Team USA's Jade Carey rebounded from a scary vault final to win the gold the medal in the women's floor exercise final inside Tokyo 2020's Ariake Gymnastics Centre. Four-time Olympian Vanessa Ferrari of Italy won her first medal at the Games, taking silver. Japan's MURAKAMI Mai and ROC's Angelina Melnikova shared the bronze medal.
Carey posted a 14.366 for the win. Ferrari was the silver medallist at 14.200, with Murakami and Melnikova tied at 14.166.
"Coming back from a day like yesterday, I'm really proud of myself for being able to put that behind me and finish with probably the best floor routine I've ever done in my life," said Carey.
Ferrari performed an emotional routine to 'Con te partirò', a song made famous by Andrea Bocelli. The 2006 world all-around champion tumbled a double-double to open and nailed the landing.
Murakami's floor bronze is the first medal for her country in women's gymnastics since they won team bronze in 1964. For Melnikova, it wraps up her Olympics with a third medal after leading ROC to gold nearly a week ago and claiming bronze in the women's all-around final. _____________________________________________________

I love how the speakers talk about Vanessa. They genuinely love her. She was stunning. 31 years in November and still on the top. Most of the competitors have half of her age. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF THEY WILL BE AT THE OLYMPICS AT THEIR 30S. I honestly doubt it. Congrats to all, anyway but Ferrari really showed what is passion and determination in sport.

@@mrparts this may be the most ridiculous sounding comment ever, and I’m the first to admit that (so don’t pay me out tooooo much lol) but I (for whatever reason) think of swimming and “torpedo” kicks/the execution of turns - the tighter the arms, the more aerodynamic…..nooooo idea whether that applies on land or not (feel free to both judge and laugh, btw); but if by chance it does, maybe it’s more efficient for her to use that technique? My thoughts were that with her build/technique/proportions, perhaps she can can gain more speed and height than she would otherwise?

You can see how mature Vanessa is. How she feels and interprets the music. Jade is 21, not that young in this sport actually. For example Aly was 18 in London and had a routine complete with both tumbling and a nice interpretation that showed her own style. I wish they had come up with something for Jade's routine to complement her tumbling.

@Themarvelouss No you're missing the point. Had gymnasts like Vanessa Ferrari, Mai Murakami, Jess Gadirova or Gelya Melnikova for example had the same type of choreography as Jade, they would never have gotten as close as within 3 tenths of Jade in the final. Jade won based on her difficult tumbling alone, had she not had the difficult tumbling she wouldn't have even medaled. But the reason why the gymnasts I listed got so close is because whilst they were behind Jade on difficulty, they had great choreography and interpretation. Choreography is just as important as difficulty, it's not part of a floor routine for no reason.

American gymnastics focas on tumbles than art
@vanessaruiz4705
@vanessaruiz4705 2 жыл бұрын
she was cringey all the time she was not tumbling. I mean, is it really that hard to show a little bit of grace? I thought no one could be worse than Tweedle in that respect but Jade proved that wrong. And before someone says something stupid, I was rooting for US to win, so dont try to go there. I am just saying that Jade is the least graceful gymnast on floor I've ever seen and that is something she could easily improve but she just doesnt care, which is wrong. And I'd rather have someone else winning. Someone who takes floor routine seriously in all its aspects. Biles for instance does awesome tumbling and also shows some grace on floor. Nothing too complicated or ballerina-like but... i dont know...at least she doesnt look like she is sleeping when she is not tumbling.

This might be my favorite podium of the entire Olympics because of how great of a story it all is. First we had a shared bronze medal which I think is really cool, you don't always have to seperate two medalists. Then we had Vanessa Ferrari FINALY getting her Olympic medal after finishing fourth in the last two Olympics. Lastly we had Jade Carey who in just 24 hours was able to bounce back from her failure in the Vault Final (which probably was the worst moment in her career) and win the gold medal.

To all the "experts" quoting Jade's dancing/artistry wasn't upto the mark, I agree, but she got deducted for it, at least 0.5, she'd not have got an 8.033 on execution had it been only based on her tumbling as her execution was phenomenal and very clean. It's not her fault other's can't do the more difficult passes, some people use dance elements to boost their difficulty as they can't do big skills, it's an individual choice and a balancing act, so please do not bring down Jade or any other gymnast for your half baked analysis. They work hard for it their entire lives and all of them rightfully deserved the medals they received.
