Olight M1X Striker 1000 Lumen LED Flashlight Extended Review

I got my Olight M1X Stricker from a distributor here in the Philippines. I am impressed with the quality, specially the strike bezel. I love the fact that it comes with two switches, one at the rear and the other near the bezel. The output is fine, on burst I'd say the Nitecore P12 gives out a little more. After a month of very minimal use I notice a crack on the selector switch near the bezel. It appears to be made out of glass or acrylic which disappointed me a little since I reckon that the unit is supposed to take a beating due to the bezel. I contacted the distributor and am still waiting for their reply. I wish they come out with a model that tail stands and aluminum forward switch. Other than those erks I'm satisfied with it.

I had a M1x striker, but after years of use, the lateral switch is broken. I have also a Warrior X, a Warrior X pro, and a seeker 2. But I bought a new M1x. I find its the best combinaison of weight, feel, size, and modes. The throw is enough, and it never over heat. And the size is very small compared to the new Warrior X. Very very good light. I bought the first one after this review. Your review was the best Marshall. RIP and thank you for your passion, very communicative !

I wish it were about an inch shorter. Hoping Olight's next series includes something like the S2R with the strike bezel. This one is a little too big for EDC, imo, but I don't see why the S2R couldn't have the teeth and tail switch.

+Colin Barnes lol, my friend lost my PD35 in Costa Rica. Upgraded to a MH12, but after a year the head is starting to act up. About to buy a M1X. Too bad it doesn't have USB charging.

Great review! Just got mine about a week ago and thanks to your video I now know how to get to 0.5 lumens (I probably should read the manual first). Anyway, I'm surprised about the detail and build quality of the M1X: just a few hours ago the internal parts of the rear switch came loose (probably a factory worker didn't tighten it enough) and fell out (onto the table and the floor)... and it had two tiny metal balls in it held in position by gold-plated springs (which I presume are the contact points at the rim of the body)! P.S. I had to look for the one of the metal balls AND one of the small gold-plated springs on the floor to be able to put the switch back together properly.

So in other words, after the 5 minutes on turbo are up, you can't cycle back up to 1000 lumens, it'll be at 55% (550lumens)? No regulated output?

Is the brightness/lumens of the M1X the same using 2 cr123a's vs. an 18650? just curious since the voltage or the two cr's would be quite a bit higher.

Hi Thanks for yor answer ......they dont make the 18 striker any more ? But i have seen it on the olight web site ? is there a big difference in price between the M1X and the M18 ? ........ so the M1X is the upgrade but i only see that it has 200 lumens more and the button on the side. ............ I contacted the distributor here in France and they said they didnt carry the M1X , but had the M18 striker i guess they want to get rid of old stock just dont like the idea I am buying an obsolete model

I really like this interface and use for self defense. I just wish that crenelated bezel wasn't so aggressive. Might scare off people in public when it sticks out of my pocket. Thinking to give this as a gift to a first time flashlight guy and this may be too much for him. It's either this or the Nitecore P10.

Question: This is my first ever light where I am to use an 18650 battery. When purchasing an 18650 cell, does it necessarily matter if they are rated at a higher/lower amperage? I understand the mAh and voltage, but still bit confused on the different Amp ratings. I'm just trying to find the highest quality cell, no matter the price. I'm currently looking at Samsung and Panasonic cells. In advance, thanks for your time!

I wasn't a fan of the M18 since its UI was so exclusively defense-oriented, it didn't fit much of my uses. This M1X, on the other hand, keeps the defensive potential while being 600% more versatile. I feel comfortable with the idea of having this torch as my primary EDC; the M18 would at best be a backup, ready to be pulled out of its quick-access slot but very little else beyond that. Plus, the crenellations make it look really neat ;-)
