The sheer level of energy and insight from Sarah when it comes to Haikyuu is pretty refreshing, honestly. I've watched other coaches/players' reactions to this series as well, but something about her reaction just feels like it adds some much-needed touch in a way.
@TrianaNero2 жыл бұрын
I feel like she's got a /really/ great balance between her professional perspective and actually paying a lot of attention to the story and its more emotional, ~personal~ aspects of character growth. In a way, now that I think about it, it is the same kind of balance Haikyuu has as a story between the sports and the story (characters) aspect :"D
@TheNilsbuss2 жыл бұрын
It is as Triana said, I have seen quite allot of people react to Haikyuu and out of the players/coaches that give insight practically all of them miss so much of the story or completely forget the story. While Sarah is actually watching and enjoying the show whilst also being able to give insight.
@seekittycat2 жыл бұрын
I remember when she first started about how "she doesn't really watch anime" so I was expecting her to look at Haikyuu from a purely technical aspect. But Sarah is so emotionally invested since day one is ready to throw hands 😂😂. I feel because she's so advance on the technical aspect of volleyball she has no problem following the plays and can focus on the drama and emotion that's happening on the court easier then many first time watchers who might get confused.

Yahaba's inner future captain is showing hard in this one and we love it :D It's really great because he did something none of Kyotani's teammates did before. As we see in the flashback, his team saw only a weapon in him and then just abandoned him when he got off the rails. But Yahaba snapped him back into teamwork and Oikawa finished it with the next toss. Two captains together getting a good player back on the team, it's really sweet.

That Kiyoshi guy's speech about team to mad dog:- "A team is reliable and also annoying at times. They are strong allies yet cause a lot of stress", was top tier 👍. I am sure it resonates with every person to some extent. We all have friction within a team at some point in our life. Haikyuu is just the best.
@rygarzayt2 жыл бұрын
I think the story of Mad Dog imo is showing how he finds an outlet in volleyball and a feeling of belonging he’s been searching for. I can’t say that it’s too important in the long run other than showing another side to an interesting character. Still fun to see more stories in general of these players!
@Nathahollic2 жыл бұрын
The thing about Haikyuu is that it shows that anyone can play volleyball. Whatever personality you may have, and the way they play is different because of that personality. I love it.
@erineko18472 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I would have loved to see it if they had given us more about Kyōtani’s back story. But the point has been made in this episode, in the previous team he played, his teammates would talk behind his back and never confronted him to his face like Yahaba did here or Iwaizumi and Oikawa previously. As Yahaba understood, Kyōtani was putting on a front but we don’t have further insight into him and that is a pity. Even when I understand that for narrative reasons Aoba Johsai High is presented as a foil to Karasuno, as I rewatched the first two seasons, I think that this team and Nekoma are very interesting. We have to focus on Karasuno, but the dynamics of the other teams are as much interesting, as well as the individual stories of characters like Kenma and Oikawa.

I love hearing Sarah singing praises to Tsukki's emotional intelligence!!! At 5:37 you can see Tsukki looking at Tanaka and Mad Dog glaring at each other. He is very observant, and he uses all these subtle things to help the team score a point. There will be more scenes like this in the future seasons and I cannot wait for you to watch them! Also, has Tsukki set a foot in Sarah's love castle???
@Kuoncchi2 жыл бұрын
Maybe a bit overlooked but when Mad Dog came back to the court, Oikawa's first set was to him. This makes Okiawa's "I believe in you" more impactful, the look he gave Mad Dog also says a lot, it was like I know you got this one. Just a nice small detail I think was nice.

Loved seeing Iwaizumi's great receive being noticed (23:10).🎵 Gonna leave my support as usual, & my personal opinions about the iffy subs as usual: 18:45 「チームから逃げて…あっちこっちで定住する事なく練習…」➔ "Running away from the team, and practicing elsewhere without rest". This should be more like “So you ran away from your team... practice here & there without settling down anywhere (choosing any 1 place) …”. I’m assuming that they translated 「定住 (=to settle down)」to ”without rest” either because they thought “to settle down” was meant in a “to tone down the excitement” kinda way or that NOT settling down must equal "non-stop", but 「定住」has a "take up residence" type of meaning, so the “settle down” here is rather about “choosing a place/base of operations”. 25:13「まだ?」➔"Again?". This is perfectly fine & unavoidable with the way they translated the line right before, but 「まだ」actually means "yet" or "still" (「また」is "again"). A more literal translation for Oikawa's「でも、まだ変えずにいってみよう!」would be like "But let's (still) keep trying without changing it (for a while)". The word "again" kinda sounds like they could've just tried it out a few more times rather than giving off the vibe that they continued trying this out for some time afterwards. This is just really a nit-pick, since this ep had very few lines I had a problem with. LOL

I hope someday people would read those comments, too...

@@bdylp1098 I definitely have been looking forward to reading your comments! you explaining the nuances of word choices in the translations adds so much for depth and understanding to the show! especially when you clarify mis-translations about characters' emotional states or just give more context as to why a translation works but actually says so much more than what the subs give. I appreciate your comments so much! I hope others read them as well because it really does deepen my connection with the show and these amazing characters. context is everything, thank you so much!! ❤

Haikyuu has a beautiful unique "hero enemy" concept. Ofcause we are rooting for Karasuno, but Haikyuu gets really legendary once we start to root for the other team aswell. Many other anime have you root for the "hero" only, which also happens at the beginning of every match in Haikyuu. But they humanize the opponent during the game, show us past, present and character progression on the other side of the net and THEN the real fun begins. Transforming a faceless wall of an enemy to overcome into a friendly sports rival for us is the Haikyuu magic. That way we have twice the fun when a play works out, both for Karasuno AND for the opponent. That makes the eventual victory even better, because Karasuno hasn't just defeated a powerfull group of nonames, but actually capable people who also gave it their all. I find it so wholesome when other teams "we" have defeated (or have to defeat yet) come to watch Karasuno's match and vice versa and they root for each other. Best example and best rival is Nekoma.

"You need to face the team, and have the team face you. If you're able to do that, you'll both clash and become even stronger. And if you're able to do that, just know that you're lucky. Teams like that don't exist everywhere." this is one of my favorite quotes/moments from the show. that shot of Kyotani (Mad Dog) turning around after scoring that point and seeing the team cheer for him as that last line hit always makes me a bit teary-eyed... I just can't help but love Aoba Johsai and the guys' dynamics (on and off the court). With Oikawa, I think what Kageyama and Suga see as setters is his ability to work well with Mad dog off the bat, as soon as he comes back in, he understands that it's a good time to set him. Generally, i think kageyama and suga wouldn't know how to work with this guy and form a strategy around him in this way, and this is why they're impressed. To your 3 points Sarah, I would add 2 more why Oikawa seems to be super good- he's a great tactician and strategist, and he keeps tabs on how his hitters are feeling and changing during the match. I don't particularly like this character either - but i have to admit, he is very good and he makes the show very interesting
