People dont realize how toxic the Plath family is. They truly hate Olivia and are using her as a scapegoat for all of the family’s problems

Olivia is no saint either. sure in the past they are sheltered but then they actually decided to forgive each other and move on. Olivia however chooses to create some distance at the expense of their relationship as now they have to take into account her not wanting to see Kim . which in my opinion is not a good thing either

@@forproject1666 Of course she isnt a saint but she isnt the cause of any of their problems either. In the Plaths case, they all live free and healthier lives because of Olivia. Still obviously could use more work. Olivia didnt want to deal with Kim and she has that right. She made it very clear and excused herself from things as a way not to disrupt anyone else’s relationship. When she did that she kept getting pressured to be around her anyways or tricked. Kim is toxic. Olivia is not obligated to be around Kim especially when Kim is the reason the relationship was severed. One of them has a DUI and ran over their own baby….but i digress. Even after all of that Olivia is still a scapegoat. The model son cant stop talking about and blaming Olivia for any and everything. These families are former/current IBLP in case you dont know its Christian fundamentalist. They are hiding that factor making them also appear a certain way on screen that doesnt match reality. The glimpse into that was Ethans last conversation with Olivia on camera. So many were surprised but some of us who knew the truth about their family weren’t at all. The family has issues with communication and healthy distance. A married couple should 100% take an agreed on break from what is interfering in their relationship. Notice how when they did, they were doing better. I’m a married person myself and I’ll let you know that it is not healthy to have your family or anyone other than a therapist (Ethan was against) in your relationship. The fact that that is blamed on Olivia also is insanity. The reason why they see Olivia as “bad” is not because of her moodiness and personal faults its what she represents. Change, strength as a woman, Independence, worldliness, and the ability to stand her ground.

The absolute turn around with my opinion of the Plath kids is sad. Micah and Moriah are spoiled and entitled brats. Ethan has no realistic view of the world due to his upbringing. It was very hard to watch him dehumanize Olivia for just being a normal person. Olivia is living in the now and it’s obvious she needed someone who was equally adventurous and outgoing and willing to grow as people. The whole Plath family seems like they have no idea how to do that. They can’t fathom that. even to the communication with other people i feel like their family failed them. Especially since we know they weren’t allowed to interact outside their circle. It’s sad. I stand with Olivia~

I really like your break downs of the episodes, it gives am interesting dialogue. I have watched this show since the first season and have had some thoughts. First, I do believe Olivia has experience a great deal of trauma in her childhood. I also believe because of that she wanted to live a completely opposite life from her family. Second, I feel like she saw some similarities in the Plaths and took it upon herself to liberate them. Although well intended I feel she over stepped. You cannot go into someone's house and tell them how to run there house and family. What she chooses for herself and her home cannot be forced on others. I feel that's were the conflict came in. For example, coming to someone's house who has chosen to be sugar free with tons of sugary sweets because you feel you know best. is so disrespectful. I can see why the parents were upset with Olivia. She would do things like that a lot. As far as Mica and Mariah I do feel she lead the way to freedom pointed out flaws that they did see as flaws and she would at times make them feel like they had to choose between there family and her. An example of that of this is at Mariah's performance. There is always room for healing in families that are willing to do the work. Thank you so much for posting these recaps I truly to enjoy them.

With the performance thing she gave Moriah a choice. Moriah was the one that chose Olivia over her parents. Life is full of choices why is the fandom handicapping the Plaths?Even in the worse parts of their marriage Ethan still said Olivia didn’t lie on his parents & Moriah always had problems with their parents

I really did take up for Olivia All the way til the episode of them going to Joshua grave.. she should have been there for Ethan and the siblings on that day just as they were there for her on so many occasions... she didn't tho.. she even made that day All about herself and I was just done with her at that point...

I agree that the Path family is toxic in many ways and I do think that when Olivia arrived instead of welcoming her they made her the scapegoat. However, every episode with Olivia was like a freaking therapy! If you need therapy there's no shame in it. However don't walk around and talk like a therapist unless you are one. I never saw Olivia just let her hair down and have fun.

Things aren’t black and white and I’m sure there is so much the audience doesn’t know that was never filmed and/or aired so I don’t think its fair to place all the blame on one side or the other. With that said I was disappointed many times when Olivia refused to accept the many olive branches she was given by her husbands family. Yes, Kim did make some stupid moves like saying Ethan and Olivia couldn’t see the kids alone but I believe it was just so she could also see Ethan. Later she knew she fked up. Anyways Kim did show growth in my opinion and started raising the younger kids differently and it seems she let Micah and Moriah live their life without trying to control them. Kim’s biggest mistake really was always trying to force Ethan and Olivia back in their lives the biggest one being selling the farm and moving the whole family in to town. It didn’t work cause Olivia is stubborn AF and couldn’t see that Kim was acting all controlling and crazy cause she loves Ethan so much and was just cut out of his life and all she was trying to do was getting him to talk and interact with the family again. Anyways I’m glad they are divorced. They didn’t belong together. I’m gay but omg I see so many of my friends with girlfriends and wives like Olivia and I’m so glad I’m gay. She overthinks things and is always looking for and creating issues. Ethan will be so much happier.

He is not a nice man. He is very toxic towards Olivia and made her go thru years of shit we didn’t even see with no support. Moving the family down the street was a huge boundary cross. Also the levels of controlling were abusive and definitely not out of love but a genuine mental issue. I am very glad that no woman will have to deal with your misogynistic attitude in a relationship.

Olivia likes to triangulate people. She is a toxic person bc she starts a nasty comment and then makes herself into the victim. She ruined everything, every time she could. She hates people and is a manipulating gas lighter. I'm so glad that Ethan is getting away from her. She likes to lie about others on social media. She will end up alone, once people become aware of her behavior. I don't expect to see her ever take responsibility. She would make the worst mother anyway.

I definitely understand your view point, because I initially felt that way too. However, I also understand that anxiety lacks logic sometimes and that’s what her reaction was. She was told Kim wasn’t going to be there and then the plans changed. She clearly is very traumatized by Kim. Knowing that Olivia and Ethan talked through it and she apologized, I feel Olivia corrected it as best as she could.
