I had about 20 miles in this shoe when I decided to take them to Florida on my last trip. I ran the recent runDisney Weekend events in this pair and found myself answering a lot of questions for fellow runners. I really enjoyed them as I ran at paces ranging from 6:10 to 11-minute mile - depending on if I was running with friends/family for conversations; or running up to get a spot in line for a Disney Characters... My race day shoes have been Endorphin Pro 3 since they came out and I found the same great feel in this ON shoe - likeminded with your review and made me smile. When looking for a new slow and long distant runner, it came down to this shoe and the New Balance shoe (also in your video), and I am glad with my choice - also happy with the knowledge from my local shoe store… I did not expect to run that fast over the weekend (as it is not really for time) but did enjoy the shoes comfort when I did and that surprised me.

One thing I find annoying with most people who hate on all On shoes is the fact that all they seem to care about is bounce and cushion in a shoe. The Cloudflow, Cloudflash and Cloudrush are firm but snappy, and transition smoothly from mid to toe very well which is a trait that is quite consistent across all their shoes and what may be the 'precision' of On shoes that you're describing.
@kofuzi
@kofuzi Жыл бұрын
The precision I was referring to was the fit of the upper. Typically nicely dialed in When it comes to their faster firmer shoes, the response timing of the clouds seems to disagree with my footstrike. Like when the timing on a diving board is just a bit off. The foam wants to decompress when my foot is not yet ready for it
@michaeltanel3815
@michaeltanel3815 Жыл бұрын
I agree when people hate on a shoe without knowing the brand or the tech. But if On has done a poor job messaging on how their shoes are intended to feel/be used, that's not a user problem. That's an On problem. When the market tells you they don't like or understand the point of something, you have to address that or it overbears your brand message.

I am really liking this shoe a lot.....because it does not feel like the traditional On shoe. My daily training rotation has been the Novablast 3 (almost time to retire) and the Rebel V3. This Cloudsurfer iteration has broken into that inner circle. I 100% agree with your pricing commentary. The On brand markup/tax makes me cringe.

Did a event with my club and got a free pair. It was weird at first because I felt the rear of the shoe was rolling, but after breaking them in they’re so comfortable and I really enjoy this shoe since it felt more natural in my opinion. My friends preferred more cushioning. While I think it was fine since Im used to shoes with a smaller midsole. Really amazed how On is listening and counting to innovate in their products. My favorite daily runner and high mileage by quite a bit(coming from Cliftons). Super comfortable! And Maybe the best walking shoe ever.. I spent 12-13 hours walking las vegas Thursday.... including from the airport to my hotel/caesars, I was at about 14 miles when my Apple watch died... and that was a couple hours before I went back to the hotel. Normally when I walk that much I'll feel it. Even after 12 hours my feet felt great and felt great puting back on the next day. I just wish they sold these in Navy Blue so I could wear them with my scrubs at work.

@@win3326 I've been running in the Eclipse the last couple months after several pairs of Surfers. The Surfers are a little more fun and a little faster.. the Eclipse is close but a little more stability, a bit safer feeling as far as potential injury goes. It's a wash for me.. I'll likely end up getting another pair of Surfers after I run the life out of the Eclipse. Oh yeah.. the Eclipse is as good of a walking shoe.. I spent about 4 days In Washington DC sightseeing.. over 50 miles put on the Eclipse walking everywhere.. 9-10 hour days through monuments/museums/ArlingtonCemetary/Georgetown.. everywhere. Zero fatigue in the feet.. they were aweome.

@@win3326 I switched to the Eclipse a couple months ago after several pairs of Surfers. The Surfer is still probably my favorite. A few weeks ago I went to DC and walked everywhere... museums/monuments/arlingtoncemetary.. everywhere.. 10 hour + days walking and over 50 miles over the 3-4 days. @@tri0xin Thank you very much. That information is really helpful to me. I will try surfer I think, because I already have superblast for that stability and big load of foam underfoot feel. The one pros that still keeps me looking in the eclipse is the durability and being a good walking shoe. But from your last year's comment, it seems surfer is also pretty good for walking. How many miles does surfer last for you? ( my weight is around 125 lbs so I think I am on the lightweight runner)
@tri0xin
@tri0xin 6 ай бұрын
@@win3326 Yeah at your weight they'll definitely last a while. At 175lbs I usually get to 400/500 miles and start planning on replacing. I always keep the old one's for the occasional rainy/muddy runs. I don't think you can go wrong with the Surfers. Also it seems like most places will allow returns if you just don' like. I've returned one pair(can't remember what brand) to Amazon no questions asked and a local running store in town always accepts returns. Good luck!

Have tried various On shoes in the past and I like a few for casual wear but did not like any of their running shoes - both for the road and trail. They were firm and stiff, didn't fit my feet well, and just didn't provide a good ride. But, after seeing all the positive reviews from people I've come to trust, I decided to give it a try. Well, I received the new Cloudsurfer today and took it out an 8-mile run and I'm impressed. It's a unique shoe. It's somewhere in between the daily trainer and easy/recovery categories although I'm inclined to put it in the latter. But, for an easy/recovery max-cushioned variety, it's very light (mine is around 7.8 ounces or 221 grams in my size 8 US), nimble, and can keep up with faster paces. This being said, this is no speed/tempo shoe. It's really best for easy slower paces and felt great in between 8' and 9' per mile paces. It felt okay at around 7'/mile when I picked up the pace a bit but just doesn't have the energy return or the snap for going fast. It's a little too soft for that and makes you overcompensate. I slowed down and decided to keep the pace at around 8'~8'30"/mile and just enjoy the ride. It's a unique ride. To me, it's an easy/recovery/slow shoe that feels like a light daily trainer, which is very interesting. It's around 2 full ounces lighter than the Invincible Run (2 & 3), More V4, SC Trainer, and Gel-Nimbus 25 in my size, so it makes me want to go faster but feels best when I run at the pace that's best for these heavier max-cushioned shoes. The ride reminds me of those shoes but without the midsole bulk/height and the weight. I smirked at times as I ran, thinking "Well, this is rather different and in a good way." It's not as protective as the aforementioned bulkier and heavier shoes and I feel some soreness in my left knee right now which I think happened when I picked up the pace. My assessment after the first run is that I should not try to run fast in this shoe like I would with, say, the Prime X Strung or the Vaporfly 3 - two shoes I've been running in a lot lately. The ride reminds me of the Mach 5 but is softer. It's pretty soft and stability could be an issue for some people. Trying to fun fast could exacerbate the stability issue. I think I need to remember to run easy and slow when I put this On my feet (pun intended!). It's a very comfortable shoe (the upper reminds me of the Gel-Nimbus 25) and light, but it wants you to take it easy like you would with heavier max-cushioned shoes. Overall, it's a winner - the best On shoe I've tried.

On Shoe Co. rep came to our running store (Bryn Mawr Running Co.) 8 am this morning to demo this shoe before our morning club run. We took them out for a ride, most of us ran an 8 mile loop on a very muggy day (no one is acclimated yet). My personal comments are that the Cloudsurfer is like running on pillows. It is a plush ride. I recently had an ankle issue (pain. swelling) not related to specific trauma that is aggravated by pronation in walking/running and I just gingerly started up running (with some pain) again this week. Late last night I ran two easy miles in Saucony Speed 2s and my ankle blew up. I iced and took massive quantities of Vitamin I (Ibuprofen lol) fearing I would not be able to run this morning. I also feared having pain after a mile or two and having to turn back. Surprisingly, this was my first absolutely pain free run in weeks, and 10 hours later I still have no pain (and didn't even think to ice). This tells me it is a stable (not pronating) ride. I am a midfoot striker, heels on downhills maybe. I did experience hip fatigue after a few miles, which I am not sure was due to the horrid dew point/humidity and hills (566 ft elevation) where every muscle in your body hurt and my heart rate lived in Z4 a lot (hills plus my fitness drop after I missed 3 weeks of training ), or was it the softness of the shoe (and no plate or energy rods, etc.) giving my hips an added burden. Some of us concluded that it was a bit too soft for a true daily trainer or long run (over 10 miles) shoe but more suited for an easy recovery day, 5 miles at slower paces. I know one runner loved the Clousdsurfer so much after the demo run that she bought a pair for daily use, and she runs 40+ miles/week in those same hills. Many of the employees of the shoe company said they were liking/wearing them for work, specifically the standing/walking stresses of their job. One is training for a marathon in 3 weeks. Opinions vary, but the arrow seems to be pointing up.

I wonder how the foam will hold up at the connecting sections where it’s collapsing at the angle of the clouds. Usually foams are engineered for compressive forces, but here the primary cushioning mechanism is more like shearing forces of those sections of foam.

i agree, it lost its uniqueness, now it is just a cushy Hoka. Though I am not a fan of how there is less and less rubber on shoes.

I felt like it was often uniqueness for uniqueness’ sake. This is a move in the right direction. I also prefer less rubber on shoes.

The uppers are too thick and hot, just like the CloudMonster. If they could make a very lightweight breathable upper I would try them again.

Please do not get me wrong, I don't mean that offensiv, and I do agree in your points that you made in the video, but I just have to report our experience with them: I'm working in a performance diagnostics centre with a running shoe store included, we are selling only shoes with an in depth advice before, means: video analysis, feet scan, pressure plate etc: That shoe feels horrible to walk in, 6 employees, we all had knee problems after a day walking in them because the shoe has so much cushion in the heel area that it leads to an overbending knee. For running they are kinda good with a big fat BUT: Sitting on around 30pairs of them because we can't recommend them for anyone that isn't super stable during their run ankle wise. Most customers had massive supination in them. The Cloudrunner does basically everything better in every section if you compare them if you do want an ON. So we are basically on the point, that we try to exchange them with another model, similiar to the Cloudmonster there are not enough people who can run stable and healthy in them. I'm using the monster for standing during work tho lol.

@@CiluBurk ON DOES produce good shoes, the Cloudrunner for example is one of the best daily use, soft trail, and low intensity running shoe I know. But the cloudsurfer is in "our" opinion just a desaster, it feels great the first 30minutes, really, first 30 minutes it felt like the best shoe ever for daily use. But the longer you wear them (not running, walking) the more you notice, this thing is a desaster for walking at least.

Weird.. I just commented on how wonderful a walking shoe this is. I've put 50+ miles running with these.. and spent 2 days in Vegas walking probably more than 20 miles. Feels like the best walking shoe I've ever owned. My typical shoes the last few years have been the last few generations of the Cliftons, really like those too.. but I'd definitely/at this point buy another pair of Cloudsurfers over the Cliftons.

Strange comment. All the employees/runners in the shoe company where I get my shoes are liking/wearing them when working/on their feet. They had On rep this morning do a demo and the club runners all wore this shoe on our morning long run. I have other comments to post above.
@Chungdol
@Chungdol Жыл бұрын
@@kenfromphilly752 That is fine for those employees that they liked the shoe... We liked them too on the demo day, otherwise we would have not ordered so many of them. After wearing them in the store an entire day we complained all about tension and problems on the backside of the knee. Please fix your logic and understand a comment first before posting. Because I clearly said, that this shoe is "GOOD" for running... "BUT". It doesn't matter, if you are a neutral decent runner who wants/likes a max cushion shoe, this is a GOOD shoe. But we have them since release and we have not sold a single pair of them, because you can't sell them to most people after they have seen their video running in them. It is a neutral max cushion heel striking shoe = peoples feet supinate/pronate like crazy in it if they are untrained or just free time runners (or genetics). And the most people are that kind of people. And you get way better shoes, for less money. And for people like Kofuzi they are also way better options in the same price range. You can even see Kofuzi is prone to pronate in that shoe, and he is not even heel striking in them + is cutting really well. This brand seems like a religion to some people it seems.

They said the Cloud Monster was great too...at first, then not so much. Kofuzi never says anything critical either. When he says "not loving" it is code for it sucks. On running is a BS fashion brand and they are worse than Hoka. Stay away.
