High school students received their results for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) on July 10, 2019. Twelve of the highest performers in Hong Kong’s main university entrance exams come from nine elite schools.
St Francis Xavier’s College invited companion dogs Pepsi and Mung Mung to help students stay calm.

Yes! This is societal pressure. People think once removed from this environment, even if parents give no pressure in a new society, it goes away. But it doesn't. I immigrated a long time ago. This unspoken pressure is still present. It's been difficult to adapt to living without this pressure... I see my cousins raise their second generation immigrant children. They really don't have this pressure and live completely carefree. 🤦 I don't know if this self added pressure is a +/- thing. 😅

As a teacher in the US, this breaks my heart. Students you are more than a test score! You are a human being and you are so important to the world. Your life has meaning and is valid. It hurts me to know that countries outside of the states put so much emphasis on what you score determines the path you take in life. I took the SAT and bombed everything, but the essay. I ended up attending a junior college (2 year institution) then transferring to my University to complete my BA. I graduated with a BA in History and a Social Studies composite teaching certification with honors in 2019 and just landed a teaching position in December. I love my school, I love my job. I love my kids. My parents did not force me to choose a career. While people told me I would never be happy because I would not make enough money, my parents and my friends encouraged me to pursue a career that would make me happy. You should enjoy your secondary education and enjoy your college experience. And do not be afraid to change your path if you come to discover the career you thought you wanted it not what you truly want to do. And if your parents, family, teachers, or professors never told you this, then let me say it. “You should be proud of the hard work you are putting in or have put in to reach you goal. Be proud of the mistakes, hardships and trials you have faced or are facing, because those will make you grow. You are doing this for you, your happiness, your future, no one else’s”. -Ms. Lotre A high school World Geography and Economics teacher from Texas, USA.

The thing is education decides most of your future and exams and tests will remain a key component of your education and it decides which university you go to Going to a higher level university means more resources, better facilities, more competitiveness, better teachers and most importantly more career opportunities especially to work in higher-level businesses and or institutes It'll make life a whole lot better But yeah preparing for exams is stressful We have an 8th grade entrance exam and most top high-school’s will only accept admission for top students and remember it's high school admission not university Prep for most students begins in around end of 6th grade or beginning of 7th grade and it's stressful af cause firstly it's a hard paper, secondly the grading and marking is very strict, the timing given is also not that much so you have to be fast, there's also a lot of stress and it's extremely competitive putting a lot of stress especially for top students

It’s affected me so much in the past year and both my physical and mental health have deteriorated immensely. The education system is honestly terrible, although effective. This reminds me every day of that kid I once knew in my graduating high school class that committed suicide because he got a low score on the SAT & ACT...mind you his parents had super high expectations and controlled every aspect of his life from who he talked too and really honestly they cared more about the name of the college he would get into rather than his health. They wanted to brag that their child made it into this prestigious ivy league school. I remember the kid being like a blank paper, people knew his situation and became friends with him & talked. But he ignored everyone as if he didn't care...I never not think about this kid every day and if the circumstances were better he'd still be alive today.

@@James-wt5uh I remember that one time when I was in 8th grade. I was studying in a science high school in the Philippines. And each grade was divided into five sections based on our academic performance each year. We were ranked in every subject, classroom, and by the whole batch. I was in section three at that time and I was usually ranked as top 6. That quarter though, my rank dropped to top 16. My parents threatened to send me to a common public high school, took away my phone for about two months, reduced the amount of my monthly allowance by half (forever), got a 3 hour scolding, and questioned my ability to study and become successful in the future 🙃

I’m a South Korean student in America. I was born and raised in America but with more traditional values and respects of Korea and Eastern Asia. Even in American schools, where I’m expected by my family, my classmates, my teachers, and the current society we live in to outperform the norm- it becomes very overwhelming. At many points I convinced myself to have abnormally high expectations for myself, and there were also many times where all I could think about was my inferiority, and how much I would want to die (passively). I’m going into only my junior year of high school. But with a new outlook. Covid-19 is running rampant, school is even stranger than it was, and I still hate everything about the education institution. Just so far, if there’s anything I’ve learned over the past 6 years, is that students before my age should live their lives and middle and high schoolers doing the things they love. Don’t waste your time worrying about trivial things like I did. Your educational experience in school is only a fraction of a fraction of what the years to come will bring.

The schooling system is unnatural, it was created to train young people to do what they're told and prepare them to work in factories. We should be learning through mentorships and apprenticeships, learning the trades of our father/mother/family or training with a mentor/scholar in small groups of 10 or less. The modern schooling system is focused more on scores than on actual learning.

I remember having my first 50% exam result on my test back in 4th grade and it felt like I wanted to move to a new house or to an island where no one would find me with that failure. Yeah, the house was VERY VERY LIVELY when they found out.

This video got recommended to me today right before my exam tmr, oh what a great timing, I’m now form 4 (high school, grade ten? I think ?) in HK and I’m already so scared/stressed that I would fail in this exam, and, in the future, DSE exam. Best of luck to all of you and I’m rooting for anyone who’s going through tough time, we can do this :D !!

Wow, the amount of pressure in those countries are no joke. I suddenly feel grateful for my school. Here, we only have to do the bare minimum to get into colleges and universities. We only have to pass the exam requirements and you're in. Putting so much focus on getting the perfect grades is not the way to let a child live.

I mean it’s not just the DSE in Hong Kong,Recently a middle school girl(13 years old) committed suicide in a parking lot 15 minutes away from my home. Reports said it was all due to stress anxiety and a new principal that was too strict. One of my classmates was a close friend of her. So to everyone in world,I hope that you not only word hard but think positively, not everything is defined by a grade even in a stressful environment,we should try are best and give are all. Even if we don’t succeed. We still have a future. Everyone has a future. -a 6th grader in HongKong🧡💛❤️💙💜

Does anyone remember that one video on Finland’s school system? Their is such a difference in these methods. Like how a lot of the time Asian countries work on pushing students over their limits to test their abilities, but Finland works on more of creative thinking.
