In a three year period out of maybe nine or ten shoes have owned 3 ON cloudflow. Will order the surfer as soon as it becomes available. My ON running socks are maybe my favorite not that I do lots of sock comparisons. I believe wide swings in shoe styles keep the feet and body healthier.

THANK YOU! I have been wanting to love On for so long and somehow never gelled with their shoes. I have been running with HOKA Ricon for a while and then moved to the Mach 4 and 5 which a bit more durable. I really enjoy the energy return from the Mach 4/5. I ran in the Novablast for a while which although I really liked the cushioning , always found a bit unstable somehow. I saw this video, I paused it and literally ran to the store to get my cloudsurfer. At low speed they almost feel like the Novablast but more stable while at higher speed, the energy return is almost as strong as on the Mach 4/5. It's also a super light shoe. The price is a bit high compared to the other options but I feel it could be more durable that the HOKA which falls apart after 300 miles.

In these inflationary times your running shoes have become even more helpful. I normally would not be willing to experiment with a brand like On. I would stick to a more traditional brand knowing that it would fit and perform as expected. Thanks to your expertise, I am confident that a shoe like the On Cloud surfer would work for me. I might give On a try the next time I need new shoes.

I went and got some from the flagship store here in London on Sunday, first time buying ON shoes and was excited to try them out. Weird experience in the store, sales staff tried to warn me off buying them because of 'squeaking problems' they said a lot of customers have returned them because they make loud squeaking noises. They kept trying to make me buy the Eclipse!...Not what you want to hear when you finally decide to give this brand a try. I got them anyway I felt committed so lets see if I run into the same problems.

I had reconstructive foot surgery in October. Had a Calcaneal Osteotomy and repair of ruptured posterior tibial tendon. It’s been a grind. I’m trying to get into a shoe that doesn’t inflame my calcaneal cuboid joint. I just bought these and they seem to be working incredibly! Solid combination of stability and comfort, especially around the arch. My question, do you recommend any other shoes that are similar to the Cloudsurfer in fit but are more of a trail runner or even a daily wear? That being said, the Cloudsurfer may have changed my whole recovery process! So stoked! Mahalo!

Most likely will not buy an On shoe in the next year, however I do think they will continue to make gains. Interestingly, they recently established a professional running team based in Australia so I think they will have to continue to fine-tune their offerings for their athletes as well as getting the word out about their brand.

no, there’s too many other companies crushing it right now. I’m bias towards Saucony because they fit my feet best, but hard to argue to buy an ON shoe with the likes of ASICS, Hoka, Saucony, Brooks, NB out there. (I left Nike out on purpose 🙊)

Purchased CloudGo a few weeks ago because I needed a new walk around shoe that I can also run in if I so desire. I don't like road running. I made the purchase mostly because REI had the orange color on sale for $75.00. I had Cloudswift for roads when I was staying in the neighborhood during the pandemic. I ordered them during Covid lockdown when everything was closed and after sending back four other brands that bothered my toes. Cloudswift fit and were comfortable but the lower sucked, that plastic plate screwed it up, plus it was a rock magnet! The innards heel cup fell apart prematurely and I swore off ON but at $75 for the $150 CloudGo I can deal with that happening. Prior to Cloudswift I had the first gen trail runner, I think CloudVenture, it fell apart too which was why Cloudswift was a shoe of last resort after everything else I ordered had fit issues. When the CloudGo goes, I would consider the CloudSurfer to replace it. The On shoes uppers are so darn comfortable and they don't constrict my toes like just about everything else other than Altra, Topo and Merrell Trail Glove.!

QD: I'm considering the monster, because I've been struggling with the higher drop of the Brooks Glycerins, and On pairs I tried didn't put as much strain through my shins (I've got high arches and need a wide toe box). As someone who tried On years ago and hated the feel of the original pods, I was pleasantly surprised on how much they've improved the feel of the shoe. On another note, On is now gaining tremendous traction in the triathlon community. They just signed all of the recent world champions and high performers of the sport (Chelsea Sodaro, Paula Findlay, Kristian Blummenfelt, Gusta Iden, and more). Their biggest controversy is the extreme stack height of their prototype that Iden wore in Kona IM world champs 2022, which has been since banned and he got a shoe penalty in his most recent short-course race. Even with that, it is exciting to see them partner to the Norwegians (who are know to experiment every single, minute detail to obtain those marginal gains) and with incredible runners of the sport like Chelsea and Paula. Who knows: we may see some interesting tech changes in the next year or two from On.

Probably will buy this shoe just based on recent reviews. I have a really hard time finding the right running shoes so I am constantly buying shoes trying to get the right ones for me. The Nike Invincibles have worked best for me and I just bought the Invincible 3. I purchased On Cloudmonster shoes a year or two ago and they did not work out for me, but I’ll keep an open mind and buy a pair of these as soon as they are available.

All the folks I see wearing On are office co-workers who are not runners and like the look. Agree with the comment. Because of your review… the “cloud surfer” is on my list for the next 365 days! Only one shoe review was a dud for me- Ascis Durablast which was almost a minimal shoe and coming from the Novablast was like night and day; redemption with the Adidas SL20.3 which is SO nice for my tempos and the CONTNiNENTAL rubber is tacky even after 50 miles! I pretty much trust your reviews but won’t buy anything below a 7 on your scale.

I feel like shoemakers achieve cushion by decreasing the density of foam. So in other shoes they inject gases but with On Running, they cut out chunks of foam from the shoe. If you talked to an engineer I feel they would say this is a bad practice. It lets you achieve more cushioning with a cheaper material, but causes extra stresses and reduced durability to the midsole. I cringe every time I see those holes. I wonder, if it's good engineering why don't other brands do it?

ON always leans towards the more expensive side of the shoe market but I don't think it's justified by the price x performance value you get out of the shoe. The only shoe companies I would pay top dollar for are Asics and New Balance.

It feels like On will soon be in the company of Saucony and Brooks. Making serious running shoes.....with a focus on quality. Their shoes have always looked great....but the performance wasn't there. I think it is now. I look forward to buying these.....and throwing my Invincible 3's in the trash.

Seems like it's a good shoe, but I've moved on from On. I've had too many issues with the On shoes I've tried in the past and there are so many better options out there now: Adidas, ASICS, Saucony, NB, Nike, Puma, Hoka. If I had unlimited budget and space to store shoes or I get freebies sent by shoe companies or retailers, sure. I'll pass. I guess this is the shoe of the month but there are many more months remaining.

This outsole will fall apart very soon and the bouncy effect will be gone even sooner. Its weak points are visible on your shots. The cutouts are too large and there is too little foam. Its collapsing already and you did only 60 miles in it.
