My people suffered a thousand times worse fate by the hands of the Ottoman Turks when 1.5 million of my compatriots were genocided in a year in the Syrian deserts, but they kept their dignity and never committed such evil acts. Just a few months ago 150k of my compatriots got ethnically cleansed from their homeland by Azeri Turks in a single day, yet we never committed such an evil act. And I bet none of you even heard about these events. So please stop trying to justify the extreme hatred that Palestinians have against Jews.

I do know about Wael and his story, his son hamza. I have to admit, no I didn’t think about Palestine before Oct 7th, I knew there was troubles, wars over there I did try understand what was going on back in 2014. Maybe I was a different person but I came away thinking “ok it’s just the same as the England /Ireland struggle. It got through this time. Although it was the Oct 7 that sparked it in me and yes I was crying for what happened Israel I learned very quick what is really happening. I haven’t stopped learning since. I’m sorry, I didn’t give the Palestinians the time they deserve, but I’ll never stop speaking up now.

the problem with Suleiman is that he is a Radical Islamist whose ultimate goal is a global Caliphate they generally argue in bad faith, every action a calculated strategy on how to expand the Caliphate at the expense of Western Civilization he of course has the right to discuss Palestine, being a Palestinian - but you have to understand who this dude is he of course isn't even-handed toward Hamas or the problems they cause, the fact they don't recognize Israel's right to exist and wants the entire territory from the "river to the sea" dude straight up a taqiyya propagandist like Mehdi Hasan lying straight to your face

Thank you for listening to our struggles across the United States and even in Palestine. I’m a second generation Palestinian so I still hear stories from the things my mom had gone through as a child to her teens until she had got married and moved to United States I’m glad I’m here. I love this country and I’ll do anything for it but sometimes I feel like I’m a second class citizen in United States, something my mother went through in Palestine. Do you understand why our struggle is real and I’m always in fear not for me but for my mother since she wears a hijab.

The nature of Islam? You think this nice gentle guy speaks for all 2 billion? That's quite an overgeneralisation in the name of not being phobic. Ironic. We've arrived at the Far Left who are supposed to be militant atheists and for LGBT rights, supporting Hamas Hezbollah and Houthis whom murder LGBT in the name of their holy texts. Admittedly not all of Islam is terrible and they are tarred by terrorists. Just like the West is tarred by Israel's excessive response. Still, did you know some Muslims consider Hamas and other Iranian proxy terrorist groups "haram" for murdering innocents? INCLUDING PALESTINIANS.

@@acmb6763I think this is half correct. Omar wasn't wrong about apathy, and Americans while sure, can be ignorant and misinformed, are increasingly apathetic to not only global issues or issues afar, but also those here at home. Still I think ignorance and misinformation is a scapegoat many use to blame the fact that they will not do what is needed to truly tackle issues that require a great amount of work and sacrifice to even nudge in the right direction. We willingly accept the massive gun voilence here, child homelessness, weaponized poverty, religious extremism, class elitism, and nationalized racial supremacy movements, not just from whites either. Why? My guess is that the price to get that changed has become so steep that almost all of us are unwilling to pay the actual price... Quit working? Leave your homes? Risk starvation or even death from months of protesting? Most of what we would like to change most have truly unfathomable walls we would need to tear down and reform... And when we've tried, we've failed. To do that for the Palestinians? That's just not going to happen here sadly even if it should. There's no way we have enough people to topple the wall of american geopolitical alliances and agreements, we'd need to reform our goverment and void all treaties we have. All of them, and start fresh with the new American direction that isn't rooted in imperialism and exploitation... We'd need to reform the very identy of a profit based capatilist system where human cost isn't at a lesser level of importance as financial cost or the lesser evil mentality we use to justify our lack of empathy. The hippie movement and the Vietnam protests? LA Riots? Occupy Wallstreet? Black lives matter? Did any of that bring about true change? Could anyone say the people won with those movements? Shit even the feminist movements changes are being reversed, and that was one of our more successful movements in our history. Pessimism, Apathy... Sure is a part of it, but to expect the america citizens to do something? The 48% of us in poverty? Working paycheck to paycheck just to survive? The single mothers and fathers working multiple jobs? Yes, we do not have oppression here like some of the worse off areas in the world, but oppression is oppression. In the land of the free, you can also be freely oppressed by those with more power. Just because a wage is being paid, does not mean most americans are not wage slaves to systems and elites. Sorry for the essay, but you seemed like the type to at appreciate a well thought out response. And to any none American reading this, I am truly sorry and ashamed. I hope someday we learn freedom is worth nothing if we don't use it to free others into a world that is loving and kind, not bitter and destroyed. TLDR: America is so fucked we hardly have any empathy and compassion for each other, America is not the America we put on display in our media. There is no help here... May the light protect you my Palestinian friends, in this life or the next.

The reason is that science is just about knowledge, about truth ... while political actors always have an agenda, as do businessmen. He just opens his platform to everyone and invites them to say whatever they want. With a scientist or engineer, you get their view of the truth, with political actors or business people you can their spin. In this particular interview, not a single word about what Hamas has done on Oct 7th. I am assuming everything Suleiman said is 100% true ... but so much was unsaid about the horrors of Hamas. When Lex interviewed Netanyahu, it was the exact same, total spin from the opposite side. Same when he interviewed business people, we allowed them total spin, unchecked and untempered. With interviews on science or technology, it was brilliant. But Lex's format just doesn't work with people that have an agenda, you need to approach this as a journalist.

@@md.muzahidulislamsamrat8037 The West won through a marketplace of ideas and a capitalistic system that properly aligned human behavior with economic growth. The Middle East's entire history is violence; while the West isn't entirely without blame, the fact that Islam is a "conquesting/colonizing" religion whose goal is a Global Caliphate and its strict religious purity of stone age ideals doesn't help (look at the Taliban and their proud reversion to Orthodoxy). Christianity and Judaism had secular reformations, the type that are not possible in Islam due to its strict enforcement of Islamic orthodoxy, aggression toward ex-Muslims and various sects infighting over squabbles of, again, Orthodoxy/purity (Sunni vs Shia, and even subsects within those) and on and on. History speaks for itself. Iran was on track to be a top 5 economy -- now it's basically tied with Iraq in GDP under the IRGC after the secular Shah was overthrown. Saudi is moving toward secularism and so is rising as a global power. The key to governance is, obviously, separation of church and state (also something the West realized).

I recommend you to read up on the history of Amin al-Husseini before realising no side was truly perfect and good. In addition to that, the present day land of Jordan (4 times larger than Israel) was part of the British Mandate of Palestine for a good number of those years. I agree media can be biased but it goes both ways in respect to this war. Certain Gaza "journalists" have been reported to be affiliated with Hamas and by journalists they could be ordinary people with social media following rather than one that does journalism as a career.

If Palestinians truly feel this way, then why does a Palestinian state require an army? If the Palestinians have no intention of using that army against the Israelis, and they truly intend to live with no fear of the future, then why do they need an army? If you say that they need the ability to protect themselves then you're admitting that they want a sense of security as a hedge against anyone coming to harm them in the future yet you act like Israel shouldn't have that concern? Over the course of the last century the Palestinians have led at least three distinct attempts to genocide the Jewish people, so why isn't it reasonable for Israel to anticipate a future attempt of that nature, particularly after the level of depravity exhibited on October 7th?

Thank you for having this conversation, for creating space for Dr Suleiman to speak in the way you did, and for probing into contentious regions with enduring respect and care. This is a deeply complex issue that has been making me feel ridiculously small and ignorant for a very long time, so I'll be the first to say I know nothing, but I do believe that honouring the humanity of the people in the centre of it all is essential to figuring out any potential solution - both in terms of protecting them in all ways possible, and understanding that humans will react in certain ways to the suffering they have endured, and that can't be extracted from consideration. Humanity, for better and worse, is intrinsic to this problem, yet so commonly sideswiped in the rhetoric. I worry that the people who most need to listen to this will refuse to, but am hopeful that converations like this will filter through our collective consciousness and move the needle in humanity's favour.

@@jauharshahbaz it may not have been complex once, but it seems to me an obvious transgression, based upon a lie, was doubled down on over and over again, to the point that there are now millions of incredibly damaged, desperate people. The damage can't be undone. The tremendous fear and chaos it instilled can't be walked back now. Equally, the structures that have been built upon it can't be carpet-bombed without consequence. So, logistically, how to actually move forward looks very complicated to me. But everything I know is second hand. I'm not from the US, but I've certainly been exposed to US opinions.

I can divide the interview into "Palestinian concerns" and "Islam". On the first part, what strikes me most is Omar's lack of bigotry, his sincerity, the simplicity of the answers he gives - one need not be sophisticated to understand his point. On the second part, I find his notion "the life of a single person being more important than any place of worship" (paraphrased) radical to my conception of islam. Lex question to him concerning criticisms on Islam being a violent religion was not satisfactory at least to a non muslim who basically observes, he kind of said, "look man, the Quran says otherwise", I woud have prefer a counter intuitive response to that because we see something different. Nevertheless, thanks for coming out to let us hear the other side of the story, I've never believed legacy media 100%, I knew something was missing. I have faith that peace would be brought to Palestine, I hope for a ceasefire and my love is not wanting.

I think they're way too far apart on the basic facts of the Israel-Palestine conflict to have a meaningful debate. Like Omar literally doesn't think there can be a legitimate Israeli state and Ben thinks the Israeli state can do no wrong. It would probably look a little bit like Destiny's debate with Omar Baddar except less productive.

@@user-fn5bd2ps3zwell his views you can see through. He can’t be 100% objective. You can spot it especially with his (typical for Russian people) obsession with Putin. Tbh - there is nothing new, nothing interesting or fascinating in Putin’s behaviour. If you can understand the mob/mafia way of thinking - you can understand modern Russia and Putin. Russia is the only country in the world completely controlled by ex and current secret services. So it works like mafia state.

What about the rejection of UN partition plan by the Palestinians and choosing to destroy Israel instead of creating and devloping their own country؟ Israel uses excessive force but is a legitimate UN member state. Also، there was never a sovereign country of Palestine before the UN Partition plan as it was a British mandate and used to be ottoman territory before that. I'm not against Palestinian people and I believe they should have a state. But they need to accept the Basic reality that Israel exists and is one of the strongest countries in the world so it's not going anywhere.

I agree with M. Soleiman with regards to the present Israeli government and it's policies on legalising settlements on Palestinian land. That is occupation. However, my question is why can't you go to Gaza and help? You would be allowed to enter through the Egyptian border! And why aren't the Palestinians invited to the Abraham accords ? Could it be because no ethical sovereign country wants to deal with Hamas? Why isn't there a representative of the opposition in exile, claiming to attend on behalf of his people? Why haven't the Arab League of nations intervened before? And if they couldn't before 07/10, they could have put pressure on Hamas and Quatar to release the hostages against an immediate ceasefire. No one talks about the 1200 people who were slaughtered on the 7th and no mainstream media I have seen even mentiones the hostages. They were mentioned once or twice and that was it. Yes the Israeli response is disproportionate; so should they have gone into Gaza and raped, maimed and killed 1201 Palestinians only? I believe the Muslims should explain the difference between the freedom fighters such as the PLO and their highjacking of planes and Hamas who hide behind their 'people'. Somewhere, vsomething has got to give. Hamas must go, Nathanyu must go and a neutral party such as Norway or Switzerland along with Bahrain must negotiate for the Palestinian rights and for aisrael's right of existance...

Very good interview. Which supports what I've been saying for a long time: When the standards of greatness or 'righteousness' have to be measured by who's committed the least amount of atrocities, I think we're already in some pretty deep [you know what], don't you? Another well made point was acknowledging the fact that October 7th was not the first day in the entire history of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, as most Westernized media has framed it to be. The interview allowed critical discussions and observations that are rarely presented in the Westernized, Americanized and Zionized media. Thanks again!
