I show the OLYMPUS OM-2 Spot Program camera and differences between 3 versions of the Zuiko 50mm f1.8 lens---- I have found out since that setting shutter speed to either 'B' or '60' on the RED turns off battery and saves power.

Glad to see your sounding well and still playing with cameras, always love the straightforward reviews and information. Glad you got a new toy to play with, I just got a Kodak retina IIIS to play with this week.

The ones marked “made in Japan” on the filter ring are multi coated and they were the final version. The F.Zuiko lenses are the oldest, followed by the MC, then the made in Japan were the last ones.

My OM-2 SP is just marked 'Japan' on the filter ring

@@theoldfilmbloke It's still multi coated but it's not the final version of the lens. I believe that your lens has the same optical formula as the ones marked "made in Japan", which were produced up to the end of OM production.

The Zuiko lenses seem to keep in excellent condition, and I like the compact size. The camera looks a really nice example. Thanks for the video.

I left my om2 spot program on B and the batteries still went flat the only way to save the batteries is to take them out.

Hi Peter . You can turn off the over exposure warning sound by turning the self timer button to the other direction (clockwise ) . The lens with the ( made in japan ) is actually the last edition of the lens and the better one .

Ive had two of these, if you want the batteries to last any time at all, do not use the battery check position, turn off the beeper, do not accidentally press the viewfinder illumination button (almost impossible to do), and most important of all - take the batteries out between sessions. Also always take spare batteries with you because your current batteries can expire any second and always do. On batteries always use silver oxide SR44 as they last a bit longer than the alkaline LR44 batteries. Other than that its a lovely camera 🙂.

@@theoldfilmbloke My functioning one is my current daily carry camera 😊, and I foolishly went out with it at the weekend without spare batteries and got about 500yds before the camera batteries did the inevitable 🙄🪒.

@@davewebster6945 how long would you say your batteries last? mine eat away at batteries but I was using alkaline and just ordered silver oxide
@davewebster6945

@@bertosfilmbag id say about a month if your careful maybe a bit more. It really depends on your actual camera, because they are old now and the condition of the electronics will vary from camera to camera. But always remove the batteries after youve finished taking pics if you want them to last at all. The silver oxides hold the full voltage for much longer than the alkalines which have a continual dropping of the voltage till its too low to operate the camera. I did buy a winder drive to see if that would help but without batteries in the camera the metering displays abd shutter dont work at all. Good luck 👍.

Hi Peter, great video, lovely camera. As far as I know the letter before Zuiko refers to the number of elements in the lens. So F=6 and G=7.

Forgot to add have been using the om lenses on a modem mirrorless fuji with a cheap adapter. Fantastic results manual only of course but great fun to use and they are reasonably cheap. Tim

Good video. "B" is for Bulb (long exposure). Use only the silver oxide batteries. They won't drain away like the alkaline or lithium batteries. I didn't read all the comments. Sorry if this is repetitious.

My lens also has the " Japan, MC, auto-s and is multi coated. If that helps anyone. I also believe it was the second one in the lens lind, but I may be wrong about that.

YES - been out again TODAY with this camera and also my 1962 Rolleicord Vb testing some outdated Fuji Superia 100 - I gave it 1/2 stop extra and negs were great. I finished the Polaroid ( KONICA) 100 in this camera and got good negs

The battery drain was legendary as you say. But you are doing the corect thing by taking them out when not in use. I I totally gave up on it in the end and went back to my trusty 1n. I still have them both but I have used Nikon since I went digital.

About batteries -- Olympus said to use two silver oxide batteries only, no lithium or alkaline substitutes. Fresh silver oxide batteries WILL go dead in six to twelve months, sooner if you frequently use a dedicated flash. To make the camera useable at any time, certain portions of the circuit are always "on", resulting is a slight current drain, even when the meter is "off". As with any camera, when storing, remove the batteries.
