Just bought one of these after selling my EM-5MKIII. This is the model I have always wanted,and glad I got a new one while they were still available. Very insightful video and this Channel has been a great resource for all things Olympus to me for years now,Thanks!

Great first impression. I'm baffled by several other KZbin reviews that trash the camera. The leaked specs have been known for weeks and Olympus themselves have been positioning the camera for sports and wildlife shooters so how someone can be shocked and disappointed by the size is beyond me.

Some years later, I put this video on just to listen to it. I have an E-M1X and I use it every single day. It's so cool to listen to all the excitement about the camera when it first came out. I really enjoy mine, and I wish they would make another one like it, but I'm not sure they will. Being able to remove both batteries without having to take off the grip is a kind of nice quality of life improvement. For me the best camera is the one I don't notice when I'm shooting with it because it doesn't get in the way, and the E-M1X does that for me

Nice coverage. Thanks Peter. The variety of useful utilities and the thoughtful way they are implemented make this a very cost effective camera. If you have two or more photography interests this camera starts paying for itself by the depth it covers for each of its features; its not just a dabbler in different things, it brings home the bacon and fries it up. Landscapes?...the built in (although Pseudo) ND filters save you the money of a good set of filters ($400 and up), and it's always with you on camera. Need big wall hangers?.... High Resolution. Sports Shooter?....well covered. Image Quality?...pshaww!...impeccable glass!

Great video. I think you made a very smart point about the AI, imagine if : " you can take a picture of a couple, ask the camera to learn their faces via the AI, and then always recognize them and have them in focus? Imagine an event, where you can preset the athletes , and ALWAYS have them in focus?

Good review. 2 questions:- 1. Why have camera manufacturers not standardised on the more common micro USB cable connection. 2. Are we likely to ever see an app for tablets or laptop PCs to connect to the camera to change and store settings. It can be very fiddly to change settings using the camera screen and small buttons to do this. To do it on a screen using keyboard and mouse would be great.

The USB-C is better than Micro USB connector. The Micro USB is really a weak one, by the specs it should last about 6000 connections (plug in and then out is two connections) if I remember correctly, and then the plug is broken. The USB-C is rated to 100 000 IIRC and it is far more than the MicroUSB. You can even have video, audio, network and power go through USB-C. It is really the universal serial bus that can charge even higher voltage and ampers than MIcroUSB

@@katumus Thanks, I didn't know that. It is just that Micro USB seems to be used for everything except cameras.
@katumus
@katumus 5 жыл бұрын
@@johnvanbarneveld5507 it was. It took long time to get every manufacturer to support it instead Mini-USB (digital cameras, external DVD drives etc used that as it was little bigger and sturdier) but eventually all except Apple did choose that. Apple then went from 20 pin connector (that Samsung copied) to current lightning and so on there was two only, everyone else and Apple. Then few years ago USB 3.0 came and it failed as it was much bigger than micro USB and had even three different connectors. So a failure. Then USB 3.1 came and USB-C and just now USB-C is getting more popular as new devices uses it. I am not sure as I don't follow Apple for few years now, but one their ad said that iPad can be charged with it, so there can be possibility that even Apple switched to it from lighting. Don't know, but if so, amazing! The USB-C really can have all connections through it, what makes it great. But downside is that even when cable connector is same, all cables ain't and some connections neither. There are color coded plugs like red or yellow or green. But not cables. So you don't know what cable can do what... Huge downside IMHO! BUT in future all of support just that, then better! If you want easy on the go charging, get a USB charger from eBay or Amazon. Cost like 6-7 € and has LCD that show charging instead just one light. You can get micro USB or even USB C or plug. So you can charge battery in car, in bag or anywhere. Those are tiny chargers, almost size of battery itself!

Great review. I have the first generation EM5 and several pro lenses. I keep hoping to see the Mark III EM5 version with the 20mp sensor come out but maybe EM1 or EM1X is what I should look at now. I do love the EM5 size however.

I have read and heard in videos that it is the same sensor as the M1 Mark II. The improvements are in dual processors for better autofocus and bigger buffer. Oh. And both card slots are UHS II. I am thinking the hoped for M5 Mark III will have an improved sensor and improved video.
@Smoothblue90

Great camera. I have the M1 Mark II. This M1X camera is more than I need. But an M1 Mark III or M5 Mark III with 120 fps 1080 and dual UHS II card slots would be sweet. I would love for them to upgrade the M5 to be dual card slots and GH5 level video, without the M1 sports autofocus and weather sealing. Canon has the 1D sports beast and the 5D event body. Olympus should follow that strategy with the M1 and M5.

The design looks great. Utility over looks. Nice that they differentiate dials and buttons by feel rather than just look and label. Fujifilm could learn a hell of a lot from Olympus. Sadly, this probably won't do anything for Olympus.
@katumus
@katumus 5 жыл бұрын
A logical review, that finally goes to touch the small details and changes. Like how the grip really feels, how the dials are designed, that how many Fn buttons you have etc. IMHO the E-M1 II dials are better, faster to move AF point around with them than that mini-stick (what Olympus now calls it?) and far faster and easier to operate. It is like Olympus wanted to lure Canon/Nikon users to that body by its familiar design. The battery design is as well worse. Because you can't shoot same time as you charge the batteries in body, why the "in-body charging" is gimmick feature for professionals that need to move a lot. Better just get a USB charger and then the power bank and just charge the extra batteries in the bag and swap when needed. And the HLD-9 (and previous ones) allowed to swap the HLD battery while the in-body battery kept camera powered and that way you get quickly swap battery in assigment and never to come situation that you are there with battery in your other hand and camera in other and situation goes. With previous model you always were ready to take shots and the in-body was as backup for those moments.
@ForsgardPeter
@ForsgardPeter 5 жыл бұрын
That is good point about the battery. I agree with you. I never thought of that because I very seldom use my HLD-9. When I do its when making a lots of portraits in a long photo session. They should have had the USB-charging in the slide where the batteries are so that it could have been used whit another set batteries while the other one is being charged by the USB-power bank.

In ISS there wouldn't be difference, as the station still rotates around the earth in similar manner as it would be rotating in space when on earth. The lack of gravity is just affecting the effectiveness of IBIS as the sensor would be lighter to move and so on likely influence its effectiveness. But for gyroscopes, they would still be affected by their movement in space. The difference would be if the camera would be further in space, away from the gravity fields, as then the gyroscopes would be detecting only camera movement. But that is as well a challenge as the small sensors capability to detect the tiny affects like the earth rotation (that is basically fixed and known by different parts of earth) and separate it from the camera motion itself. More precise sensor allows to detect the earth rotation, GPS to tell where camera is located and then that way calculate earth rotation out.

Nice video. However, this is the question I cannot answer. Why should I pay 3000 USD for a dinky Sensor based camera system if I can get for the same amount of money already a Sony A9 (I received nine two days ago and brand new) which is a way better performer at low light and also faster - 20fps with (!) Autofocus. It cannot be the size and weight of the body as this is more like a DSLR. So what is it? Why?
@ForsgardPeter
@ForsgardPeter 5 жыл бұрын
Size of the system could be one? What about the weather sealing? E-M1X and E-M1 MKII can do 60fps raw files and with ProCapture. Of course the buffer size is limited when shooting 60fps. A9 is a great camera no doubt about that. We all do decisions based on our needs. Any camera these days can be used to make grate images.

I own both olympus and sony ff systems. I shoot 90% of the time with the Olympus why? IBUS and the feel of the Olympus bodys. The Olympus feel right in the hand which allows me more time to shoot. The file's I get from the micro 4/3 are more than good enough. Even pixel peeping there is a difference but it's so slight.

I think that the integrated grip is a big minus for the camera. Now we have MFT 2x bigger, 2x heavier a 2x more $$$$ , All the advantages of MFT format are out and gone. Many FF format cameras on the market are smaller, lighter and cheaper ... why would anybody switch to Olympus ... very sad ??? 50 MPX mode is a joke, I can't do 0.5 sec. or longer exposures for my landscape shots , I think that a new 30MPX sensor would be much better , then the outdated 20MPX , rather then the pseudo mode. Jared Polin just posted images at ISO 800 , at the margin of usability , to be in PRO market you must shoot grain-less at 6400 and higher ??? It's just not there ... I have with my E-M1m2 the grip too , but I used it only 1x , too big and heavy for hiking and landscape and travel photography. I rather take an extra lens if I can ... Anyway , now is good market for E-M1m2 selling for $1600 ??? Or Pen-F for $1000 both with the same sensor ....

I love olympus cameras...but who's going to pay near 3k for a body that can't cope with high iso....this is full frame money and not far off full frame size...I think olympus has lost there way with this one...it needed a new sensor for it to be competitive.imho.

Absolutely over here in Australia it’s $4500 !! The viewfinder resolution is crappy too.....few reports of lines all through it! Love Olympus but this is all wrong for micro four thirds. Should be called Mega four thirds. System was supposed to be smaller and lighter. Now we have this and the heavy pro lenses so what’s the advantage? Especially with the tiny sensor and dof.
