I think the TV adaptations were a bit too soft if you ask me. I think Oliver being severely reprimanded at the end of Resource and Sagacity, and Scruffy being scrapped in The RWS could really teach kids that your actions have consequences.

But in Break Van Dominic wasn't rebuilt after Douglas accidentally broke him. In the Flying Kipper Henry wasn't reprimanded by Sir Topham Hatt. Likewise James wasn't punished after his accident with the tar tankers in Dirty Objects - the Fat Controller found the incident amusing. It was also the trucks' fault Oliver crashed technically, right?

One little recently surfaced fact about Bulgy in the RWS...if you watch this one Japanese DVD that has a narration of the RWS story, you'll notice, due to the higher quality scan of the illustrations, Bulgy actually has a beard

I've especially wanted to mention that I personally had seen the episodes of Thomas and Friends that were obviously based on the stories from the book about a GWR 14xx 0-4-2 tank engine named Oliver on my fire stick! In fact, it's completely obviously clear that basically 1 of those exact same episodes is remarkably on my movie titled Thomas Gets Bumped that shows mostly season 3 episodes!

In the story Resource and Sagacity, the trucks did not keep changing order and the direction they faced as they pushed Oliver. These are two mistakes made in the adaptation. In the story version of Toad Stands By the engines tell the trucks to shut up. In the episode they just order them to be quiet which makes no sense, for in other Thomas episodes including Dirty Work and Edward's Exploit Duck had told the trucks and big engines to shut up.

I think they stopped using the term "shut up!" after S3 because they thought it's too rude for children.

Wouldn’t it have made more sense to call this book “The little western”? Because after all only the 2nd and 3rd stories are about Oliver himself. He doesn’t even appear in the first story, and does appear in the last story but wasn’t really the main character.

The Rev. W. Awdry wanted to name this book Little Western Engines but the publishers insisted on having an engine's name in the title. In the foreword to his wife, Awdry joked that if Oliver started to get conceited, he would set the publishers onto him.

Another difference is that before the ending Bulgy had to stay under the bridge until it was repaired, and he still continued to tell lies until passengers no longer wanted to travel in him which doesn't happen in the tv series.

Might be hard to do because, as TrainLover2009 has said, only two stories were adapted. I'm kind of hoping he will make one video that combines *Really Useful Engines* and *Toby, Trucks, and Trouble.* Two of the stories in the latter were combined to make the episode _Special Attraction._

It's very poetic that the only two brakevan characters (well, standard gauge ones) are connected to Douglas in some way, with the spiteful one causing so much trouble for him, and Toad becoming his trustworthy partner. Especially since Douglas' arc starts by him... killing a brakevan, and ends with him saving a brakevan's life. Douglas and Toad are a great duo.

Because the primary colour on the NWR is blue. And it was to remind them of when they were painted Caledonian blue

At least in the TV show, the twins remain black which suits them best to be different from the usual NWR colours and added and personally we like it that way so I agree.
