Ole was right. There wasn't a National Wrestling Alliance anymore when Flair took the title to the WWF.
@NoneofYabiz-rx3zi Жыл бұрын
He's wrong though. Just because all the other territories went out of business doesn't mean NWA ceased to exist. It just became synonymous with WCW at that point. The NWA world heavyweight championship was up until that point the main title in WCW. So to answer Ole's questions... WCW gave a shit
@NoneofYabiz-rx3zi Жыл бұрын
@RickFlanagan nope, separate entities
@NoneofYabiz-rx3zi Жыл бұрын
@RickFlanagan NWA was an alliance and governing body consisting of various members, i.e. wrestling promotions. JCP, which was a part of NWA, became WCW after Turner bought them. WCW didn't have their own world champion til 91. The WCW world champion was represented by the big gold belt that was simultaneously used for the NWA world champion. At that point it didn't matter because WCW was basically the last big NWA member left after the rest had gone out of business. When Flair returned in 93, they used to big gold belt as the NWA championship and the new one from 91 as the WCW championship. Finally after Rude beat Flair in 93 and won the NWA championship, WCW severed ties with the NWA because the NWA didn't want Rude as their champion. Like I said, 2 separate entities, broski.
@NoneofYabiz-rx3zi Жыл бұрын
@RickFlanagan 😂 you're an ignorant 🤡
@danpoutsma1351 Жыл бұрын
@@NoneofYabiz-rx3zi Yep. The NWA still technically existed, even if it was basically in name only, even though most of the old territories were gone with the exception of maybe a couple (Don Owen's promotion being one of those that WAS still in business in 1991, so Ole was incorrect there too). WCW was still a member, but eventually they stopped emphasizing the NWA and began labeling everything with the WCW name because 1) it was basically dead and 2) they didn't want to deal with the old time territory promoters like Owen, Steve Rickard in New Zealand, and others who were also members with a legal claim to the NWA name haggling with them over who should be champion or him being made available to work shows outside of Turner's company. That's ultimately what caused them to break away in 1993 over the Flair vs. Rude match. Because it was for the "NWA " title, the other members wanted a say and dates on the champion. But to answer the question "Who Gave A &%$#?" when Flair left with the belt. The answer is a whole lot of people.

I figured out what Ole Anderson was getting at immediately. By that point, the N.W.A. was pretty much dead. The NWA was a group of promoters, not one organization. After Jim Herd fired Flair and stripped him of the WCW Title, the NWA announced that the NWA Board was going to continue to recognize him as the NWA champion and their attorney Bob Trobich acknowledged that WCW was a NWA member . They didn't bring the NWA name out of mothballs again until 1992 when Kip Frey took over from Herd and they needed help from the NWA to legally regain possession of the big gold from Flair because it was still recognized as the NWA championship belt.

This "interviewer" is very clueless and has no idea of what he's talking about or TRYING to ask. Ole wasn't being "explosive", it was actually his way of trying to joke around, a bit, even though this guy clearly knows very little about the business.
