As Israel’s war on Gaza continues, killing more than 33,000 people, numerous scholars and politicians have voiced concern and condemned Israel’s policies and actions.
Among those critics is Norman Finkelstein, a staunch advocate for Palestinian freedom and one of the foremost historians on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, himself a son of Holocaust survivors.
This week on UpFront, Norman Finkelstein shares his insights on Israel’s war on Gaza and responds to some of the controversies surrounding him in an interview with Marc Lamont Hill.

I believe it is too late to save Israel. Try talking to any IDF vet and they will tell you the army is now made up of mostly extremist kids of the illegal settlers from west bank. There has never been a palestinian people. If there were than Jews who also lived there - just as Arabs - are also palestinians. The Philistines were an Aegean people - related to the Greeks and with no connection ethnically, linguistically, or historically at all with Arabia - they conquered the Mediterranean coastal plain that is now Gaza in the 12th Century BCE. Israel defeated the Philistines back then and drove them out of Gaza. The name Palestine was much later given to Israel by Roman Emperor Hadrian, who's occupation was responsible for several decrees that sought to crush the National identity and religious spirit of the Jews some time after Roman Emperor Titus smashed the Israeli resistance in the year 70. So ask yourself: where is the evidence that proves that there was an ancient palestinian State? Where are the old scroll that describes its history - in it mentioned old Kings, old Rulers, old Governments and Government buildings - where are the old cities, old coins, old ruins, old roads, old harbors ??? THEY CAN’T SHOW ANY OF THESE MENTIONED ARTIFACTS ! Israel on the other hand CAN show MILLIONS of mentioned history and artifacts that PROVE they belong there. It is islam that doesn't tolerate any other religion which is the root of all conflict. We are waiting for the return of Lord Yeshua / Jesus to bring about peace.

The massacres were many on Palestinians and we were told the occupier needed to defend itself. We were told they were the chosen ones, we were told that they had a right to return 1900 years later. We were told the Arabs were the bad guys, we were told they posed a huge threat in 1967, but who was the aggressor? There was a recent one he did in a poetry cafe with Krystal Ball as moderator. It had me in tears. I watched the livestream but cannot seem to find it uploaded on YT. The man is simply brilliant. His morality leaves one in complete and utter awe. To add to the voices of others on this video, may Dr Norman Finkelstein live long enough to see Palestine free. I would add the same wish for Prof Ilan Pappè, Prof Avi Shlaim, Gideon Levy and others. The Palestinians are a blessed people to have these honourable men in their corner.
