I'm half Ukrainian, from everyone on my mother's side of the family, but I was born and raised in England, so I only know very few words. my great-grandmother doesn't speak any english and considering she might not have long left to live I've decided to learn as much Ukrainian as I can. Thank-you for this really informative lesson, it has really helped me!

I am half Ukrainian and had Saturday lessons many years ago as a child. My dad was raised by immigrants and grew up speaking the language but we never spoke it or practiced at home. I don't remember much from the lessons but I was surprised at how easily the words came out of my mouth as I tried to pronounce this. So grateful for my earlier exposure and for the internet making this knowledge available to me now.

Ukranian was spoken in our house when I was growing up by grandmother; emigrated from the Russian controlled part of Austria before WWII. I only recognize about half of the phrases however. We had both Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox churches in our community, Lyndora, PA. and they still exist. Sympathy for the Ukranian people is high and getting higher all the time...Thanks Olga!

Many years ago I worked with several Ukrainian ladies , along with some people from Poland too.....I always loved working with them but I was too nervous to speak their languages, or at least try to speak it :-) I had a few of the ladies trying to coax me into speaking it.....Ukrainian is such a beautiful sounding language....but my mouth and brain are not usually best of friends when trying to learn a language :-) My best wishes not just to the good people of Ukraine but to the good people in Russia and all other countries around the world too.....sometimes the bad that we humans do can drown out and overshadow the good we do. 🙏

Thank you. Practicing again. My parent moved to USA many years ago and sadly I have been forgetting. My grandparents spoke a rather mixed combination of Ukrainian (Grandmother) and Belarusian (Grandfather) with bits of Polish somehow, made it more confusing to others. Lol So I appreciate the lessons!

Same (almost) here...both my grandparents were born in Ukraine, Both spoke a mixture of Ukrainian, Russian and Polish. The countries are pretty close geographically. although~Holubsti, Golubsti and Guampkis are cabbage rolls...the Polish word is much different sounding. M'mm, now I'm hungry (Not Hungary).

@@Olga_Reznikova hwhat??? As a person who was raised in a countryside of Russia I can say: you can easily learn 90% of Ukrainian by just living in a rural area of Russia. That's actually the reason why most Russians find Ukrainian language funny: for us it's more like a dialect of Russian spoken by farmers.
