People don't recognize that not everybody plays the game for the story. Or maybe they might like the story, but while they're playing the game it goes over their head because they're having fun enjoying the game. I usually just watch some lore recaps after I play an expansion, lmao. I pay attention, but don't read everything and sometimes I'm distracted and don't pick up on things.

Cinematic give no background knowledge. Background is to destroy the eternal tyranny of death, which treated mortals like cattle. If you look at RL, humans do 1000 times worse for 1000 times less. Overall, if you KNOW that an afterlife exists, death loses almost all meaning - while the conditions in that afterlife are the most important thing. That's what Sylvanas was all about, to fight for a much higher goal and even with the betrayel she reached a lot (and could by the way just have laughed her ass of and go with Zovaal, instead she gave up all her power and by that also her freedom to stay with her goal: eternal freedom for all mortals). That's the Shadowlands story, but of course the retarded crybabies are too stupid for something that obvious.
@miriamweller8124 ай бұрын
Sylvanas reason to burn the tree was that she needed a big stream of souls going to the afterlife (which is real in Warcraft) to have the energy to free a rebellious death god and change the tyrannic system of that afterlife, in which mortals are not much more than cattle. That's her goal. Didn't work out as planed, though she reached a lot.

Heya! Great reaction :) Gotta give you a little more information for understanding a bit of the lore to Saurfang. So at 44:35 you asked who these guys are. First of all: the orc you saw is Varok Saurfang, he's the General of the Horde and one of the main characters in lore. In Wrath of the Lich King, his son Dranosh Saurfang leaded an attack against Arthas, together with the Alliance General Bolvar Fordragon. Dranosh died as he wanted to strike down Arthas. Arthas claimed his soul with Frostmourne. Bolvar nearly died, but was saved from the flames of the red Dragonflight, after they got backstabbed by the Forsaken (Sylvanas followers, they hated both Horde/Alliance and also the Scourge so they attacked them all together in that scenario) Dranosh Saurfang was re-awakened by Arthas and was one of the Raid-Bosses in Icecrown Citadel. Varok Saurfang tried to convince Dranosh when the Icecrown Citadel got attacked, but his son's soul was lost, so he had to kill his own son. Varok also lost his wife much earlier in the lore, so he was alone and broken from the pain he had experienced in his life. His only reason to stay alive was the Horde, which got divided by Sylvanas in Battle for Azeroth. Varok betrayed her in order to re-unite the Horde. He also did it, but it cost him his life.

I mained a Night Elf my first time playing (2008). I still play now almost daily (and yes, only one game...forgive me but at 67 I'm lucky to play one and keep up with it, 20 years this year. Sylvanas burned Teldressil to start the war. She killed a lot of Elves, they didn't have time to evacuate everyone. You play that if you're alliance. They're now refugees. Saurfang is a major character in Battle for Azeroth, along with Jaina, Anduin, Thrall, and Sylvanas. It's a good expansion. Saurfang is the one of the oldest orcs, he's very honorable and believes the Horde should be as well. Sylvanas is ruining the Horde with this fight. She was Lord Ranger of the Blood Elves (she's blood elf). Arthas killed her, took her soul with the sword. He made her an undead Banshee. She managed to get away from his mind control and returned to her body. There's a BIG reason for her leaving. She's doing something else, for someone else. She didn't give a guano for the Horde in the end. She has a reason, it's stupid IMO, but it's a reason. Remember the words "she got played." Kin Varian Wrynn dies in Legion (and it's gruesome). Anduin is the King, that's why you need the armor, he's a pirest/paladin. His father was king, he died in Legion, and he's growing into his role, that's why the armor doesn't fit yet. By this expansion, The War Within, he's grown. It hurts to see him in the new cinematic. His PTSD is real. What Sylvanas did to him with the guy she's working for is criminal (yes, I am Alliance loyal.) But you will find out about her at the end of Shadowlands, there is something important happening. Anduin left after Shadowlands to try to come to grips with what he had done under mind control domination. They tortured him. And he needed the time. Thrall was the leader of the Horde. He's not a coward. He broke the Orcs out of the human concentration camps and freed them. He's a shaman, left the leadership to Garrosh Hellscream so he could save Azeroth. Garrosh is just about as bad as you can think. Thrall comes back to help, but he doesn't want to be leader again. He's a revered mentor, a great Shaman (if he can get his mojo back) and is a very good character. There are 3 new groups of people in TWW but only one is playable (I think). Sylvanas's sister Alleria Windrunner is a major player in this new expansion. She channels void energy.
@SimplyConeh4 ай бұрын
I'm just gonna drop in to point out that Sylvanas was not a Blood Elf (sin'dorei), but a High Elf (quel'dorei). When Arthas killed her and most of the quel'dorei died during the Third War, the remaining ones renamed themselves as sin'dorei in honor of the fallen. These events are cemented in the canonical rewriting of the Lament of the Highborne, which was originally written to honor fallen Night elves (kaldorei/highborne) after the Sundering (I'd assume). Sorry to be the "well actually" guy, but I think there are such great lore and interplay to be found in such specific details and the song is an amazing addition. I'm also guessing you probably know about it already and you were just making it palatable for non-esoteric wow nerds :P
@charlayned4 ай бұрын
@@SimplyConeh Thank you for the correction. I've read some of the lore, still working on reading it. I remember reading Sylvanas's book but evidently I didn't pay super attention (going back again soon). @@charlayned That sounds exciting about reunification, I can't imagine it going over super well considering certain differences in culture - specifically about magic. For some lore: Night elves evolved from trolls, near a big power source adapting them to the moon, thus came night elves. high elves derived from night elves after they formed a sun based power source, and blood elves got green eyes after they relied on demonic magic, after losing the sun based power source, thats why there are now "white elves" Illidan was a bad guy in tbc, because he raised dark and treacherous armies to face a greater threat that the player found out about in legion, meaning we team up with him after his inprisonment. The big fire dragon, deathwing, also known as Neltharian, black dragon aspect of earth, became so powerful due to old god corruption and has elementium(metal) plates seared to his skin to prevent himself from bursting open from the sheer power he had. For warlords of draenor, garrosh, an orc descending from grommash hellscream forced a bronze dragon to take him back in time before the orcs drank the blood of the demon that appeared(cursed them to servitude to demons) and stopped them from drinking it, as well as bringing schematics for weapons to this timeline. Since warcraft 3, the high elf sylvanas windrunner was killed and raised in undeath. during a point in warcraft 3, the lich king/arthas lost their dominion over them, and sylvanas became the factional leader of the undead for the horde. Thrall was the leader of the horde, but during cataclysm he left as a world shaman to save the elements, leaving garrosh hellscream in charge of the horde, truly the best warchief whom did nothing wrong. That last lich king scene wasnt arthas. Arthas died at wrath of the lich king, but there must always be a lich king, else the undead roam uncontrolled, so Bolvar fordragon took the burden for himself to suffer, becoming the new lich king. During shadowlands, anduin got mind controlled of sorts, and committed heinous crimes. His priesty/paladin'y magic no longer answers him after that. He is just a warrior now. Now i've left out the biggest details of this, as that'd make this thread of text so long, i might as well write a book. Kept it simple.

Timelines can get forked off of the original. In a quest in current expansion, while working with the Bronze Dragonflight (the one that deals with timeways and timelines) a stray murloc (humanoid frogs) runs into a time portal before it could be stopped. An entire new timeline, populated with lots & lots of murlocs, results. Think Deathwing, only as a giant dragon-murloc thing.

Warcraft had time travel WAY before Warlords of Draenor and before that expansion it was actually a good thing. This was just the first time that it influenced an entire expansion, and a lot of WoWheads don't realize that it was an excuse for OG Warcraft fans to see Draenor as it kind of was in Warcraft 2 but from the perspective of WoW. WoD is very misunderstood because they PULLED OUT on it...they didn't commit to a bunch of shit they were going to put in. There's an obnoxious system called Garrisons that people get angry about when they hear it mentioned but before the beta the expansion and that system were planned to be totally different, them pulling the plug on Warlords is why it is remembered as the worst expansion, though that spot now could be a toss up between BFA, Shadowlands or DF depending on who you ask. Whether people like to remember it or not the whole fucking thing started with orcs invading the human world and those two races were the main ones in the first 1994 game. Every game after just trickled in more races. So it was cool to see a fresh iteration of how that history started but have it be altered in a way that didn't change the history but created a pocket dimension of sorts. WoD takes place AFTER MoP and before Legion, it is BECAUSE the alternate reality Gul'dan escapes that the Legion gets summoned at it's full strength in the next expansion hence it's name. High elves evolved after being exiled from Kalimdor after the continents broke up when their dumbass queen tried to summon Sargeras into Azeroth and sided with the Burning Legion. The rest of their society kind of decided arcane magic couldn't be trusted. If you're remembering night elves having mages that's because they got the option after Cataclysm in 2010 because a splinter faction returned to night elf society as mages known as the Shen'dralar. Warcraft 3 is a conventional type game not an MMORPG so you can play it, play the missions and beat all the campaigns and get the story. It's also considered by most fans to be the BEST writing Blizzard ever did next to Diablo and Starcraft. To me personally it's the best gameplay they ever did next to Diablo 2. Now if RTS games aren't your jam, just use cheat codes so you can see the dialogue and cinematics as a lot of the story is in the campaign missions and dialogue themselves rather than just in the cinematics. Warcraft 1 and 2 were way more simple games 1994, 1995 and 1996 for WC2's expansion so you could just read a synopsis of "The First War" and "The Second War" whereas WC3 was 2002. Fun fact, they had pandaren a good 6 years before the Kung Fu Panda movies existed. There was an art concept by Samwise Diddier I think from like 1999 and Chen Stormstout (pandaren monk) was in the files for WC3 I think and I know for sure he was in the epilogue campaign for the Horde at the end of the Frozen Throne expansion.

Sylvanas calling the horde and all the mortal armies in general nothing is from her PoV, the life is pretty much meaningless against the eternity of death. Alliance and Horde knew almost northing about the Shadowlands, the afterlife of Warcraft, where they all, after death, would exist for way longer and that as barely more than cattle, drained form their "anima" (kind of the experience a mortal piles up during their life), until they either fall apart and stop existing for good or are reborn as a 'blank' soul to pile up anima again. Sylvanas went against this insanity and got zero problems in ending some lives earlier to reach that goal, to receive the needed power. For her, all these absurd war mongering, be it for honor, for power or whatever else, is just mindless pawns on a chess board, tin soldiers, who got no say, just tools in the hand of a system without any care for them.

If you are going to Delve into Arthas's Lore I HIGHLY recommend Nobble's channel. He covers the Lore in depth. In regards to your time magic comment, there has Always been Time Magic in game. The Bronze Dragonflight defends the timelines, and their leader's name is Nozdormu. Due to time shenanigans he was destined to become Murozond, leader of the Infinite Dragonflight who were antithetical to the Bronze Flight up until recently. Edit after Legion rating: You officially have One of the most hated expansions as your best and the most loved as your worst. BFA Cinematic 1: That Troll was nameless when the Cinematic was created, he was so loved by the community that he was made an official character. Shadowlands cinematic: Dodging the obvious bait about people loving Slands, that was quite literally Hell. The tower in the sky was the tip of Torghast, which is in the Maw (WoW Hell) War Within: Those are the Earthen, precursor to the Dwarves and new playable race in TWW.

At 31:00 when you’re talking about how this expansion connects with the lore, it’s actually really important to the lore!! It hurt watching that so I just had to leave a comment 😅 In the Mists of Pandaria Expansion, the Horde Warchief Garrosh Hellscream was beginning to show signs of paranoia with his own allies, aswell as becoming increasingly more warmonger-y with his tactics in the war. So near the end, he commit lots of atrocities and basically corrupted the entire continent of Pandaria with the Heart of an Old God, tho of course the champions of Azeroth (The players) put an end to that and basically arrested him. Later on, He stands trial in Pandaria for all of his hate crimes against Pandaria and a lot of other stuff he’s done in the past, But while this trial is going on, he makes two unlikely allies that break him out of the trial. For a little context, these two were two dragons, Wrathion and Kairoz. Wrathion is the son of Deathwing, the dragon in the cataclysm trailer, and Kairoz was a dragon apart of the Bronze dragonflight. There are five dragonflights, all that control different aspects of life and such, The bronze control time. Kairoz saw the oncoming invasion of the Demons that was going to happen in the Legion expansion, and thought it’d be a good plan to build an army prior to the invasion, And decided that Garrosh would be a good choice as he has experience in that sort of thing. So both Wrathion and Kairoz send Garrosh back in time to an alternate timeline of Draenor where he could stop the orcs from being corrupted from the demons, and build an army with the orcs on draenor to fight against the invasion. But to no surprise, Garrosh of course deviated, And chose to build his “Iron Horde” to invade Azeroth and conquer the whole world, where at the end you can see the orcs constructing The Dark Portal a lot earlier than they should have. Which is when they start invading Azeroth, only to be met with “Azeroth’s champions” (the players again). We invade Alternate Draenor, kill off Garrosh once and for all, And put an end to the Iron horde, But not before Gul’dan escaped into Current Azeroth, where Gul’dan then started The Legion Invasion that Kairoz saw before. So in short, they kinda caused the very thing they were trying to stop.

Bliz has yet to explain this: In Burning Legion, Illidan was the 'bad guy' and the Naaru (snowflake cut-out looking things) *helped* with the fight against him. Later, in Legion, one of them has us rescue his soul from the Nether, so that he can save Azeroth, as "The Chosen One". Was the first Naaru wrong, or was it just a really convoluted plan??

I don't think we ever get a good explanation as to what Sylvanas thought 'free' meant here. Turns out, she was working with what amounts to the 'god of death' AKA "The Jailor" who, as of the start of the expansion, has been imprisoned for wanting to kill a bit too much (I think?).

31:07 the alternate timeline wasn't the problem with WoD, its the fact it was the first trully single player expansion, dont think i saw a single other player that entire expansion (dungeon finder doesnt count because noone talks in those, youre basically playing with bots) thats the last time I played wow, played from 2005 to 2015. But yea the cinematics were dope lol. For the record WoTLK was the peak. The talent trees were so damn long, the loot tables were bulging, paladins were actually the best tanks... good times

Arthas was a holy paladin...he watched demon destroy his city and to get revenge, he picked up cursed sword, killed his father, destroyed his kingdom, murdered countless people and then got his ballz freezed up to the glacier the speech you hear in cinematic is him remembering speech his father once gave him, about what it takes being a good king. The Cinematic basicly juxtapositioned this noble speech while you see Arthas doing exact opposite than what you hear As for Warlords of Draenor.. the Timelines were always part of the WoW, there is a Bronze Dragonflight who are stewards of time, but up to this point it was cointained to single dungeons/raid and it had no effect to the game itself. but this was point where they screwed up and pissed lot of players. It was interesting idea, but it did not really worked in practics. As for Sylvanas, Arthas killed her and made her a banshee (undead spirit able to possess others) she got out of his controll and got her body back, so she is basicly possessing her own corpse, that is why she is not decayed like your usual undead

I like to watch reactions but I love how you are doing this reaction knowing enough to ask reasonable questions but still confused :) As they bring Anduin into the cinematics as teenage King, had to comment he and Sylvannas were the most difficult raid bosses in Shadowlands, the amount of phases in those fights was insane, plus the chances to die stupidly, mess up something that would one shot the raid, etc. re: Shadowlands: if you wanted to grind until your fingers bled, and dance around trying to get into gated content and spells, go into the most fun weekly death zone, and ultimately fight an end boss whose story was: I'm the big bad because I wanted to save you from this other big bad by killing you all? - then Shadowlands is the best. You can use your bow in melee range, its just stupid cause why would a hunter ever want to go into melee?

To be fair, you are not really wrong when it comes to that tree. Such world trees are said to be heavily linked to the soul of the planet and since the Titans (the gods of order, one of the cosmic forces) got their hands in there, I wouldn't really trust those trees at all...

12:50 No, Blizzard copyied Game of Thronees. The books was made years before the game. Blizzard has even said they got inspiration from the books. And the makers of the series got inspiration from the game, as you can see in this clip: :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/imnZeWOKlq53hLs

dont be a Sylvanas fanboi. She is evil, really evil. And now, without any powers given by the Jailor, she is doing daylies in the Maw. I hope this will be the place where she stays for the rest of WoW. And by the way, the tree she burnt was not a normnal tree, it was a World Tree. These are not only important for Night Elves, but for every druids as well. Including Horde druids!

Artha is not tragic villain. The only tragic about him is, that everyone though that he would be a just King and Champion of Light, instead he failed from the very start. The least evil thing he did was still disgustingly brutal, slaughtering every single civilian in a city to make sure that none of them could turn undead, without any care if they might not be ineffected. That's the LEAST evil thing he did. After that it's a straight down road to hell until the plan of planetar genocide. Only a fascist would see him as "tragic hero". There were corrupting forces in his life, but he did never care to hold up against them. In contrast to Sylvanas, who was also always brutal in her means after Arthas murdered, rose her as an undead Banshee and tortured her physically and psychically, even forcing her with his mind control powers to slaughter her own people, she always fought for good goals, freedom for outsiders and in Shadowlands even for the freedom of all mortals and when she got the choice between near to absolute power and staying with that goal, she instantly choose freedom of everyone else over her own. Something Arthas never cared about a single second.
@iMoD1904 ай бұрын
that's some mental gymnastics you've got there to condemn Arthas while praising Sylvanas. they were both heroes, corrupted and consumed by a desire for vengeance until they became hollow genocidal monsters that ultimately ended up serving the Jailer. Sylvanas fought for revenge, then for conquest, then for her own personal power. she had no concerns about betraying allies, manipulating her own people to keep them broken and hopeless, torturing the Valkyr into serving her, purging entire civilian populations, siding with evil entities like the Jailer and N'Zoth, or trying to murder her own sisters. the only way that Sylvanas was fighting for 'good and freedom' is if you take her own twisted view that death is freedom from life, and that murdering people to raise them as Forsaken servants is a mercy. even in supposedly trying to 'free' everyone from death, she was also saving herself from an afterlife of damnation. she even states as much herself, that in the end she was no better than Arthas.

Having expansions that are just non-cannon and have no repercussions is way worse. You just completely destroy the weight of what is going on and the feeling of progression. If you really want to do the alternate timeline, do it in a way where somehow both timelines are relevant moving forward. Let the main characters, as the time travelers, be involved in both. I don't remember the WoD storyline exactly or what the point of the time travel is, but I would do it like this to keep everything consistent, yet impactful. 1) Let's assume your reason for going back in time is to correct the past, or just explore "what if". 2) We go through that whole "what if" expansion, changing things around. 3) Then the next expansion, we return to future -- a world we developed over many expansions, but it's somehow different. So it's the world at the present time of MoP, but as it would have played out with the changed we made in WoD. So the writers just need to consider, and fill in, the major plot points that would have changed during that time. It's a lot of writing, and there will be a lot for players to catch up on, but that in and of itself could be the premise of the next expansion. It's familiar, yet different, and now we are discovering the implications of the changes we me. The "original" timeline did happen to our characters, and it is still relevant insofar as it taught us what happens when we go down that road. And much of what did happen may still play out in the new timeline. But this way, even though we're going back in time and changing things, it's still really just the next step in a single, continuous story.

i wish when people make videos and put "every cinematic" in their titles (not you Omario) they would add more than just the CGI cinematics... watching them in order is all good and that but you're not gonna know what the hell is going on in them. Leigon is my favourite expansion. Wrath of the lich king was for a long time, but legion just blew my mind. You probably already know this by now but Slyvanas is technically dead properly dead not undead... she was sentenced to saving every single soul in the maw (millions upon millions of souls) as punishment for what she did to Teldrassil by Tyrande (leader of the Night Elves) so i'm guessing we probably won't be seeing Slyvanas again. Blizzards way of writing her out the game i guess. I watched your night elf hunter play through and i see you liked Genn Greymane but then you see him in BFA in his Worgen form and immediately hate him lmao **Anduin using mass ress to revive his army.** Omario: Nah he just buffs everyone with +1 to strength... the insult!! lmao

No, he isn't. Blizzard even said he's a priest. He wears armor because he's in battle and the king. Nowhere ever in lore or the novels does it even say he wants to be a paladin or becomes one. Maybe in the future but as of the start of this new xpac he has never been a paladin.
@carro-xb9oz4 ай бұрын
@@MaemuraLonewolf That is how they've been depicted since Warcraft 3. Anduin though, was a priest, that eventually took up his fathers sword and donned heavy plate to fight in melee. In WoW, since Warcraft 2, priests that take up melee weapons and don heavy plate to fight the enemy in melee combat are paladins. Period. maybe hes a hybrid then.:)
