Just got this one as my first proper automatic watch. Been waiting on it for a good 2 years at least, kept grinding and here we are now. Couldn’t love it more. I don’t regret 1 bit getting the 39mm over the 36mm for my 16.8 cm wrist, fits perfect. The dial is not cramped at all, the whole watch is so smooth looking. I might’ve watched this video 30 times over this 2 years to be fair. 😂

Took many minor scratches and now about 1min late daily, never been open or serviced although it slept in drawer couple of years along the way while Casio Protrek and AW was my favourite at that time. Bought this black dial 2503.50 yesterday, simply incredible! It’s a piece of Omega heritage. The simple design is the best of the range with the no imitation ‘deck’ lines on the dial. At 11mm height and 39mm case the proportions are sleeker than the latter master co-axial versions. The clasp is unusual which adds to its appeal. All in all a very special watch that will get rarer and arguably more valuable with time

I got the quartz version of this for weekend wear. Fantastic watch, looks amazing, very comfortable bracelet, never need to worry about setting the time. Something I want to highlight, it sparkles. This watch looks understated at first but those applied rhodium plated index markers really catch the light. You always feel a bit special wearing this one. On the negative side I agree the bezel scratches quite easily and as a 3-handed black dial watch goes I don't think the legibility is as good as a Rolex OP or a Seiko SARB033 because you're relying on reflections from the hands rather than white painted strips. But I wouldn't swap this watch for any other one.

This one absolutely stunning! I’m on the process to save up for it. A perfect all-occasions piece. I’m just in between the 39mm and 36 but I’m leaning towards the latter since my wrist is 6 inch. I have a sarb which is 38mm and 44 lug to lug, though, and it sits just perfectly. Anyway, cheers man, great video!

I have the same model but with the cream dial and the blued hands. I have a couple of reservations though . The first is the bracelet which can be a bit awkward to fasten and the second is the movement. The watch, that I also bought used ,suddenly stopped It had to go back to the watch maker and after subsequently checking I discovered that precise lubrication of the escapement is critical to avoid trouble and the 2500 movement , particularly the "c" can have problems. However , on all the other points you mentioned, I can only agree with you. Certainly a versatile choice.
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that. Upon purchase of mine (being preowned and unserviced for 13 years) it had the exact same issue with suddenly stoping etc. I had a complete service performed and now it runs like a dream. As for the bracelet, honestly, i wish that it had some room for proper microdjust, that would make it perfect. Nonetheless, in saying that, I also am drawn to the cream dial variant of this, I think its a lovely classic look. Enjoy it and wear it in good health cheers Peter

I have the B version of the 2500. It had this problem as well but once it was serviced it runs perfectly. It. Eats at a 28000 beat rate and is the most accurate watch in my collection. I had the new Aqua-Terrawith the 8900, the master coax with the 8500, and the second gen with the 8500. So i have owned every gen of the aqua terra. I had this watch three times! I keep going back to it. It was and is the best. With the movement, saying it is a modified 2892 is not accurate. This movement was the first in house movement by Omega in years at the time. It was based off the Omega 1120 which was a heavily modified 2892. They modified a Omega 1120, not a 2892. The 1120 only shared a few parts with the 2892, mainly the base plate, balance bridge, escapement, balance wheel, and thats about it. The 1120 had 23 jewels, the 2892 had 21. The only part the 2500 shares with the 2892 is the base plate, thats it. The rest is all new. This is mentioned in George Daniels book. It was built at a sectioned off part of the ETA plant at ETA. Only run by Omega employees, and engineers, which was unusual at the time. It was top secret at the time. Even ETA didnt know what was being built, and it was their plant! It is considered as in house by Omega, which it should be.

My first "grail" was the blue sunray dial version of this one. But I wanted to buy new, and at the time that was the 38.5 original Skyfall. Great watch. But there were always a few things the first gen AT had that I preferred. Particularly the thinness of the case and elegance of the bracelet. The 2nd gen became notably thicker and chunkier in the case and bracelet. The original blue is also one of the most elegant sunray blues ever, imo. Something about it. Of course the Skyfall had its share of upgrades/advantages itself, but I always remembered how I really wanted that original simple and more ergonomic 2500 sunray blue version. This vid made me want to check the used market for this again :)
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, thanks for sharing that. I was drawn to the slim case which has a beautiful appeal to me (considering a lot of the new stuff is chunky) This 1st Gen has found instant love with em as it sits the way a watch was intended to sit, "comfortably". I am not really convinced if the upgrades really outweigh what a thinner unit has to offer. I tried the latest gen AT on at my local AD and its was lovely, but just not the perfect fit for me.. This 1st gen was purchased by me 'sight unseen', so i was only going by specs...it's that bowl of soup that Goldilocks said was 'just right'..lol Thanks again for sharing btw..cheers Peter

Your observations about this AT geneneration are spot on. I used to own the 36 mm blue dial quartz version and loved it to bits. However, the end links on my specimen had so much play that they tilted away from the case. Research on this topic suggested that this was a common issue. Bothered me so much that I ended up selling it. That being said, I still sometimes find myself lusting after the 39 mm version.
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Thats unusual for the play in the end links, if the spring bars are not the correct thickness, that could account for play. Nonetheless, I have been wearing mine on a tan leather strap and couldn't be happier..:) Thanks again for the feedback, cheers

@@PeterKotsa Thanks for your reply, Peter. I sourced a correct new pair of spring bars for the watch but that did not help. I talked to a local long-time Omega AD about the issue and he confirmed that problems with the end links were common with this AT generation.

Hi Peter, great review and great watch. Think the aqua terra is one of the nicer sporty dress watches. I love the globemaster too. Very elegant watches, and if you can't wear a planet ocean because of the size and thickness, this still has a sporty undertone about it. Perfect daily watch . As I'm getting older I'm enjoying the smaller watches more now too because of the comfort factor as much as anything. I have a large wrist of 7and a half inches, so anything too small can get lost. I've just purchased a vintage tag heuer formula one chronograph from 1999, in great condition , because I love the black plastic bezels on those models. And the chunky straps. I probably paid too much for it in terms of value for money, but I've always liked them , so I thought sod it !!! It will be interesting how I get on with it, as it's a 38mm I believe and I'm used to 42mm. I do have a rado at 39mm though and I can live with that. I've always liked the vintage inspired models as they generally have a simpler style, which I appreciate. I actually hated the black plastic bezels on the tags when they first came out, because they looked cheap , but 20 odd years later I now think they look so cool. Probably not practical, but cool , lol.

@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
Hey Stu, thanks for sharing, you're right that little Seiko 5 at the end of the day does a great job (as do ALL Seiko's) . The main difference in paying for a luxury watch is fit and finish. Basically the movement in a watch like this is adjusted in 5 positions, that means that is is extremely accurate. The materials used are of a higher grade, sometimes white gold, in the case of this watch you have rhodium plated markers etc, you get a sapphire crystal, screw down crown etc, So basically both watches essentially dot he same thing, they tell the time. One has tighter tolerances and materials , thats about it. Thanks again for sharing cheers mate

I went with the 36mm silver faced quartz version of this. I usually favor automatic movements but the quartz version of this already extremely versatile design just made it an extra reliable all rounder.

A big thing that’s missing is a timing function. I find that I time things everyday from cooking steaks to waiting in line, and seeing how long things take. You need either a graduated rotating bezel or a chronograph. An absolutely essential function a watch provides you.
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
True, I did not consider a bezel or timing feature as I do not personally have the need for that. However, that said, there are many brands that offer some sort of timing feature as well that could easily tick all these boxes. Cheers, thanks for the feedback

Congrats. Say the same things about my 2503.34. Definitely most versatile and my one watch if I had to pick. Wish the movement was as accurate as my master chrono/superlative chrono watches as I have to reset this more often. Prefer the clean dial to newer teak ones. Biggest gripe is the single release clasp that can be accidentally undone with wrist flexion. Great breakdown.

Thank you for the feedback. I haven't had any issues yet with the clasp, but I will look out for that in the future. As for now i have been wearing the watch on a rubber strap, very comfortable. Thanks again for the feedback, cheers

I had one with white face and blue dials. The dials and face changed colour with the lighting. Beautiful watch. But as the eyesight started to go the 39mm needed to go. Sold it for a 44mm Panerai. Never looked back. Just needed the big dial and bigger numbers. But a beautiful simple watch.

I got one with opaline white dial and blue markers with 2500B. Beautiful thing. Although the rant gets scratched easily. Sometimes I think Omega has some other kind of steel for their timepieces. For instance, Seiko watches are much more robust.

Ive noticed the same about Omega,its slightly softer steel so it marks easier
@Ed-ig7fj4 жыл бұрын
I bought one of these with the leather strap in about 2010, and it is a truly excellent piece. Mine is super accurate. I have it on a Nato strap to save wear and tear on the original leather strap with the Omega-stamped deployment clasp. My particular watch has the blue face with sunburst polishing. The blue is ephemeral, as sometimes it looks black. The color changes with the lighting, which is pretty neat. The highly polished hands allow you to read it under extremely low-light conditions. Looking into the display back with a loupe is fun. You see the living heart of the movement at work. The size and low profile of the watch are perfect; I don't accidentally smack it into doorframes the way I sometimes do with a taller, more angular watch. Try smacking a Navitimer into something: you gag, wondering if you have just knackered the thing! I agree with P. K., this Seamaster is as good as it gets.

I have an Omega Mark 40 with the same bracelet and clasp.Although its a nice looking bracelet and clasp ,I find it hard to size the bracelet for my 7.5 inch wrist, its either too tight or too loose even with half links which I purchased at great expense. The newer generation clasps although bulky in comparison at least provide more adjustability. That being said, this generation of Omega watch is a great value proposition.
