I can't remember the last time I actually sat and watched a video this long from start to end. This was really good. Devil's advocate...I think the O'light did okay considering the level of the tests and that probably 98% of the people who buy these, their lights will never see even a fraction of this abuse. That mount definitely needs work though. That was pretty cool of them to send both products too.

I bought the Odin Mini for my rifle. It's lightweight, affordable and relatively powerful. I understand why people would prefer something modular, upgradable, and more powerful like Surefire, Streamlight, or Cloud Defense. For me, I wanted to save weight on the rifle and strain on my wallet. The Olight does what I need it to. I really like the quick disconnect because I just bought a couple of spare mounts

I bought a Olight a couple of years ago. I did not abuse it at all, but the tail cap button started to give me trouble after about 5 to 6 months of use. Then it quit charging with the magnetic charger. I continued trying to use it with cr123a, but it stopped working all together. So I decided to get a Surefire light (edcl1-t). I have had this light for years, in my pocket everyday with out fail. So recently I bought some Streamlight flashlights, l like them to, but the Surefire is by far my favorite light. Excellent torture test. Pretty amazing what both these lights can handle. I'm an olight guy, own a fair share and haven't had any issues light/output wise with normal use whether it be the edc lights or weapon lights. With that said, your test really shows where olight needs to step up their game and beef up some components. The mount on the original Odin was garbage as well. Mine has lots of play when mounted on rail. Ended up getting an arisaka scout mount for it and it works great. That streamlight hlx is a beast for sure. I may have to pick one up for my main rifle and use the odin on one of my others.

A quick question. What is the difference in beam concentration ie useable distance. I have a White Oak Amarment Varmint 20” upper. This gun has very little recoil. It is not a run and gun setup. I need to scan for Coyotes eyes. The gun can run thermal for hogs. The front end gets heavy with a Harris Bipod. What is the useable distance of the beams? I slug this rig around and is usually shot prone or from an improvised position. I also carry an external USB power brick. I like the recharging ease of the mini. I have read there are scout mount options for the mini that replace the base. I avoided the 2000 Lumen version of the Oden because of space and weight constraints.

I have a Stream Light and a Ghost light and they are both excellent lights but they cost a considerable amount more. Streamlight has options at or below the cost of many popular O-lights. Protac hlx comes to mind ($80) and with a $20 mount, you are good to go. If you want to be extra *tacti-cool,* you could get the streamlight protac hlx railmount which comes with mounts AND a pressure switch, cable management, and a mount for the pressure pad. All good under $120. Can't go wrong with that!!

So I'm totally an Olight guy and have had nothing but wonderful results with them. I have the full size Odin and love it, I paid for it with my own money so I'm not going to purposely beat the crap out of it like you did in this video 😂 I plan on doing reviews for them if they're willing to have me when my channel is large enough. I've spent a crap ton of money with them over the last few years. This torture test and video were super well done as I knew they would be! I've been looking forward to this video all day and it most certainly didn't disappoint 👍 I think both flashlights performed amazingly well, and that's most certainly more abuse than 99.9% of these torches will ever occur in the real world. The Olight screws should definitely be more beefy though as these tests showed that as a weakness. The Odin Mini is rated IPX8 which to my understanding is 1 meter or deeper but I didn't find anywhere where it said exactly how deep. I've started working up a review of my Odin, not sure when I'll have it done but was blasting steel with it out at 200 yards using only the flashlight in the pitch black which was rather fun. Hopefully you had them send one of their new Warrior Mini's that they'll have for the upcoming flash sale 😍 I'm going to have to scrounge up some money to try and get one, Xmas time and finances are tight. This is the best test on the Odin Mini vs HLX that I've seen. I don't feel super bad about getting the Odin Mini since the package does come with a lot during its Black Friday sale. But I wouldn't mind seeing the price of the next version go up if Olight made improvements to the Surefire Scout footprint, maybe being milled aluminum instead of cast, and a much better water seal on the end cap. That being said, maybe my next light should be a Streamlight, Surefire, or Modlite if I save up a bit. Thanks for doing this level of testing. I think Olight should take notes from your findings for their next improvements.

Streamlight makes amazing flashlights. That being said, if it isn't going to be your "SHTF/Zombie Apocalypse/Bug Out" light the Olight works just fine. My biggest thing is batteries being readily available. If any collapse were to happen you can recharge that Olight in your vehicle (or w/ your solar power bank) but CR123s aren't easy to find; and they'll be even harder to find in said make-belief situation. Have a few of both of these flashlights, seems like for a edc light olight makes a better light, weapon light 100% that mount is a disaster, first thing I was thinking when I received my odin full size. Secondly something that seemed to be brushed over which is really important is the garbage heat exchangers olight uses. 6 minutes on high compared to stream light being over a hour makes a HUGE difference. The olight after 30 seconds gets burning hot on high. The mini might be 1250 lumens but for almost no time at all, the streamlight can keep 1000 lumens for significantly longer. This was definitely the best flashlight test I’ve watched on KZbin to date tho, subbed.
@jeerrrrrrryyyyy4 жыл бұрын
Good points you bring up. I went over those ratings quickly so the video would be shorter. It ended up being 33 minutes and that seemed almost too long for a flashlight video to me. Thank you very much for the support, I really appreciate it, and I’m glad that you liked the video.

I can attest that Streamlight does not stay at high output for an hour. Streamlight publishes run times meaning time left running until it’s dead. Olight publishes its step down graph. Streamlight also steps down rather quickly in my own experience. Olight is a little more transparent in this way.
@Nick-sx6jm3 жыл бұрын
You also have to realize that the olights head is like half the size of the streamlight and is putting out more power. Even though they claim 1250 they usually underestimate the output of their lights. Like I have a M2R warrior pro and they claim 1800 lumens, but people have tested it at around 2000-2100. Streamlight also steps down in power btw they just dont tell you by how much and after how long.

I just did the exact same class with a friend with an odin mini. First day with the barricade shooting, the mount came loose, re torked the screws. Night shooting the pressure pad started acting wierd, momentary would turn the light on and I couldn't turn it off, then it stopped working at all. Next day the tail cap stripped, then the mount grenaded, lost the spring and screw. Both my screws stripped the screw holes. So in my opinion, the olight is junk.

there’s a good possibility that the olight may have died at the end, i have an olight on my pistol and it was replicating a lot of the same functions when it was about dead. for instance the fact it wouldn’t stay on for very long right before it went out and he also mentioned the vibrating at the end

Currently run streamlights on all my guns and have been very impressed with all the ones I own. Mine don’t take a ton of abuse but i do have one on my AR pistol that takes a lot of gas/ carbon from the muzzle brake and it still runs great, the glass is a little charred but that just adds character lol

A thin layer of synthetic clear grease that can be wiped off when the light is needed will cure the charring, but yes it certainly does add character too!

Olight wants a piece of the pie when it comes to rifle lights, but until they give up on the convenience factors that they built their brand on I don't see them hitting a home run anytime soon. The pistol lights are nice if you can snag one on sale, and of course their edc lights are nice (that magnet has come in handy a few times).

I am a Streamlight guy for many years. However, with the Olight water test, I'm not sure I'm convinced water got in merely due to the manufacturing design. 1.) Don't do a water test after dropping the lights 6 times each. That may have been the culprit where the end cap of the Olight hit just right to deform the seal just a fraction enough for a little water to get inside. 2.) After taking a look at each battery type, make sure the operator screws the cap on securely without pinching the o-ring. Not saying the reviewer did that, but anything is possible. I do agree the Olight mount appears less sturdy at the time of this video than the Streamlight, however, in real world applications if a person is constantly dropping their weapon all over the place they shouldn't have one in first place. I merely add these comments for a little context and to add some perspective the reviewer and others may not have considered. In closing the reviewer did one of the most in depth torture test reviews I've ever seen. Kudos!

I ended up going with the olight. They were having a sale and throwing in freebies for spending a certain amount. Got the Odin for less than $100. I like it for its features. The quick disconnect from the mount if I need to switch to sidearm and need a light is great. The magnetic tail cap with pressure switch is nice if I get it snagged the magnet will just pop off. I can attest to the durability of the Streamlight Protac. I put one on my sons build because he’s 15 and I didn’t wanna spend the money for a Scout or Modlight. He’s very rough on stuff so I almost sprang for a used Scout but thought I’d wait till he broke the Protac first and hopefully he’d gotten out of his “see how fast I can tear it up” stage and matured a bit. Him and me both have beaten the tar outta that thing and it stills runs like the day we mounted it. It has impressed the hell outta me. To the point that I put one on a 11.5” build but with an Arisaka adapter to take surefire tapes. That’s my one and only beef with the Streamlight. The tape could be better. But for $130 that I paid I’m not gonna complain. I have $150 in the Streamlight with surefire tape combo and I’m confident my son will still be using that light when I’ve long left this earth. I still put scouts on my inside guns because I just think their throw is better suited for indoors. But from now on all my outside and truck guns will get a Protac with an arisaka adapter with surefire tape switches. Best bargain in the 2A industry.

Excellent honest review. I own several Olights, Streamlights and a couple Surefires that I use on all of my AR platforms. Interesting to see how the Olight mounting system totally failed. I wonder if there is a way to beef them up post purchase. As for the Olight push button, I would say that was going to be a given failure point because I tried a pressure test on their MR2 Warrior Series in my pool at 8' for an hour and noticed the same exact issues you have shown. I think I will stick with my Streamlight for my heavy use AR15 and AR9 platforms as they are my go to SHTF guns. One small piece of advice, can the music ;)

I went with the OLight, the convenience and features on it are too good for the money not to in my opinion. One thing you didn't mention and maybe it wouldn't have made a difference but the magnetic locking tail cap that is used 99% of the time on a rifle set up with the tape switch seems like it may have helped with the water test in the end, just a thought.
@jeerrrrrrryyyyy3 жыл бұрын
Actually I did mention that in the video during the unboxing. Interesting thought, but the magnetic switch is not air or water tight. The magnet holds to the inner part “center” of the switch. The lock is a 3 ball bearing collar style lock. Unfortunately that isn’t water or air tight either.
@phlegm2141 Жыл бұрын
I think sacrificing the mount on the Odin is better than damaging the handrail in case of a drop or snag. The water test concerns me, if I were going out where the light could be submerged, I’d put some silicone on the threads of the outer cap, because that push button is a concern.

Came across your video and watched because of curiosity. I actually like the olight glm which incorporates a green laser with the light. Couple of points... You weren't simulating 100 feet. 14.7 psi per atmosphere would be 49 psi at 100 feet. With the mount breaking on the olight, it's a bad design of how the screw uses that tiny shoulder to apply pressure. It needs a better shoulder or should be threaded on both mounts. The diameter of the screws doesn't apply with how it broke. Very good products on both accounts and your tests were excellent.
@Osprey19944 жыл бұрын
Let's be honest if you are LE or Mil you aren't buying Olight for whatever you use for work. At home you need something that is easy to keep charged, produces plenty of light, and preferably doesn't cost a ton. For that reason Olight is quite nice for at home use as long as you grab them on sale. I will say that I have one of olights old baton flashlights that I have had for 3 or 4 years. It's gotten wet, it's been dropped, and it's still doing its job. I picked up another Valkyrie PL mini 2 recently during their 50% off sale partly because I wanted the 200 lumen bump and I wanted the small light that I could pop in the pen pocket on my sleeve. I bought these lights knowing what they would be used for and what I am willing to expect from them. If I needed something that could perform above and beyond that I would look elsewhere. Of course Olight wants to get into the weapon light game while also retaining their convenience factors which have been a selling point for so long. But I doubt anyone who needs a weapo light for their job is using these as they have little to no track record and they can't be hooked up to a proper tape switch. Personally for a rifle light I would say get Streamlight because their tail switch is something you can trust for the most part.
@jeerrrrrrryyyyy4 жыл бұрын
1 paragraph: yes, but then why does every YT channel reviewer that is ex or current LE/Mil say “ they are a great light”? That’s what I don’t understand at all. The funny thing is that the streamlight was cheaper than the Oden mini even with the current olight sale. If you like your olights that’s awesome and I’m honestly happy you found a light that fits your needs. These days it’s hard to find things that actually fit needs. Yes I totally agree there tape switch and the way it connects is really cheap.
