i went on Omegle for the first time oct 27th with my bsf, scarred. we. were. scarred. Saw a d*ck within the first 30 seconds, multiple actually. Sure we met some nice ppl, but we saw a lot of d*cks. we are minors, and the people didn’t even skip, just showed us anyway. we skipped them immediately, but it was disgusting-

Maybe it's not that deep but as a chronically online, socially anxious NEET who's been at home for a year, and basically living through the internet, I have points to make lol. I think Love is the only thing that matters in the end, everything else is just a distraction; but as the days grow darker and people get more vile we yearn for distractions in the forms of social media brain rot. I'm a writer and I will say there ARE there are creatives thriving - Tumblr, AO3, obviously KZbin, etc. But of course, especially as is the case for Generation Z and Generation Alpha, things like Tiktok alienate us from true community, and it’s what the bigwigs want as long as they make profit. I think non-profit consumption truly might be the way to go. We’re not just consuming media, we let it consume us. I feel dumber by the day and I don’t even do loads other than to chat with friends or write. My concentration span is thinning and I grew up loving reading and had a decent education - so I worry hugely for everyone worse off. Additionally, culture is becoming so fickle and selfish, and ‘’chronically online.’’ What the hell is a looksmaxing? Why does anyone care? Can you name three skills other than consuming media? It’s scary how much some of us rely on/need the internet. It should be a tool for education, friendship, and creation. Not your entire life. It really reminds me of that one Black Mirror episode of that guys stuck in a cube, y’know the one? Lol. I see so much ‘’I ain’t reading alla that,’’ (probs everyone @me rn lol), so many ‘’He’s yapping,’’ ‘’Used ChatGPT,’’ comments when anyone posts anything half-literate. Where did nuance go? Where did reading comprehension, media literacy, debating, learning, where did it all go? Then AI poses a whole other problem for fanworks, like I’m not saying don’t do your history homework late with a little help from AI, but it’s further ruining creation, along with the subway surfers family guy attention span thing we’re all doomed by. With the death of monoculture, young people simply aren’t losers anymore. We all have our own little niches, which honestly? Is a good thing in part. For example I like anime and I formed my best connections with amazing friends through this shared interest. But we aren’t connected as one. I worry for Generation Alpha, because at least growing up we had the 3DS and the Wii and we had so many fun experiences with and without tech, but it wasn’t fake. Now they’re faced with this huge internet blob - isn’t it crazy to think you and I are only skimming the surface of what’s out here? I really think phones should be given at like, eleven or twelve maybe, and parents & community have to supervise and be internet-savvy. Crack down on what’s being shared and done online. People truly will share or do anything for clout. I see children joking about mommy milkers or rosetoys or whatever junk every week. It’s shockingly common to send death threats to literal strangers - or sexualise them, again with trends such as ‘’mommy milkers,’’ ‘’bubblegum pink,’’ ‘’grey sweatpants,’’ etc. Would you say that to someone irl? As for the numbers, as an AO3 writer, I understand craving validation. But do things for passion, views and likes as a bonus. 27 followers seems like nothing, right? Now imagine 27 people in a room with you. The pandemic and so many current events have worsened the younger generation's mental health, me included. But I want no more safety blanket in the internet. So many kids are or were aiming to be KZbinrs/’’influencers,’’ and never got, never will get that far sadly. So what’s the backup? There’s life out there. Live it. Study, work, travel. Find identities, aims, goals, hobbies. Prioritise love, and create, online and offline. Make a legacy. The internet has its pros, hey, it’s nuanced. Sure, have a discord server and fill it with silly people you love. Sure, do something online that pays well. Sure, seek advice, have hobbies and interests and niches and learn lore and languages and gain knowledge. Find magic in the mundane. Be kinder to each other. No matter who you’re talking to. Start remembering we’re humans beyond avatars, stop playing a pseud or a persona or an avatar. Try and get off the internet, or change the way you use it, shorten your time on it and choose what you do wisely. De-expand your internet circle, as such. I don’t want to fearmonger, just sharing cuz I needed to get this out

24:15 because people can hurt you in real life. Omegel was a "safe" place where you could end the call whenever you wanted. Talking to people in real life can cause stress & anxiety, but when you were on call with a stranger, it brought ease knowing you could skip and they'll never see you again. The creator of Omegel stated why it had a purpose in his goodbye note.
