Currently a Fujifilm X-T10 owner and had a quick hands-on on the new X-S10 at the Fujifilm store in my country. I've found another huge negative - No physical switch in front to change between Auto Focus and Manual Focus modes. It's buried deep in the menus to switch the focus modes. Huge bummer if you want Manual Focus on the fly... I've owned both Fuji lenses and old adapted manual vintage lenses.

Great video! My X-T cameras story so far: Loved my X-T1 until I broke it. Then I got an X-T20. The image quality is just as phenomenal, but I wear glasses and the viewfinder feels like it's half the size of the X-T1. I can only see about 60% of what I'm shooting. And the feel is also noticeably cheaper. The buttons and dials feel plasticky and loose compared to the X-T1. I was going to get the XS-10 until I found out that it has a similar viewfinder as the X-TX0 cameras. So I bought a barely used X-T3 for $850 and it's awesome! I'll be happy to get an X-T4 used when it drops below $1k I guess for the IBIS? Not sure how much it's needed since I shoot photography 99% of the time.
@thatericguy14 жыл бұрын
that viewfinder is the main negative about my x-t20 (also a glasses wearer). I would love to have the X-T3 (or 4) for that reason, but no real need to change at this point. Happy with image quality and camera size of the x-120.

Theres a big learning curve... Thats an understatement of the year... I came from a canon 60d. It took me 1-2 days to understand that thing and set it up. It took me almost a week to figure out how shoot this thing in manual according to how I wanted it to behave... This camera features are insane though, if you want to the camera can help you focus on your dog's butt by highlighting it red. But to get it on, you need to go through tens of menu options and a bunch of them in focusing menu. Yes, this camera is so detailed that it has its own focus menu.

Hey there, really like your channel. I have been watching for quite a while, in hopes of someday getting a Fujifilm camera... the X-T2, 3, 4... and then the X-T30 came along and I almost got one. I currently have a Pentax DSLR. Third parties seem to not be doing as many lenses for Pentax these days, and their innovation seems to come at a snail pace. I got the Pentax years ago, as I had 35mm film lenses that would work with it, it was weather sealed, IBIS, etc...and features for a low price was a pretty good bargain. I really like the dial setup on the X-T3, X-T4 ... but I think I could learn to work with this X-S10 just fine, I'd be learning a new camera system either way. I like that any Fujifilm will be a good bit smaller than my Pentax. I do like the articulating screen, and the more substantial grip. I will be doing "general" photography, of all sorts of things, as well as video(hopefully to start a KZbin channel). For someone who really wanted an X-T4 or cheaper X-T30, do you think THIS camera is a great place to start into the Fujifilm camera world? The only real downsides I see is maybe the shorter battery life, and the electronic viewfinder. I think I can work with that given the price, more substantial grip, and given that ANY Fujifilm camera will seem lightyears ahead of my Pentax in basically every way imaginable. Please let me know what you think, and thanks so much for your great videos!

I was against this camera at first but the more I think about it the more I think it might be good to swap out for my main camera the X-T30. My main gripe or disappointment is the way the screen adjusts. I love having the screen flip directly down so I can not only take images near the ground, but it's very stealthy. If the screen has to swing all the way to the side before I can then tilt it up, it's pretty obvious that I'm taking a picture. With my X-T30 it just looks like I'm staring at the dials on the top of my camera and no one really pays attention to me.

I usually only buy cameras once they have been out for a couple of years (hence why I'm responding to a 2 year old video). I have an xt3 and an x100v in my fujifim line up, both make great video footage, but only if you put them on a tripod. I wanted something with stabilisation and flippy screen. So I purchased one in pretty good condition for a reasonable price. My first thoughts were that it's amazing. First off I was surprised how much I love the deep grip. The EVF was a little underwhelming, but as I'm using it for video I can live with that. All the dials and controls are much better for video than the X and T series dials(which I do prefer for photography). The stabilisation works great, flippy screen great, compact size great, footage great,microphone port perfect, autofocus is no Sony, but it's good enough . Everything about using this for a video camera was perfect for my needs. It just has one downside, and it's rather a large one, when you have stabilisation on and you're recording Video, those little batteries just aren't big enough. It's particularly annoying having to carry loads of spare batteries and a charger with you. With that deep grip there was surely room to fit the bigger new battery somewhere! So close Fuji, so close!

I really appreciate your comparing these two cameras. I’ve been attracted by the price drop on the X-T3; I love its “retro styling,” robust build, weather sealing and better EVF. But a couple of my friends are, like, “ooo, with the X-S10 you get IBIS!” ... which I’m unsure/confused about. (Don’t most of the LENSES have stabilization?!) Listening to your comparison, and hearing more about the two cameras’ relative strengths, helped me see IBIS is more a video advantage. But, I’m far more a stills shooter, and would probably never miss IBIS. I’m now confident the X-T3 is my best choice.
@Propaganda_Films3 жыл бұрын
IBIS is not that much dramatic even in video shooting. Well, during static and ninja walk shots somewhat beneficial, but not near Olympus IBIS or gimbal shots. IBIS, seem to me, more beneficial for shooting photos. Hand held low light photography with slow shutter speed and low ISO is ultimately where IBIS really shines, I think. But again, it really depends on what people are looking for. Weather seal, IBIS, compactness, light weight, full metal body, bigger/longer battery and etc. The list goes on. There is no one perfect camera. I ended up getting X-T4 and X-S10. X-T4 was little too bulky and heavy for daily carry, but I like more visible manual controls and weather sealed body. X-S10 is much lighter, compact but not weather sealed with shorter battery life. So depends on what I feel like and condition of the day, I pick between two cameras.

The best lens stabilization is only half as good as the worst IBIS. That said, the X-S10 doesn't have the best, nor the worst, IBIS. (The Sony A7C has the worst, and the X-T4 has the best, maybe tied with Panasonic)

I personally think this camera is towards casual photographers more than travelers. Phone’s camera nowadays is really really good and they carry with them everywhere so it’s hard for them to target travelers.

Totally agree. It's for those who want an x-t4 but can't afford one or folks who want to change settings like a typical dslr. I have an x-t4, but I'm considering getting this for a more casual camera.

The pros you mentioned are the reasons I am excited and preordered. This was what I have been waiting for in a travel camera. A canon m50 like camera that had ibis and higher quality. So excited to use for travel and perfect compliment to my xt2.

If it's the same on/off switch as the one on the XH1 (and it does look like it) you would get used to it. Because when I've borrowed an XT3 from Fujifilm to try I hated it's on/off switch kinda like how you mentioned your dislike for this one. And it's because I own the XH1 and that's my main camera. So this camera's design to me looks MUCH more like something I'd buy as a second camera for use with my XH1 on assignments since the shutter button/grip/AFon buttons are nearly identical to my XH1. I'm considering what camera to get as a second camera and I'm not really feeling like getting the XT-line because they have a much small button/grip/on-off switch and I HATE the position of the AF-on button since I only use back button focus and the layout of that button in relationship to the shutter button makes ZERO sense to me. The AF-on/shutter design relationship on the XH1 feels so much better when I'm shooting than the XT's do. It's all in what you get used to shooting with as you eluded to in the video.

Omar…I’ve just bought one…slight delay I know but it’s in its way! Thanks for the excellent review which has helped my decision making. I’ve owned xt2 twice times over and love the retro style. However I need a bigger grip and to be pocketable! Xs-10 is still old skool looking enough for me!

The menu is really a steep learning curve for a newby. I'm the grannie who got this camera over a year ago to take pictures of my family gatherings and grandchildren's sports games. I'm still struggling with the settings, etc.

I am really confused on X-S10 or X-T30 ii or T3. It is getting so complicated :( I want it as good upgrade to my webcamera for streaming + a camera to make videos at home for YT. Also to walk around and make videos/photos, so being stable is good. Problem is that I am not pro on setting up a camera but I a don't want to change it within the next year cause it won't be enough for me. I want to vlog on 1080 and 4K. I hear that X-S10 overheats a lot at 4K videos :(

It has a lot going for it . Whilst those of us who who understand the set up or came from film cameras , then this will still provide an excellent introduction to Fujifilm . So, you like the new guy on the block : great . It may not be every bodies go to camera, but that was not the point you were making. Fuji have put a lot of thought in to this little gem ; but we all need to remember is that there is no perfect camera and that is a good thing in my opinion . Thanks for an interesting insight to this little guy.

One should always buy an X-T20 first. It leads to photography passion and it has superb nostalgic factors. Then, well, then comes the choice between, pro, amateur, more video focused, more photo focused, etc. In the end, after the X-T20, any other will do)).

There's no right way to approach photography and videography. It's totally dependant on the individual.

As someone who hasn't been in the game since my SLR in 2010, I'm wanting to get back into the hobby for nature, flowers, landscape, and some video of animals and a VLOG for my illnesses. I am stuck between X-T20, this camera, and the X-T3. After all the research and watching videos I am looking for a X-T20 and a 23 F2 and maybe the 18-55 lens? I'm guess the best way to go is get the cheaper body and a couple good lenses. when I get better upgrade the body, and already have good lenses? I like the XT30 but like you , want the D pad and not the joystick..

Which one do you recommend for street photography: X-T3, X-T4, X-Pro3 or X-S10? (I don’t shoot video)

Hey Omar if you can would you be kind to tell us how did you find Battery life on the X-s10 compared to the Xt-3 or even the xt-30 on the short time you had it. Thanks in advance

It says on Fuji’s website that it can shoot h.265, so maybe it’s just because you had a pre-production model? Same with the on-off switch, I hope! I’ve preordered the X-S10 and it’ll be my first Fuji camera, coming from a Panasonic Lumix G7.

I'm new to the Fuji ecosystem (X-osystem?) and picking a camera is confusing. There's not a linear progression of good/better/best, and figuring out which one is right is not often easy, not often kind. But what made me finally decide was the price I was able to snag an X-A7 (used) for. While perhaps not my ideal camera, it makes a great entry point, and as I learn that menu system you talk about, it will be easier to get further in as other bargains become available. But, I do love the results I'm getting, and I recommend anybody thinking about Fuji to do it any way they can.

Great review (as always). Uses 126 batteries is not a trade-off. It’s a bonus. Who wants to buy new batteries?. But a serious trade off is no weather sealing (which you forgot to mention😀). I love my X-H1 because of the grip and form factor. But it is big. So might get the SX-10 based on your excellent review. Stabilisation on stabilised zooms looks worrying.....

I have an xt30 and starting to take video a little more serious, but also take a lot of stills. Do you think the screen, the grip, the ibis, record limits, full size mic jack, Recording speeds and other little improvements is worth selling the xt30 and getting the xs10? I know I’ll miss the retro feel and dials but the improvements seem more important than the aesthetics. I would love to get the xt4 but it’s a is bit out of the budget.

It remembers me a lot of the Sony a6600 with the mode dial. I think, one great thing could be the in total three dials which can programmed(?). I personally struggle with adjusting shutter speed on my a6400 with the back wheel. I often accidentally press the buttons integrated in the wheel while turning it. So with the front and back dial both accessible with the right hand and additionally an dial on the left which can be used for ISO, the XS10 really outperforms the a6600 to that account. But nobody wants that out-flippy screen ;-)

another great Omar vid. One of the things that drew me to Fuji was the styling and the film camera feel. But once i bought a used X-H1 for the ibis i really liked the grip. use this much more than my x-t3. (95% stills). so I think i'm all in on the x-s10 Only question is I don't see the M-C-S lever on the front. Must be a menu setting? I also don't mind bring extra batteries. you'd want to not matter what for just in case. Thanks again

I am strongly considering getting this camera, however I’m new to the camera world so I don’t know what lense to get with it. Also, I will shoot video mostly, so quality in film is my priority. My two options are the 18-55 F2.8-4 and the 16-80 F4. I have read that the 16-80mm has a wobble focus issue when zooming, which of the two lenses would you recommend getting (specifically for video shooting)? On amazon, this camera with the 18-55 its $1400 (with the 16-80 its $1500) so its only a $100 difference!!

What did lens did you get in the end? Are you happy with it? I'm ordering one, and will use similarly to what you've described.

It is a souped up X-T200 which I own. Hoping for an X-T40 with IBIS and classic dials. Time for a bigger EVF as well. Buy an X-T200 for half the price if you want a great deal, same dial layout, and same price as cheaper DSLRs, no IBIS and 24mp sensor only real difference. No big deal if you are a stills shooter and infrequent video shooter like me.

Mr Omar, I am planning to buy my first Fuji camera and switching from Nikon dx format gear. I am more into still photography (landscapes, portraits and street and occasionally videos as well). I am looking at XS 10 or XH 1 for my purpose. Since XS 10 is a newer camera and also have IBIS ( Though different than XH1) but isn't weather sealed and has a smaller body. The prices i am getting locally are almost same for XH1 with a grip with two additional batteries and that of XS 10 ( body only) May I request you to suggest me decide which one should I go for XH1 with VBG or XS 10. Thank you.
