I have this model watch… I bought it for 900 dollars in a sale in Manhattan when I was working there. I still love it. The first thing I did was replace the metal bracelet with a thick leather strap and it looks fantastic with a great strap.

900? that's a really good price mate. Did you get the box and papers or just the watch?

I have the blue dial one with a silver color bezel. Wish I would have known about the blue bezel but I’ve had it since 2007 and I love it. Super accurate and it’s been a work horse. Definitely my first omega but won’t be my last.

I like these kinds of review because they show interesting watches. That Omega is beautiful and a very intelligently planned dial. Also the walking on and off camera is hilarious. I never really noticed until you mentioned it.

That Omega and like most of their models uses the solid link system with the tubes, or collar sleeves to hold them firmly in place. Kind of a pain to size but with the right tools it's better than your average cheap-o cotter pin fossil watch design. Now the newer Omega bracelets on some Seamasters and Aqua Terra watches use 2 screws one on each end of the link that only are threaded a small section down. And in the center part of the link is a solid pin that you can push out by hand without hammering it out but are a pain in the ass to re-insert if the link is not perfectly level. The heads of the screws are large enough that you won't chew them up removing them but the downside without some sort of thread locking compound being re-applied like at the factory they will back themselves out. Even on some Rolex's the pin can back itself out and that's why the screw in type pins aren't always perfect. And if they have to much thread locker from the factory they are extremely difficult to remove, you don't just jam in the screw driver and it magically comes out. I had a customer recently bring in a brand new Ball watch and that happened and instead of bringing it in since he didn't have a screw driver small enough he pressed it into a table so hard he flattened the head to the point I had to cut the slot deeper to remove it. Suffice to say had to order a new one to make it look right and when it comes in I'll thread lock it in place.

Wow......thank you for sharing that. I've made many a mistake when sizing my own bracelets. Similar to your customer, when frustration got the better of me I've have been known to break some expensive components. I wasn't aware of the newer screw design they had implemented. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Great review for a watch that's not actually there. It helps a lot that you own a speedy and know how it handles. Sometimes people try to do these reviews and they are simply wrong about stuff you'd only know if you actually handle the watch.

Some people always find something negative to complain about. Even if it's a video were someone is just showing off a new product saying nothing negative. They have to vote it down and sometimes write really mean comments. I really don't know what that's about. Must not be happy with themselves. A problem I no longer have.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL
@JANTHONYCHANNEL 8 жыл бұрын
Indeed. It seems only a few of us are blessed to find maturity and self acceptance. I must say, I get some absolutely crazy comments from time to time on my videos. They can be fun to read. =)
@alittleolder
@alittleolder 8 жыл бұрын
Sure, you have no problem handling that but a new guy just starting to post videos might have his world turned upside down. As soon as a video has about 1k views which is not a lot there are about 5-10 people who dislike it and also make that known in the comments. And they even come up with reasons. It's like they're actively looking for something complain. I only comment constructively if someone really makes a bad error our puts out wrong information by mistake. Otherwise I keep them positive.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL

I always appreciate your comments! I've been on KZbin 10 years now which seems crazy. I can honestly say for a long time negative comments really bothered me. I swear there are one or two individuals that jump on my videos as soon as they are uploaded just to down vote them. It really is tough to create content on KZbin and handle the criticism. It was only when someone explained it like this to me. You can't expect positive responses from negative people. Our actions tend to be a reflection of our inner health. In that light, whenever I read a negative comment I accept that the person writing it was suffering from a negative state of mind and rather than getting upset I feel sorry for them. That's my thought anyway.

Where do you buy a speedmaster like this? And how much do they go for?

Great video. Love the piece. I wonder what servicing is like for a piece like this. I wonder if local watchmakers can handle this movement, or are we talking about a $750+ servicing from Omega? That kind of "ouch" starts to overshadow the affordability of this watch.
@FlorianLify
@FlorianLify 7 жыл бұрын
If the watch actually needs a full service (get it waterproof again; take it apart) it will set you back around $600 pretty quickly (you get a new crown and pushers etc etc) So take that into account when buying a mechanical watch!
@BenA_DD
@BenA_DD 6 жыл бұрын
Someone I know said that he spent $602 on a full service and parts for this exact model, not cheap but could be a lot worse for a Speedmaster.
@richardelson3261
@richardelson3261 2 жыл бұрын
It's painfully expensive. I had mine done in December 2021 and it was £650. I'd never have bought one if I'd known the servicing was so costly. I just bought it in sale because I loved the look of it. I'd never buy a watch like this again. It's just silly money. But I'm very pleased to have it and I do love it. Servicing is about once a decade (for me at least) so I like to look at that as a per month cost.... nothing like self deception!

Unique Idea and approach, J., please continue this kind of reviews. Nice watch indeed. Ps. I never had an Omega but the Seamaster professional 300 (I think it is called the bond watch) has really grown on me. Other from high service costs, what should I watch out for? Cheers mate, Erik

I'm going to sound like an idiot here. I have this watch. Should I wind it clockwise or counterclockwise??? One way ticks over in a way, the other way feels difficult to wind. Help would be appreciated.
@kaypee1972
@kaypee1972 5 жыл бұрын
Brendan Jackson the more difficult direction is the „winding“ direction. But normally you do turns in both directions anyway. If yours is going to tough, might want to have a look at it. Mine got after approx. 10 years also rather tough. Had it for revision at an Omega authorized watchmaker and now it’s smooth again. Cost for full revision approx. 450€.

Very nice review! I haven't seen this Speedmaster but I like it. I believe all of the new Speedmasters now have screw-in links. My Speedmaster is one year old, and it has very small screw-in links. They're not perfect but still a big improvement over the old pins. Those things were terrible.

Thanks for doing this review. Such a coincidence that after I bought the Seiko SARB035, I have my eyes set on a used Speedy 3513.50 that you have reviewed years ago at a very attractive price, and I watched this vid. Although these ETA Speedmasters are almost half the price and better practical features (automatic, sapphire and date) than the moon watch, there is always this feeling of not getting the "real deal". Not sure if you feel that way? Maybe it doesn't matter for people that are not "collecting" iconic watches?

I get what you are saying. I kinda had the same feeling when I owned my original SpeedMaster that I would rather have the moon watch.
