The Korean national archery team is employing brain wave training and other innovative methods to help in their goal of sweeping all four archery events at the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio.

Burdened with the heaviest expectations for gold medals among the Korean delegation to the Olympic Games, the national archery team has introduced innovative training methods to fulfill its goal of sweeping all archery events. When an archer shoots an arrow, a headset measures his brain waves and shows his momentary focusing capacity numerically. Archers are also trained to imagine the actual competition situation with their eyes closed. When their brain waves register beyond the normal range, the chair vibrates to immediately indicate an anxious condition. To prevent wasting even a second of time, a game has been developed to boost the archers' concentration during breaks.
[Soundbite] Kim Woo-jin(Korean Nat’l Archery Team) : "I retain the feeling of shooting arrows through image training before I go to bed."
[Soundbite] Dr. Kim Young-sook(Korea Institute of Sport Science) : "Brain wave training has been carried out since last year. There has been a 10% improvement."
The Korean archery team's preparations are so amazingly thorough that Al Jazeera, Reuters, and the IOC documentary team have covered the process. Even 3D printing has been employed to pull off the challenge of sweeping the events. In order to prepare for a possible broken bow grip, an issue about which archers are most sensitive, several copies of the optimally shaped grips have been made using a 3D printer.
[Soundbite] Moon Hyung-chul(Head Coach, Korean Nat’l Archery Team) : "The salient point is that we use equipment other countries don't."
Korean archers have dominated the world for several decades by staying one step ahead of others in their preparation. Now the team is aiming to sweep all four archery events for the first time in Olympic history.
