When I first received my SKX009 I was underwhelmed, dare I say disappointed. Then I put it on a navy/white NATO and fell in love! I completely understand why some may not like this watch, but there's just something about it that brings a smile to my face every time I wear it.

I believe the SKX is great for what it brought to the table historically. It was one of the best value watches at its time, one of the FIRST best value quality watches. For all subjective purposes SKX is great. However objectively there are now superior watches within the same price point which offer greater features.

I have managed to buy a barely used one for £90, which makes it a decent buy. It's an iconic watch, but for the £369 which is the retail price in the UK, it's probably not so good. Whilst not ISO tested, the best divers watch I own is a Parnis 200m. It has a sapphire window, an auto Miyota movement, a ceramic 90 click bezel with a great click, 316L stainless well finished case, beautiful guilloche dial, and decent quality stainless bracelet. Bought new for £75.

Top tip with bracelets. If 12 and 6 are going to have uneven links. Have the 12 with the fewer links. Attach the clasp with the fixed part at 12. Have the micro adjustments on the 6 side. Should be much more comfortable that way. It is for me anyway.

I have had mine for the same amount of time. Still love it though! I have 6.25 inch wrists. I was worried the 009 was going to be too large. Almost got the 013. So happy with the 009 sizing. Not too big or heavy for me at all. Love your videos. Always well done and to the point!

Couldn't agree more, I bought both together and sold the 009 3 months later. The 013 looks great on bond nato, leather strap and I recently bought a strapcode super oyster and I just can't take it off and I don't even like bracelets.

the problem I have with the skx013 is the lug to lug is the same as the 009. is in propotion to its bezel the lugs are a lot longer. the long lugs do not appeal to me.

I think you might regret it. If you are like me you will experience taste swings. I own everything from 46mm to 33mm. Occasionally I think I should get rid of the extremes on one end or the other, but as time passes I am glad I didn't. I want room to express my personality and sometimes I want a big watch.

Okay it may have its faults but to me they are its strengths too. One day I will get another to modify BUT it's a keeper straight out of the box WOW.

I sold mine for some strange reason, and regretted afterwards. Luckily they are abundant and not too pricey. The bracelet, case and bezel is pretty scratch resistant, but go for a sapphire replacement crystal. I adore my SKX031, but suddenly it started to run too fast, but only when worn?! So now im without a Seiko diver - life is not the same ;)

Vostok Amphibia ruined my watch collection. And I was doing so good, buying a different watch, maybe two, each month. Until.. I found my Amphibia. Now my heart is just not into checking out other brands, at least not as much. I try to wear other watches, really I do, however the Amphibia always wins out, day after day. Shame on Vostok.....

The K-35, or K-39 models? Honestly, I don't care for the looks of either. I like the basic Komandirskies with 2414 mvt. (I have 2 and both are very accurate, I even swim with one without problem), butnow my favorite is the Amphibia, 420 case model. Lately I've been checking out a Parnis Pilot, 44m. I like the simple, classy look. I have a Parnis Power Reserve which is beautiful and very accurate. A watch that gets overlooked is a "Kinyued". The quality vs. cost is amazing, in the 40-50 dollar range. If not familiar, you may want to give them a look. Also, I enjoy all of your reviews, great job, and keep it up my friend.

I enjoy my Seiko SKX009J, but I too must admit that I find the aluminum Pepsi bezel insert to be a bit on the cheap size. I'm not a huge fan of the bezel itself. I think a ceramic Pepsi bezel insert and a nice coin edge bezel would make a big difference on this watch. Then again....for around $200 bucks, it's hard to expect more than what you get with what is already a pretty decent watch overall.

WOW!!! Jory and Jody! You guys need to do a collaborated review, of say the new 5kx line as a stand alone watch. Not like how it compares to the vaunted SKX line. They are and always will be a part of horological lore. You don’t get much better than that. There are others out there to fill the void, and maybe a few variations of the 5kx for bonus.

Sometimes smaller is better and in that Jody I am with you despite a 7.5" inch wrist. The Mini me version is far more aesthetically pleasing and would for me be perfect size. EXCEPT FOR: I don't do polished anything its a magnet for scratching - some of us just how shall I say have a tendency for being tough on watches. Why oh why would a dive watch or for that matter a tool watch be polished. Add to that Hardlex is crap and despite not having had an aversion to hardened mineral (Armourlite's is the only one I trust it really is scratchproof after 5 years) me I would be upgrading that to a sapphire and they have them on eBay found em yesterday by chance for Seiko with AR if I recall. Seiko if they really had a clue could upgrade this for all their watches you can get sapphires under $20 so surely they could reduce that cost. I think its a Seiko thing like they have proprietary Hardlex so they use it. I think if they sold products with sapphire they could generate greater sales and have an even superior product but hey thats me. Great review as always. Waiting patiently for the custom build video; no pressure just bored in Adelaide.

Actually, while sapphire is more scratch proof, it is FAR more likely to shatter from impact than Hardlex. Since the SKX is a tool watch as you said, I think Hardlex was the right choice. A scratch is one thing, but if a crystal shatters from impact while underwater, well, you know the rest.

Watching here in 2020. How are you liking the skx013? I have the skx 175 and looking to try the 013 for the smaller case size as well. And now that the skx line has been discontinued it's hard to find from reputable dealers like long island watch, out of stock. Any suggestions? I had an SKX007 and really liked it -- except the chapter ring was misaligned. Grrrrr!!!!! It bugged me so much that I flipped the watch and drowned my sorrows with a properly aligned Turtle, Samurai, Tuna, and Sumo. But.....something about not having one in my collection kept bugging me. How can a genuine Seiko fanboy not have one? Sacrilege! So I bit my prided and an SKX009 is scheduled to be delivered this afternoon. I really hope that this one is aligned, which with Seiko I know is a hit-or-miss proposition.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one! Orient has come out with two new versions of the Bambino; a small seconds, and an open-heart. While not dive watches, they are lovely little pieces! Can you do a review of Rocawear watches. They're not exactly the most expensive watches, however I've found all of mine to be extremely accurate and excellent for their price. My favourite watch of theirs is their mesh chronograph watch. Excellent videos, very informative and much less subjective than many other watch channels that mostly like to throw an expensive watch in your face and review nothing but their price tags. Keep up the good stuff :)

And to update my comment - I sold the 007 after a year. My sarb033 made me realise that I don't need 42mm wide diver to tell the time. Plus, I got spoiled by the sarb's accuracy at -0.5s a day, the skx with its +10 couldn't compete with that 😊 Having said that, I am now looking at the Citizen NY0400. It never ends!!
