Damn, every time I hear this amp, I wish to sell some stuff to fund it. And I'm super surprised how good that low gain switch sounds :O Didn't expect that at all. As someone who likes to dial back gain and dig into string harder to bring out gain (especially when quad tracking), that sounds perfect for such cases. You explained the character of this amp perfectly, tighter DualRec lows, ENGL mids, DualRec - 5150 child highs, exactly what I'm always looking for in my tone. Great video man!

With the midrange I believe mick Thomson uses it set above noon and that’s saying something considering he usually hates mids and you could never hear him live before.

I've actually started backing off the mids a bit in this amp, it pushes some low mids that get a little fuzzier, and backing off the mids a bit, having them around noon, get that wide modern tone, lots of cutting upper mids

Yeah and they've really done well with their amps. I plan on doing a follow-up video to this soon. This amp took a while for me to really get to know, and I have it set up better than I did in this video, I back off the mids and wasn't pushing it as hard and now I have it sounds bigger, wider and overall better. @@ryanparker584 the power section honestly isn't going to make a massive difference to your overall sound. Kristian kohle has a great video up on the tonal impact of going from 6l6s to el34s in his dual rec. So I sold the Cali back in October to fund this. Not better, just different. It's better for me for sure. The Cali is a monster of an amp and I wish I was able to keep it and have the Granophyre. I'm just more of an American voiced amp kind of guy and this amp, for me, is perfect.

Hopefully you were able to get your dough back when you sold this. Cause you’ve had to sold this by now, right? Lol. The hype on these is severely unwarranted.
@MetalHeadProductions2 жыл бұрын
I haven't sold it, no, and I really like the amp. Just used it with a video for the ltd black metal guitar I picked up and I'm planning a follow up video on this since I've gone for less of a mid forward sound with, more of a modern scoop. I was pushing mids a bit too much and that was saturating in the lower mids which got more of a fuzzier sound than I wanted. The amp is great, big, clean low-end like a dual rec, but tight, that modern scoop is wide and huge sounding, and the amp cuts without the need of an OD. It's a great amp, I just have to do a follow-up to show how I've gotten on with it over the last year.

@MetalHeadProductions3 жыл бұрын
@@geoffmcmullen3782 I've gotta ask what you're listening through because even not in the room it sounds nothing remotely like an hm2. Like, this amp has a lot of clean but tight lowend, the hm2 absolutely does not, this has a smooth mid range for some cut but not so much it's overbearing, the hm2 is all the midrange and super nasal, this is sits somewhere between dry and saturated, hm2 is massive over saturated, this amp is very dynamic, the hm2 is massively over compressed. I'm just trying to wrap my head around what you're heading. Csguitars has a video up on the hm2, go take a listen to what it sounds like, then come back and listen to this amp and see if you still feel the same way.
