The jokes in this movie are waaay smarter and subtle than they have any right to be. The first time I understood that olive's gift in the mail truck was from Deus Ex Machina, I nearly choked on laughter. Also the reason there's no Rudolph in this movie (and most Santa movies, actually) is because the Rudolph character is still copyright protected, and wont enter the public domain until 2034. The more you know~

I just rewatched this on KZbin the other day 😂 "I'm a victim of oppressive corporate bureaucracy" is my new life moto Also, about homer Simpson voicing the postman, I actually was able to tell right away cause he sounded like the robot devil from Futurama, and he's also voiced by the same guy

Trivia: An olive doll was used in a Chilean show called "31 minutos" as a character called "Joe pino"", it was a very popular show around 2003, it was a sesame street like show but the dolls were the crew of a news show with a lot of sass. Joe pino was a special case since he was very neutral to every topic and encouraged talking about ideas and understanding each other rather than letting ideologies separate people.

I can't believe Tangled ripped off 'Not so bad' a decade later with 'I had a Dream' - Justice for Olive the Other Reindeer, you may be of questionable quality and Martini may be an antisemetic stereotype, but I somehow still end up watching you every year.

ADHD CHARGED COMMENT TIME So J. Otto Seibold, the illustrator for the OTOR book, created a few music videos for the band They Might Be Giants, most notably the music video for Istanbul (Not Constantinople). Given his ties with the band, to help promote the book John Linnell and Vivian Walsh wrote a lil song to go along with the book! Sung by the oh-so-mysterious Johnny Hart (COUGH COUGH John Linnell COUGH COUGH) The disc was given out with promotional copies of the OTOR book!! While the song never got in the movie, the song is up on youtube if you wanna listen to it!! It's just called "John Linnell - Olive, The Other Reindeer." :-)

I have a vivid memory of this movie. I was six or seven, and it was the Noods era of Cartoon Network. We were a Christmas family, but my mom made latkes because my brother and I wanted to know what the Hanukkah buzz was about. I distinctly remember throwing up latkes during an ad for the Chowder Knishmas special.

I just started the video but I have to chime in on the title of the video. I was born in 1995. When I was in Kindergarten and first grade, so, like 2000-2002; Olive the Other Reindeer was THE Christmas book. It had an INSANELY meteoric popularity for all of two Christmas seasons and then just lost all cultural relevance; at least from the perspective of a secular Jewish kid in a pretty secular environment overall. To see it labeled "underrated" is wild to me because it was, if briefly, inescapable.

I'm sorry but the postman trying to sabotage Santa over not getting a trainset one year is giving me Fred Clause vibes, the villain in Fred Clause was trying his darndest to shut down Santa Clause's workshop and sabotage Fred from saving Christmas all because he didn't get a superman cape one year when he was a kid. Just petty as hell to grow up bitter like that through all these years just to go through with a plan by getting a job you hate just to get revenge over something so trivial.
