Thanks for the info. The biggest deal breaker for me is the plastic top. Personal preference. I know it's a bigger camera, but for the same price I can get a EM1 mk3, at least down here... Does the new processor significantly improve AF? I am toying with the idea of getting a Fuji X-S10 as a new walk around camera and handful of cheap manual lenses. To me, the EM5mk2 still is THE classic Olympus camera as far as the look and feel are concerned. Have a great day!

Nice upgrades! The handheld hi-res, webcam feature and especially no time limit in video recording maybe stand out to me most. But not upgrading to USB-C is almost inexcusable =) Will still continue with my E-M5mk3 for now.

Me too, but I don’t think I was the target for the OM5… maybe if still had my EM10iii it would be worthwhile. Yes, the OM5 really should have USB-C fitted, and the new menus. But it still wouldn’t have swayed me - I just bought a new lens instead!

I agree with Peter. The OM 5 has the important features of the OM 1, weighs less, and costs much less. What the OM 1 has that is important for bird photography is a faster processor and eye detection. As far as the small size of the 4/3rd sensor, the image quality is so good that I would only use high res if I wanted to blow up a picture large enough to hang on the wall. For all of my other uses, 20 mp is already more than I need. Both of these cameras feature exceptional in-body image stabilization and exceptional weather sealing. My OM 1 replaces a 35 mm DSLR, which was a heavy brick that I didn't carry around. The OM 1 camera is one that I actually use. It is a delight.

I appreciate your first impression! 👍👍 For OM System to release this camera with old menu, old usb, talk about video "features" while not adding headphone output as the first camera with their branding, it's very underwhelming. Especially after the OM1. The OM1 impressed me a lot. Maybe that gave me false hope that this would have been a more modernizing upgrade. I'm sure the camera is fine if it fits a person's needs. I make an EM10 3 work as best I can for birds and mostly have fun with everything else. I've been trying to figure out what would be a good upgrade for me. Em1x has nice some features but it's too large and "heavy". OM1 comes closer in features. When I really compare them and look at cost I think about switching to the R7 instead. Overall size and weight is very important for my use which is why I'm trying to stick with m4/3.

A very good device but which would be welcome if the em5 mk III did not exist... HHHR and ND is very good, the Log too. But the faults of the em5 remain the same three years later (usbc, headphones, autonomy, alloy, fragility base for tripod, only one custom mode on wheel, menu...). Probably not interesting enough for owners of the em5 mkIII. And newcomers will now find this camera at half price second-hand. For my part, I will wait for the OM3 😅

There’s a lot to like about the OM5. It keeps the tough polycarbonate body (maybe just to annoy those who think it’s a bad thing when it isnt for most users); the smaller battery pack as used on the EM10 range (much appreciated by me who had 4 of these batteries already when I upgraded from the EM10 which is presumably the upgrade route Olympus was expecting people to take when it launched the EM5iii); the same 20MP sensor that has given me great images on my EM5iii .. the same HDR mode that is a great feature on bright days… with the addition of a couple of other features that are very tempting including upgraded IBIS, the very tempting Hand Held HiRes mode and digital NDF mode. To be honest, I’ll be sticking with the EM5iii I have for now - but that’s not unexpected. When I had a Nikon D60, I didn’t get the D3000 or D3100 when I upgraded, I got the D90, and then eventually the D610 before ditching it all for MFT. I was comparing some shots from my Nikon D610 with its 24-70mm f2.8 lens with some I took in the same location a few years later with my Olympus MFT kit. There really is not a huge difference. Whenever I think of switching to Fuji I really stop and think - what for? The IQ change really is barely noticeable. The days of getting massive leaps forward on every model is gone. It’s all about incremental changes now, probably more AI based and Olympus/OMDS seem to have a good handle on that. I’m also very appreciative of the excellent choice of MFT lenses with sizes, IQ and prices to suite everyone. So whenever I get itchy feet and think of going APSC-C FF (again) I think of the size and weight of my kit bag I carried then and and how easy it is now with MFT. I also try and remember a camera is just a tool - whatever sensor or lenses you have, if you aren’t using your eyes and mind and put some thought into capturing a great image, you aren’t going to get great results.

I agree with you. Cameras are so good nowadays there is no reason to upgrade every 2 years. I bought a om-d 10 iV recently because the screen of the mark II broke and I decided not to pay to fix it as the camera was getting old. I chose the omd-10 because of the tilt screen and I do not need the additional options you find in the omd-5. The omd-10 is more than good enough so to say. I do enjoy the better autofocus, the better IBIS of the mark IV vs mark ii (HDR works handheld now ) etc. The "plastic" body is also nice with the new grip. Overall the mark iv is a better camera but the mark ii would continue to be fine for my use.

Thank you for a very good review. I think that OM SYSTEM makes a right step with OM -5. They need a smaller camera for hikers and mountaineers in the line. This camera is not for those who already have got EM 5 mark III as me. But there is a lot of people who do not have EM 5 mark III and need a camera of this type. So all the buzz about not enough large difference between them has not much sense from my point of view. In fact I like the "old" menu of Olympus very much in comparison with Lumix DC GX-9 that I used for mountaineering before.

We're now seeing the pattern. The 1 flagship camera is released, then the 5 camera gets the internal guts from the previous 1 flagship camera. So the EM5 mark 3 gets the EM1 mark 2 internals. Now the OM5 (mark 1) gets the EM1 mark 3 internals. I have an EM5 mark 3 and like its form factor and ergonomics very much. It's a beautiful small camera. I'll skip the OM5, but I would be interested in an OM5 mark 2 when I presume it will get the OM1 internals.

Hi Peter, let me premise that I don't make videos and if I do I use the iPhone. So my thought is only for the photo compartment. If today I had to choose between this camera and a Lumix G9 I would still choose the G9. I don't argue about the cool features it has, but it seems to me a new/old camera and with the 800 euro now I buy an old/new camera. A camera that does not have perfect continuous AF but the perfect single focus, has dual card slots, has better ergonomics, and has proven quality. It has far and near focus, great personalization, and excellent stabilization. And last but not last, a good eye finder. For the same money, I add a very good lens such as can be the Leica 12-60 or the 12-35 2.8. You asked for the thoughts of those who follow you with interest and this is mine, without controversy and without factionalism. I'm just saying that for that money I expected something better. The fact that it has a micro USB is not a problem, but it says a lot about the fact that I consider it a recycling operation and an attempted modernization just because everyone was waiting for an OM5 and marketing rules. Kind regards

Hello Peter, thank you for the initial review and I look forward to seeing future ones on this system. As an E-M5 Mk III owner, I don’t see myself immediately upgrading to the OM-5 (absent a disaster befalling my current body), but I can say the new one does have several features I would like to have, namely the Starry AF and Live ND. I liked those features that were part of the E-M1 system when I first got the E-M5 Mk III in 2020, but as an enthusiast, I couldn’t justify spending the extra $$. Fast forward to today: the OM-5 would definitely be the system of choice for the type of photography I prefer, especially with the great lenses now available to us. Unlike some, I have no qualms with the 12-45mm F4 Pro as one of the two lenses I regularly use (the 20mm F1.4 Pro is my other option). Great situational glass in my view, and I may yet round out my set up with the 40-150mm F4 Pro in due course.

It is not worth upgrading if you do not need the features. I like to use the 20mm F1.4 PRO with OM-5 like I like to use it with any of my cameras. 40-150mm F4 PRO is a perfect lens for OM-5.

Hey Peter, first great video and thank you for taking the time to highlighting some of the positives. However, I'm a bit disappointed with this camera. This should have been an opportunity for OM to bring back what the E-M5 body USED to be which was a camera that was revolutionary and different from the E-M1 bodies. I made two videos about what I think they should have done coming from a marketing and business point of view. This camera is going to be a hard sell. Especially when some of these other cameras that recycling parts or using older tech is coming out at a lower price point. If this was priced under $900(US) this maybe a good option for upgrade otherwise it'd be hard to persuade someone to choose this over something like a Canon R10 or Canon R7.

I'm a but underwhelmed. Old OS / menu system, same sensor, same video specs, there's no compelling reason to upgrade from a E-M5 III, and that's already getting on in years. I think I'd look at the used market for a E-M5 III before buying one of these. I don't understand why OM released this camera; maybe simply to fill the gap created by discontinuing the E-M5 III by offering a nearly identical (if dated) replacement? Very strange. Thanks for the video Peter. Wonderfully shot and presented as always!

Like many, I was initially a little bit disappointed with this camera. Thank you for your relatively upbeat review. I think it comes down to expectations. Many of us expected a completely new camera like the OM-1 or at least revolutionary changes over the E-M5 Mark III. This did not happen. Nevertheless, the OM-5 is a more significant upgrade over its predecessor than many have been willing to admit. We should not dismiss the 20 upgrades it offers. The handheld high resolution mode especially stands out to me. Of course, I would have liked to have seen an upgraded sensor and a return to full metal construction. I will probably not replace my E-M5 Mark III anytime soon but the OM-5 will be an excellent choice for someone just starting out with Micro 4/3.

I agree that the expectations were higher. One reason is the rumors. There are things that are not correct even though they are quite accurate. Same here, I would have liked to see some more, but I think it a quite nice upgrade. It all comes down to the fact that if someone needs/wants the features or not.

I think they've missed a trick here by not putting a USB-C connection on the device and allowing clean, live video output via a USB-C port. This would really make it into a great video camera as you could then also easily use it as an input video source on your computer to act as webcam or even as a live video camera whilst streaming live.

@@ForsgardPeter Good to know, thank you. I mentioned USB-C in the comment as the higher data transfer rates of USB-C would obviously help with live video. On another note, can you confirm, Peter, that the live video feed is clean? On the E-M10 Mk2 the feed was clean but on the E-M10 Mk3 the feed always had the battery indicator shown on the video feed no matter what. I raised this with Olympus support and the development team came back stating that they were aware of this and would consider it for the future... would be nice to hear confirmation from reviewers on this kind of thing as it kind of ruins the experience of using the E-M10 Mk3 as a live video source.

Well Peter you asked for it!! I’m a Nikon Z7 user having changed from Fujifilm. I have big hands and love the extra spacing of buttons and controls etc of full frame cameras. I really need to use a lens longer than 70mm so the extra weight of a full frame system is bearable at my ripe old age of 75. I also like a slow approach to well considered shots on a tripod and thus take only a few each time I go out. Clearly the OM-5 wasn’t targeted for users like me! It has some very interesting features to attract new buyers and I think OM Systems are heading down the right road by developing their computational features. Smartphones must be one of the biggest competitors and they are developing more every year. Thanks for a great video. It was good to watch.

@@ForsgardPeter Yes. Clearly, like me, when you see "OM System" you think "Olympus", and that's probably fairly unlikely to change. (I don't even want it to change, frankly. After all, the heritage is still there.) I read another comment somewhere, saying they wished that the new name had been OLYMPIC rather than OM System. Having seen that suggestion, I have to see that I really agree with it. There may be practical reasons why it wouldn't have been possible, but it's so close… only two letters would have needed to change, the logo could remain essentially the same, many people would barely notice the difference, and Olympic means "of Olympus" in any case. Shame they didn't go that way…

Honestly, in 2022, how can they still dare to use micro USB???) and the software (including the old menus) of an E-M1.3 in an E-M5.3 body. I don't forget that in its time, the E-M1. 3 was rather disappointing when it was released (even if it is still a good camera) because it brought too few improvements compared to the E-M1.2. The OM-1 let us hope for better days, but the cold shower was not long to come... How can OMDS continue to make the same mistakes, the ones that caused the loss of Olympus? Great video! I am thinking about getting the OM-5 in the future. It looks like a great camera. I think the OM-5 was critized too harshly by many youtubers and photo outlets during its release. There were two main things that were critized. The lack of USB-C and the simple branding change at the front of the camera. Personally, I never used the USB port on any of my cameras. I bought the OM-5 today with the 12-100mm f4 IS Pro lens. Less portable than a shorter zoom of the 20mm 1.4, but I now only need one lens for most use cases. One important aspect is the weather and dust sealing of the system: camera body and lens. I'll be in dry dusty places in the summer, so do not want to be changing lenses in those conditions. Another reason is that I don't want to lug around a large camera and lens system. The size of the OM-5 is perfect for my needs.

I really love my EM5 mk3. This looks like a fun upgrade but I would prefer to spend my money on some new M4/3 lenses (8-25 f4). I know that there is already a lot of criticism on the OM-5 not being enough of an upgrade but my thought on the OMD/Olympus system advantage is the quality, small form factor, cost and weather sealing of the OMD/Oly lenses with the camera. This is especially true of the new f4s and the 1.4 (hopefully more to come).

I have both EM5III and EM1III. I have tried the OM5 and OM1 (not extensively, I must say). To be honest, they didn't feel like a next generation cameras to me. Just not enough improvement to justify an upgrade. I'm glad that these cameras were put to the market though. It showed that the new owner is committed to continue the great tradition of Olympus. As a first buy, definitely yes, both are great cameras.

Using the better hardware from the EM-1 iii is not surprising. I never had any issues with the picture quality (I use Topaz software). The OM-1 made huge strides in af which was my main issue. I used a 5.3 as a second camera for less challenging situations (it's my daughters now)so this looks like a decent second camera. Paired with my 12-45mm and the 40-150mm f4 it will make a very nice carry about kit.

I still have my EM5 mark II and that is still an amazing camera to compliment my OM1. My photos were able to keep up with my girlfriends Canon 5 & 6D. Honestly, for whom OM Syetem are marketing the OM5 to, it's the perfect camera. The Live ND and Starry sky features are a great addition for adventure photographers. I am disappointed that we have the older menu system and lack of a "joystick". I also wish my EM5 II could do handheld high res, but it can't. OM5 looks to be an OK camera system. Not fancy or flashy. Great camera for beginners and mid level photographers. Will I upgrade my EM5 II to the OM5? Probably not. What I can't do with the EM5 II i can certainly do with my OM1. Great job Peter on the video and I anxiously wait to see the results of the comparison video of the OM5 with the EM5 III.

Thanks for the early review of the new OM-5 camera Peter. The new OM-5 is from sensor, processor and thus featureset identical to EM1III just in a smaller case. The EM1III was as its time of arrival only a minor update of the EM1II. So is the OM-5 to me. If my EM5MII breaks I may consider it as a 2nd body. More likely to happen is to replace my EM1III and make it a 2nd body with a more recent OM-1. The "new" OM-5 seems to be a disastrous outlook into the OM system portfolio (old technology in a new body) - I hope to be wrong! Arguing about the menu system - I fee the old one. However it's a strong message besides the micro-USB port to have even this identical to EM1III...

I agree with the other comments: this is a pathetic release and it's obvious that OM Systems decided they needed to release "something" to expand their lineup. I have an EM-5 Mark iii and I see nothing but trivial enhancements; certainly nothing to incentivize me to upgrade. In most situations, the step-down version of a flagship camera is essentially the flagship without some of the best specs. Perhaps the max FPS is 40 instead of 120; or the write speed is slower; that sort of thing. Instead, OMS decided to add the (useless for most users) computational ND filter but not the (more useful) subject detection. The OM-5 is just an EM-5 with a couple of ho-hum changes. I have no idea why anyone would upgrade from an older EM-5 or EM-1 to this body.

@stevenmeisel4288
@stevenmeisel4288 Жыл бұрын
@@jf9979 I can give you a laundry list of upgrades for the flagship OM-1, starting with a sensor that is > 20 megapixels. People say that this is the limit of M43 but Panasonic now has 24 megapixels in their M43 system. As a bird photographer who is often shooting subjects that are 3 inches long from a range of 50 feet or more, even with the great range of the Olympus glass I sometimes need to do extensive cropping; at 20 megapixels I often lose way too much resolution for a keepable image. What would also be useful is something that overcomes the noise and poor low-light performance inherent to M43. Yes, the hand-held high resolution mode can be helpful, but only in a small minority of scenarios; the feature is useless if there is any movement in the subject. In terms of the OM-5, the "proper" thing to have done would be to make it a slimmed down version of the OM-1. If they merely Incorporated the newer sensor and menu system while maintaining the other advances over the OMD-EM5iii, this camera would have been much better received. But instead they chose to release what amounts to me the OMD-EM5iv which was already in the works.

Very nice camera indeed. However, without a new sensor in the OM-5, the EM-1 mk3 seems like a better option, with dual card slots, usb-c, external charger, 4 custom functions on mode dial, larger battery (more shots), higher burst rate, higher EVF magnification, more ergonomic grip, ... and it's only €200 more expensive nowadays, and not that much larger/heavier than the OM-5. When I bought the OM1 (film) camera back in the 70's it wasn't because I couldn't afford the Nikon F, it because the Olympus was of a similar high quality in a smaller package. Having the capabilities of an EM1 mark 3 in the body of an EM5 I think is an admirable upgrade. Not everyone wants a larger camera body. I don't want my critique of the camera release to be understood as critique on your video. I think your insights are great and your long lasting impressions with the brand help see the positive in this release. It's helpful to see you talk about the camera when trying to understand why they did what they did - and in this it's a great video! At the same time, I can't see the appeal in this camera. We could again talk about how gear is not everything and how hold things don't become worse just because newer, better things exist, but this camera simply feels off. The first issue I have is with the price tag for what we get here. The OM-5 sounds more like a mid-range model between the lower line OM-10 we might see and the top shelf OM-1. But for that target group, the price feels a bit high - especially compared to a lot of the competition at this price point. Of course, a price can only be "too high" if the delivered features are not enough for what you pay and sadly, all the small, nice and indeed very good upgrades here don't reflect the prive to me. Compared to the E-M5 you gain so little that is not a specific software feature that paying the additional cost of about 300€ (in my region) compared to this newer body simply is hard to justify. The lacking new hardware, outside of the processor, is simply a cherry on top for people not considering to upgrade. The old sensor, no USB-C and even the old menus are all things that could have been changed especially with the new processor. Looking at the USB situation in 2022 makes me sad how "inconsiderate" this body is to the user and having the old menus simply make it feel like a neglected, overlooked development. Why isn't there support for those non-cost measures when we do have the better processor? I hear people say "the old USB port shouldn't be a problem for photography as it has no direct impact on how good the camera is", but it supports my point of a lot of features feeling like compulsive oversights - and so does the old menu. My other gripes are with the video features. I know we shouldn't expect them to deliver the same features like the OM-1, but having only 8bit video at this price point can't hold up to the competition. It also makes no sense since we do have more computing power now and the codec already exists. A lot comes down to the old sensor, which is still a very capable piece of tech, but sadly also quite outdated, especially when looking at the asked price. I guess sourcing a new one might have exploded the cost even more and isn't feasible at this point for OM-System, but it hinders the progress we could have expected. Price for it being still the biggest issue and less the quality of the sensor. I guess time will tell how good this model will resonate with the customers. I'm sure there's people that like it and I'm happy for them. I can also see that it's important to OM-Systems to finally have an OM-5 in their line with their name on it - even if that means mostly copying what already existed. Seeing this camera as a rebrand to fill the hole in the marketing line up makes me feel better about it, rather than expecting it to be the same kind of upgrade the OM-1 was. I just have a hard time seeing all the good when the competition, even from the own Olympus line, is so strong. So to give a TL:DR: Great video, good points and much appreciated information! On the other side, a questionable, yet understandable release with a disappointing price point and physical feature set. If someone needs the specific upgrades in software, more power to them - great camera. For everything else, it's feeling like a really tiny step - even if it's in the right direction.

From my point of view as an EM5iii user, I already got the better AF, processor, HDR, better IBIS, when I upgraded from my EM10 so I will be sticking to the EM5iii for now. I guess the days of us buying a new body every few years is over. But I think for anyone looking to come to MFT, the OM-5 has a lot to recommend it. People will bitch about the ‘plastic’ body, ‘small batteries’, the sensor not being upgraded but the performance difference would,be marginal and in fact the IQ from the EM5iii is already good.

I considered to upgrade from my E-M10ii mainly because of better AF (phase AF) and wheather sealing but the package doesn't really match for me. Micro-USB on a new camera is a NO GO. The old sensor and old menue is also an disappointment for me. Please don't misunderstand me. I don't want more megapixels. What about the video length? Is it restricted? I think I will stay with my old E-M10ii. I am happy with it. Perhaps the next generation fits for me better.

The lack of USB-C is a major problem. Seriously, it's such a big deal that the EU has made it compulsory for most electronic devices going forward. You say it's not a big deal since they include a cable for the obsolete port. But it is a big deal that you can't just borrow a charger if you take more photos at a child's birthday party than you expected. Fairly soon in this cameras life, none of your friends will have the right cable. Fewer and fewer stores will sell the cable. You should not consider this camera if you don't carry extra batteries. In fact, you shouldn't consider this camera until you can buy it at clearance pricing.

OM-5 menu system. I have an EM10m4. If I get the new OM-5, I would keep my EM10 as an alternate camera. So I would consider having the same (or similar) menu system on both cameras to be a feature, not a drawback. I think the same would apply to many owners of prior Olympus gear.
@ForsgardPeter

That is most likely the reason they used the older menu. It is more familiar to users that come from OM-10 Mark IV and E-5 older models.

OM did minor upgrades and relaunched the EM5 III as a new camera. It is a bit concerning to see you go to such lengths to justify this camera. Some of the added benefits could have been added through firmware to the EM5 III perhaps?

If you only have one m43 body this would be a pretty good choice. I suspect though, a good number of us already own an E-m1 series body or an OM-1 and this would serve as a back up body, a travel body or just kicking around when you don't want to carry the larger body. If I'm planing on doing some "serious" photography (landscape or birding) I'm bringing the bigger body. Bottom line, for my use case, this new body offers very little to make it worth the extra money over an E-M5 II or III. Just my opinion. Saved myself some money too!

Peter, why mention USB charging in 2022? It is a standard feature of cameras now. In 2015 my old GX80 had USB charging! In 2019 when the E-M5 III was released it was already late to the party. Why only Micro-USB? Even in 2019 that was old. I think they had a lot of E-M5 III bodies in the warehouse and decided to use them up ☹️

I think the main reason is that they decided to go with the same body. I think micro-USB is really a minor thing. Would have USB-C been better, of course. It is faster and becoming a standard in a few years. I think USB charging was worth mentioning because the camera cannot be used when charging.

Interesting move by OMDS. Having a light weight camera in the system is perfect, though the improvements over the EM5.3 are straight out of the EM1.3 parts bin. Looks like the weight is identical to the EM5.3, so I am assuming the same high quality resin outer body as the EM5.3 (with the possibility of the tripod socket failing if used with Peak Design capture clip). Also they should of used a USB connector and incorporated a joy stick. I am glad I upgraded my original EM1 to a as new EM1.3 just a couple of weeks ago, less expensive than the OM5, more capable field camera.

I think you likely made a really good move. I got an EM5 Mk iii this morning. If I'd had a little more cash I would have gone for the EM1 Mark ii though I do like the small form factor of the EM10 ii so the EM5 iii was a natural upgrade especially with a warranty while it can still be had new.

Oh, boy. This is not the camera people expected and not an upgrade for E-M5/E-M1 users. If OMD would just improve the EVF and use a newer sensor, then OM-5 would be a big hit. Unfortunately the chance to make a succesfull camera is wasted.

Thanks for the review Peter! I waited for this camera to be announced before I bought a second OM-1. My problem is two fold. One, did they fix the tripod socket? There were a lot of accounts that related damage to that area. Also I had the E-M5 mark III and just couldn’t get used to the view finder. I really didn’t like it. Here are my reasons for buying another OM-1 rather than this camera. 1. Menu system 2. Same battery 3. View finder 4. Better build Here are some reasons I would love to have an OM-5. 1. Smaller 2. Lighter The trade offs for me point strongly to the OM-1. Also for me, this new camera is for travel, and having on me when I’m just walking around. So I need a SMALL lens to mount on it. Something like the Panasonic 12-35, which is a great little lens and makes this camera MUCH more portable. I am a little surprised that OM Systems didn’t introduce a nice little lens to go with this camera to compliment the small size. I give kudos to OM-Systems for doing this and am glad to see them coming out with new cameras and lenses. And thanks for the review!

Thanks for pointing out the custom modes. Actually I had returned the OM-D EM10 Mark IV because of it's limitations despite it's good grip and display. Also the OM-D EM5 Mark III did not convince me, when I had it in my hands last Saturday. I didn't like the display not being able to be tilted downwards from the back of the camera. It also lacked the custom modes I need for event photography and filming, in order to switch between different settings quickly. I do not understand why they cut back so many of the good features they had in earlier cameras like the Stylus 1s. Since the above mentioned cameras do not fully meet my needs, I have ordered a OM-D EM10 Mark II second hand for the time being. I am looking forward to test it. I was in hope the OM-5 might come up with some good new features such as a better touch display, a newer grip with better ergonomics as the introduced with the EM10 Mark IV and perhaps a USB-C socket with the capability to charge while using the camera. When I compared the technical specifications of the new OM-5 with those of the EM5 Mark III, I could only see very few updates, most of which could possibly also be implemented via an ordinary firmware update. What a disappointment! They have even cut back on the external BCS-5 charger (which is not included anymore). Well, I might take a look at the OM-5 too, when my local store will have it available but for now I shall become more familiar with the differences between the Stylus 1s and the EM10 Mark II.

Hello Peter. New to using camera and just bought my OM-5. I tried recording videos but I feel like it is not true to actual colours (looks grey and dull) and movement made the videos difficult to watch as they are not stabilized. Do you have any ideas on how do I fix that? Thank you.
@ForsgardPeter
@ForsgardPeter Ай бұрын
Have you checked what picture mode you have? Flat profile is grey and dull. With a flat profile the camera records more dynamic range. It will be alive after color grading. Check also that you had the stabilizer on. OM-5 has a very good stabilizer and the footage will look nice and smooth.

For me this new "middle class" Olympus makes a lot of sense. It's the OM-D E-M1iii in the body of an E-M5 plus some extras. First, I was disappointed not to see the new sensor inside. However, then the price would have been much higher and too much competition with the OM-1 I'll not buy it, as I have the OM-1 and using OM-D E-M1ii as a backup
