OLight i1R2 vs. i1R2 Pro (you might be surprised!)

Comparison video between the Olight i1R2 eos and the brand new i1R2 Pro eos. which one would you prefer?!

I went for the pro for $5 more. I couldn't care about the brightness but the longer battery life will be better for my use, and I love the USB Type-C.

I’m with you 100% on those points. Unfortunately for me I have two other small items on my keychain so the size difference made the older model the better physical fit for me. But damn I wish it had that battery life and usb-c charging.

I got one as a part of the free deal for the BF sale. It is substantially bigger. A bit brighter and much longer lasting, but you're right that those aren't really important in a key chain flashlight. It's about halfway in length between the i1R2 and the i3E. And even though the i3EE is a great little light, the i2R2 being so much smaller is the reason it lives on my key chain. The i1R2 Pro will not be supplanting the i1R2 from my key chain. I will keep the smaller light. Not to say the new one is a bad light -- I just don't think it's a change in the right direction, making it bigger.

I was considering a upgrade. But after watching this video, I think I’m going to stick to my original I1R2. I agree the smaller size is more desirable for a keychain light. Thanks for the review!

Great quick comparison. I totally agree. I really wish they would have just moved to usb-c on the original and left it the same size. Waiting on mine to arrive but I’ll be sticking with the i1r2 on my keys.

Thanks for the great video. I was pretty conflicted when trying to decide which one to buy. Ultimately you echoed every single thought I had and I’m now certain the older model is the way to go. You said it, this isn’t meant for long run, high lumen output its meant to blink on and off a handful of times randomly and then charge it every month or so to keep it at the ready. While I regret missing out on the battery life and usb-c charging it’s just not worth the pocket space.

That’s great you have answered my question in one other than it makes life easier because it’s USB-C for charging the brightness is not much brighter but it did look bigger so I agree the original will work better on key rings

I agree with you on the Pro being a bit too large for a keychain light. But I'm getting two as freebies (one is orange!) I EDC carry my i1r2 on a 2.25" Alu. carabiner, belt looped. So I'll just switch over to the Pro and replace the lame li'l X9R Cell jobbie on my keys they gifted me, with the i1R2. ~ I found the i1R2 so handy on my belt loop, I bought 7 of them and passed out as palship gifts. ~ lol, along with 2.25" carabiners I finally found online where I didn't have to buy 50 of them as minimum. ~ Just recharge every few months vs a battery purchase is awesome. Double the runtime 12 HOURS for the 5 lumens is a huge difference. I just ordered the pro on Amazon for $21.95 and it will be here on Friday July 1st 2022 and I'm looking forward to it. Great comparison video and thanks for posting it.

You have a good point that if you want stamina and a lot of light you probably use a normal flashlight... so i'd also prefer the smaller older one in that aspect but the micro usb is a big deal breaker for me... needs to be usb a or c or the magnetic olight base charging

Thanks for the great review. I am ordering the Pro mainly because of the USB-C. I'm not thrilled about the extra size, but at the same time it's certainly not a deal breaker. I just really hate Micro-USB ports. Fumbling with those things in the dark (or without my glasses) is a pain in the ass. The extra run time on the Pro is another nice upgrade. There's always trade-offs with any kind of "upgrade" it seems, but in this case I think it's definitely worth it.

Mine were shipped today, so should have them in a couple days now. Looking forward to testing for myself. I like the added length on the pro, i dont use it as a keychain light, and find its a little small, so the extra size to me seemed worth it. But the test will be in use.

Hey David. I carry my i1R2 on a small Alu carabiner, belt loop. (I got two freebie Pros on the way too) It makes it easier to hold to use and not drop. Still small/light enough to put in mouth when needed.

Usb c alone is enough for me to get the new one unfortunately. I like the smaller size and could care less about the extra brightness. But the port is so much better

it's an easy pick for me, USBC, would be the Win, then the gravy is the run time. You may not need that long of run time, but you never know who an accident will happen. A wreck on a slippery road, in a ditch... Even if like me you carry a higher powered EDC light, it will Likely have even less run time ...Great for camping on the 5 Lumen....Easily all night, for a couple of nights without a charge. Size in this case, LOL, is not an issue to me...basically 1/4" in length, and less in diameter, is still smaller then my little 74MM SAK on my keychain, and significantly lighter then the knife. If you already have the standard version, it probably is not a big deal, but someone getting one of these for the first time, just the USBC is for the win. Once you get a little older like myself, and it gets harder to see those little charging ports, it's PITA sometimes. Having the C is just, well, plug it in no fuss, Even in the DARK. Just ordered the Pro, obviously, lol...It should pair well with my Baton III Premium..

The i1R EOS was smaller and has a warmer tint. Although the i1R 2 EOS has a brighter beam, I am not sure it is that much of an advantage, or any advantage, as the beam of the 2 is cooler and more diffuse. Mostly an advertising advantage. The main advantage to the 2 model is that the head is attached which keeps it from getting lost. This is important for something like a keychain light where it might get carried a lot, twisted, turned, and banged, without necessarily being used a lot. The Pro again has bumped up the size and brightness. The main advantage to the Pro is that it is USB C...and that long 5 lumen runtime. I will no longer buy anything new that uses micro USB, if I can help it. That has made it easier to resist certain products and save money. ;-) I figure if at this point a new product is still using micro USB, it is either too antiquated to be worthy of consideration or poor decisions were made in its design. That does not rule out using products I already have though, such as the i1R EOS. :-) By the way, does anyone know what, if anything, EOS stands for? Thanks for the video Trey

Or 70 mins for the i3e at 90 lumens with a replaceable battery. The size of the OG i3 is skinny and less length than a key, so it sits in my pocket because I have much better light for a longer period of time. Sure you can use the 5 lumen, but thats just not bright enough and might as well use your phone. 15mins of runtime being actually bright is just too little in an emergency.

Type C is a big deal in my opinion... plus longer battery life means if in a pinch and my only light I can still feel a little more confident in the bigger battery

I think the USB C and the battery life of the Pro makes it the winner. Size is not an issue for me, and i now have 3 flashlights on my keychain, as well as an emergency whistle, and a small EDC knife, LOL! 3 flashlights give me a good range of lumens (1, 5, 30, 90 150, and 180), and good battery life..!
