Your videos have been super helpful! I got a model 1 Sega CD last week for a great deal. The drawer was jammed and I was able to get it realigned to work again. Still need to replace the belt cuz I can tell it's worn out. I think I need to adjust the laser as well it appears to have difficulty reading a burn game while also having a weird scratching noise. Doesn't happen with audio CDs though. The biggest problem Ive had was the SMD capacitors. Six of them fell off the board just from barely being touched. Thankfully I was able to scrub the pads clean enough and still have enough signal to solder the new capacitors on. But I did have to steal common ground on 3. After personal experience and a lot of research, I really think it's worth swapping the smd capacitors on every model 1. It doesn't hurt anything but it can prevent a lot of future headaches. Again thank you for these very informative videos. I have nothing but mad respect for you. 💪

@@inspectahtech I replaced the power LED with a blue one and replaced one more capacitor on the main board I haven't gotten to. Turn the system on to test it and the red light did not come on and after 20 seconds smoked started coming off the power bored.. pacifically a three-prong thing right next to the power port.. but the fuse did not blow... It crushed me so bad. And I'm terrified to do anything else. . Maybe if you're okay whether we can work out a deal with I'll send you the power board and the motherboard fix whatever I did wrong. 🥲

So the damaged cog lifter thing wasn't a major? You left as is and it went ok? Looks like mines got a chunk out too

I love the Model 1 but hoooooly hell is the drive loading mechanism design flawed as f**k!. On mine one of the teeth on top of that cylindrical vertical lift gear that moves the reader up and down is broke so it keeps skipping out of alignment and jamming Wish there was someone selling 3d printed replacements :(

I'm planning on getting a sega cd(model 1) since I got a 1989 genesis(model 1) even if the sega cd has problems I'm planning on getting a working one and if it needs repairs I'm willing to invest into it because I'm no expert I only went into a gamecube with help twice but yeah these model 1 systems have so much problems like the quality control was bad for sega for $300 back in 1992 more than the genesis

It's not reading a disc

Really not worth getting a model one. I refurbished my model two Sega CD with new cap new laser new charge battery. ML2032

Not worth it if you just want reliability. But worth it if you just love to try and figure things out.

hello , nice video . I think i have the same problem but with a neo geo cd front loader, it is the exact same drive. Can you , please , explain me how did you managed to take the tray appart ? I wish i could access those gears under it but i don't understand how to do it without destroying it .

ok got it ... hahah . But it is still not fixed. I am where you realize you have 2 broken pieces of plastic. I had the same issue but only one side was broken . But i will watch the rest very seriously , i think your video will be ( finaly ) my solution .This is so hard to find info about neo geo cd1. Until i realize it is the same drive as a mega cd...
