Such a good idea. I'm really into modifying used vs building from scratch and I can't believe that sweet box is all aluminum! Subbed for more.

Thanks! Keep an eye out for the old M1031 military boxes, definitely a great platform to start from. A standard service bed would also work well. We passed up a really nice Reading Utility Bed that was aluminum as well. It’s really nice have the extra storage space and the truck has taken us to some incredible places! I will get more Dodge videos up soon 👌

Oh man I’ve been waiting for this! I have the short bed 02 Cummins and the same military box. Trying to decide on building a camper out of it that sits directly on top of the factory bed. And add the over cab bed area! I’m sure I’ll have to extend the rear end back . So looking forward to watching your build!
@OlympicOverland4 жыл бұрын
These boxes are awesome, you should definitely build it! I will show more footage of welding the cabover soon. I built the top to handle plenty of weight for snow loads and to walk around and use it as a deck. We are planning a hatch to climb out of the cabover.

Nice build. What do you expect your height to be with the top extention? 9-10 feet?
@OlympicOverland3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think we are about 9’ 8” and still much lighter than the stock bed with our Alaskan Camper. We have a lot of interior work to do now and I just started on the diesel heater installation. Hopefully adding windows soon.
@DuddiesAdventure4 жыл бұрын
Great update! I'm currently looking for a M1010 Box to put on my dodge. What size lift/tires are you running on your truck? Im curious because Im trying to determine how large of a tire I can use before it gets too top heavy with the tall military box. Does your 2nd Gen have front and rear sway bars? Your truck looks great! Can't wait to see more!
@OlympicOverland4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Those m1010 boxes are awesome, the extra height is nice and I would have definitely bought one if the m1031 didn’t show up at the right moment. I’m pretty sure the m1010 is mostly aluminum as well so you may not be as top heavy as they look. I currently have 17” wheels with 35” BFG Ko2’s (35/12.5/17) and a 6” lift. So far my truck rides great and is really stable but I will keep you posted as we add the new top and start building out the interior. My plan is to use Carli or Thuren springs for a plush ride that will have a custom rate for our finished weight with all of our gear then add rear air bags if we need to stiffen up the ride on long highway sections. I will include some shots of my current suspension setup in the next video so you can get a better look at everything. Cheers 👍

@@OlympicOverland Good deal, Thanks for the details! Your build is very interesting and I hope to start mine soon!
@joshreed71024 жыл бұрын
Now this is going to be interesting, I love the concept. By the way, where did you get the diesel heater?
@OlympicOverland4 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh, I put a link in the description of this video for a couple of diesel heater options from Amazon 👉 Overlanding - keeping it simple in a classic 1970 Alaskan Camper . If the link doesn’t work you can search “parking heater” or “Chinese diesel heater” on eBay or amazon and prices range from around $100-$200 for the complete kit. I recommend the 5kw version with the black LCD screen vs the rotary dial because you can tune the LCD version with different settings and there is a nice aftermarket controller available from a fellow in Australia called the Afterburner. Facebook has a great Chinese diesel heater group that has been really informative, lots of people are running these now and they work great. We have had one in our Alaskan for at least 2 1/2 years now and it’s been awesome. 👍

😂 ha ha! It is a great bumper and nice that it is made in the USA but how hard could it be to just return my call? Overall the brackets turned out great and it was nice to add the extra milled slots for adjustments so in the end it was a good thing. 👍
