Oh man, back when the Grammys and the Oscars were actually worth watching. Whitney didn't ever disappoint back then.

What can we say anymore. She was simply THE best vocalist of my lifetime, hands down! Many were extremely great and rare but none like her. She is certainly missed!!

Who dosnt love this beautiful lady, and her voice ? America lost the greatest treasure of all when she passed.

Whitney always brought it in this era - whenever she had a full orchestra behind her she never disappointed! I have watched this performance so many times since 1989 that I've lost count! Her tone was one of a kind!

Do you hear how her voice filled all the entire room??? This is how powerful was!! She deserved that standing ovation at the end of the performance 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Tears in my eyes so many years later. The song is moving, Whitney was so beautiful and so talented, and watching this in view of the end of her life, it is just heart rending. She is teaching the angels to sing now, I hope.

I agree - I'm not american but her version makes me patriotic and her version is the only reason that I know the lyrics!

I always loved Whitney's voice. Also, she was a beautiful woman on the outside.

Seems some of the most talented die way before their time, just like Karen Carpenter. Two of the best on earth in my top 3. The other one is still alive - Ann Wilson of Heart.

@@susanhunter7124 Yes and then some make it appear they did, if you know what's been going on in the industry. Many seem to have mental issues that aren't dealt with by anyone who can help them do that as well either.

One of the best live performances, if not the best. Her voice was so incredible everyone wanted her to perform at countless venues & movies. I honestly believe her star was so on fire it was hard for her to have any type of normalcy. She will always be a favorite of mine!

Harri, I was privileged to see Whitney during her first tour. The venue was about half sold out and she was about 22. What a phenomenal performer she was, every time I see this particular performance I weep.

🤔 what performances of Whitney have you seen from 2022?? Even at the end her voice was still better than 99.9% of these so called singers we have now. And let’s be clear, during her comeback she put out some phenomenal live performances that were 100% LIVE. Very few artist who toured like Whitney could keep their vocals perfectly. And people need to stop with “the drugs destroyed her voice”…that’s not true. Her vocal damage was from cigarette smoking and over touring rather than her drug usage. And let’s not forget how our own black community didn’t want to accept her precious gift when she first hit the scene, now they all want to praise her now that she’s gone. They are a bunch of hypocritical idiots. From the very beginning I loved her -with all her struggles I loved her after all she’s human. She’s the best vocalist of all time.

She’s definitely the greatest 🙏🏼 Edit: So unbelievably talented, so ladylike, so humble, such a beautiful demure spirit ♥️ It’s such a contrast, and was even back then(Madonna, etc.), but especially now to the sleazy, scantily dressed, twerking Grammy performers of today.

From an Aboriginal Brother way down in Southern Australia I LOVE LOVE LOVE your reaction tributes and Harry Id say for me she was her absolute best in this performance, and heres a bit of Trivia: Usually the Grammys do standing ovations toward the end of the night or when someone gets a lifetime achievement, and I clearly remember this was a standing ovation after the very FIRST PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT that opened the show, hence her coming from behind the tribute to the 88 American Olympic Team that year as there was this big fanfare and film about them first which morphed into this song which was one of the American olympic anthems that year Harry (PS: I also see Natalie Cole, Ginger Rogers (who deos the two arm champions salute) Paula Abdul and Andy Williams in the standing ovation, but they would have been ALL there but yes the standing ovation was after the first song which was unheard of so yes another first for her!

I can't enjoy listening to any Whitney Houston song anymore, knowing how she was over-managed (abused) by so many people in her life a la Elvis Presley. Reading her Wiki bio one can see the unhappy ending shaping up and being fulfilled. Heartbreaking how American entertainment system works. This particular performance was 1989 (?) and her face already looks drawn and drugged. A miracle she lasted until 2012.

She's only 20 years old here. This was early in her career when she wasn't being taken seriously. The press called her the "prom queen" of soul. She blew this out of the water in front of the Grammy audience of pros.
@tmason3409 Жыл бұрын
20? She was born August 9th, 1963. So she was almost 26 here. But this was the year of the Soul Train Awards where she was indeed not appreciate. And that was truly ridiculous! It really showed how much unnecessary crap she went through in her career.
