but brand new. I don't think so problem is water pump. In my view they sold to me 3.8L or 4.0L engine thermostat instead 3.5L. I scare to drive far distance, such as on Hwy. Now, what to do? How about radiator? It is original one. Do you think it is clugged inside thin holes with calcium and water not passing good enough? Or something else? i am second owner. When I removed thermostat housing, I saw a small and short size thermostat. I am still keeping it at home. Perhaps, someone first owner or some mechanic replaced this small size thermostat before. My purchase of thermostat is Motorad brand and Made in Germany MOTORAD 464180 {#19137284, 56480} OE Standard; 180F . I paid $45 CAD plus tax. from Part Source store, a side company of Canadian Tire. Note: My heater works good. I always feel good hot air. So, no problem with heater. There is no signs of a head gasket leak or anything. It blows no smoke, there is no water splurting out and there and no signs of water in the oil. The motor shows no signs of over heating. No white smoke out from muffler.

I have given up on my 4.0 aurora {for now) it's a 'rescue'.. If I jump on it at ANY speed, it will immediately start to overheat but it seems like it actually blows it's coolant out. I see they run an exhaust tube into the rear of the crossover manifold right behind what seems to be an egr on driver side. there's a small gasket in there that was leaking coolant exteriorly when I bought the car, which I replaced. A LOT of work to change such a small and cheap gasket. My question is are they using that area to cool the exhaust gases before introducing them to the engine? There seems to be no obvious symptoms of head gasket issues. I have searched egr cooling and the only info that keeps coming up is for Duramax engines.

I had the opposite for myself, when I'm on the eway and have it around 100 mph at 3000 rpms it will sometimes bring the temp up just before it overheats. It has overheated 2, this is after about an hour of it being at 3000 rpms at 100mph. I have to bring it down to 2500 rpm and it usually keeps me from overheating. It has a new water pump, radiator, and thermostat. Can anyone offer some type of reason it's causing that please. Any info will be appreciated, btw I bought the car with 87,000 miles because it was in a fender bender my neighbor gave me a great price. I bought the headlight, pulled the fender out a little and drive it as is. Same model gls. It is a good car and it is sharp just without the spoiler in the back. I've done a few other things to the suspension and front end with rack and power steering pump. I have invested a decent amount of cash into and don't want to blow the gaskets or anything so if some can please give me any advice I would really appreciate it.

Is the 2004 alero the same engine. I’ve noticed the same thing I sit idle I overheat n when I give in gas n start going I cool off. I just went n replaced both hoses cuz they looked like they were leaking. Well I was having problem with overheating the car is used so I’m not sure if the water pump has previously been replaced but it definitely is making a noise it’s coming from the water pump n leaking underneath that spot on the ground I can’t actually see the leak but it’s coming out pretty good. So before I go buy my pump from oreillys my buddy works there do u think maybe I should look into this Cadillac engine first since I’m having the idling problem.? I thought that was odd myself sitting n overheating vs driving n going to normal.
