I've had this watch for 9 years now and independent of the other watches I've collected (speedmaster etc)... It still finds its way to my wrist more than the others. I was devastated at the beginning of this year because I was convinced that I had lost it over Christmas. Fortunately! My wife found it underneath our fireplace ... and the first thing I did was book it in for a full service at Omega ($1060 AUD). I love this watch. To me it's absolutely perfect.

What a gorgeous dial! Everything is nice about this watch, but that dial knocks it out of the park! Your right about that bezel. I have other watches with that scalloped edge and it leaves a little to be desired, but it is pretty. Thanks for your time.

Completely agree. Amazing quality casework and movement. The hands and dial are so highly visible at all angles and lighting that it is an incredibly functional tool piece which is also so classically designed artistically it looks at home in a formal setting as well. Best one watch value for sure. I also love the new watch design - which seems to have favored a ultra tough tool watch design with the highest specs in movement durability. Both fantastic.

Bruce thanks for the video. I purchased this watch when the new one came out, I had them both in my hands and decided to go with this one because I’ve liked it for so long. I upgraded the clasp to the push button you just have to contact your local Omega boutique and they’ll order one for you. I believe this watch is dressier than the newer model the newer model is quite flashy and I’m not 100% sure how it’ll age.

Still prefer this one to the newer version. In fact I’d take this over a Sub, sure it’s not in the same ballpark for movement and bracelet but aesthetically it knocks the socks off a Rolex Sub and still remains one of the best sub £5k divers on the market today, albeit on the secondhand market unless you’re lucky to bag a BNIB one.

Great review... Everything you said was bang on point. I have the exact same watch. It fell from a ledge at knee height in the shower, while on holiday last year and it stopped working. Lucky it landed on a closed clasp, so no damage to the watch case. A real shame these watches don't live up to the looks of a robust watch - should've brought my G-shock. Yet to get it repaired. It's 6 years old, so due a service anyway. Enjoy your classic watch! Thanks for your review of this classic watch.

I 100% agree with all of your sentiments here Bruce. I have the black version and I think this clean-dial version (sans wave pattern) is the best size in the lineup. I also agree that the bezel is a little less than desirable. It feels sort of hard and gritty. I think if they could smooth it out just slightly, they'd have an absolute winner. Still an incredible watch as-is, but I do dislike the feeling of the bezel.

Great watch and I love mine. I added the adjustable clasp and it cost me approximately $100 USD and it's as nice or nicer than the Rolex glidelock clasp IMHO. Cheers

I'm about to purchase this one now for a little under $3k. It is a great watch and I prefer it to the larger, bulkier current model. I wish it had the more subtle wave dial from the previous version but I really like the lacquer dial as well. This watch has a bit of a neo-vintage vibe compared to the new one, which has a more modern look but for me it is a little big and the dial is a little too busy, in my opinion. Looking forward to getting this one to add to my collection!

SMPC is just perfect watch for me as well. If I have to pick some flaws, 1. it does get magnetised easily.. I dunno maybe I'm using my laptop too often, but it does. 2. I feel the lug width is getting wider. My piece did not have single gap btw the lugs and the bracelet, but it does now. And this happened both my blue and black versions. 3. The bracelet is quiet heavy in my opinion. As someone mentioned here, I do hope it tapers down to 18mm. Other than these three, this piece is just so great.

I own two classic Seamaster DeVille's and I've been on the lookout for a diver. Briefly checked out the Rolex because, well... it's Rolex. But it seems I'm an Omega guy. The new version is great but I also found it a bit large on the wrist and wasn't as thrilled with the wave dial as I expected to be. My local Omega boutique had one 2017 model in blue left in stock and is willing to deal. Fantastic watch and a price that is irresistible. Decision made. (FYI, I also found the bezel a bit difficult to move but like the fact I can count on it not being easy to accidentally move)

Beautiful watch. Most wearers will never move the bezel off 12 so they'll never notice the action. Dive watches are an anachronism , real divers use dive computers. Any thoughts on a chronometer (with date and tachymetre ) alternative to the Speedmaster? Another anachronistic choice I know!

Prefer the old school classic wave dial w aluminum bezel, it’s not as chunky and smaller clasp like this one vs. the new. Versatile piece too, goes well on rubber, steel, nato and leather, which is rare. Great bargain buy indeed!

This was the Seamaster that overtook the Submariner. Clean and timeless design, no unnecessary frills, and the right size. Sadly the 2019 version regressed into the "fashion watch" look--too big, too thick, the huge wave pattern looks effeminate, the date display is too narrow now because it has to mimic the vertical shape of 6 o'clock index instead of the usual 3 o'clock index, and even the helium escape valve now has an oddly slanted shape. It doesn't look classic anymore. They tinkered with too many things that needed no tinkering at all.

Owned that exact same version. Sold it after one year. Liked it in the beginning but quickly got increasingly annoyed with the few things: HE bump, skeleton hands, scalloped bezel (both the look and the action), the bracelet looks dated and unnecessarily dressy for a dive watch, also the fact that it does not taper makes it look cheap IMO. I also do not like how the crown guards are made on this watch. Love the crown guards on my sub. This watch costs what it costs for a reason. And I mean on a secondary market. Again, it is only my personal opinion and if you love it - do enjoy it and wear it with pride. Cheers bud.

Unfortunately the 2500 movement sucks. It really does. They get magnetized just by thinking about it and that's the downfall. Without that it'd be perfectly fine. :-( By the way, for those who do not know, I owned a Planet Ocean with a 2500 and know numerous people with the 2500D SMP, all of whom suffered magnetization.

I've heard of occasional issues with the b and c variants but I've had nothing but great experience with the d. Yours was the only one I've heard of frequent magnetization happening Matt. That is frustrating

Hogwash. I’ve owned a dozen calibre 2500s, (b, c, d) all were and are reliable workhorses. None have ever become magnetized, don’t know what you’re doing wrong.

I can attest to this. My SMPc gets magnetized easily whenever I pass through full body metal detectors vs. my other watches with Japanese, or ETA movements.

I just can't get past the bracelet. It is too intricate and "fancy" for my taste, especially with the polished sections. I have been trying to justify a different bracelet (or even a strap) on it that is more typical of a dive watch.
