I took my husband and son to Montana last summer. We did a loop from Livingston to Lamar Valley in Yellowstone to Cooke City through the Beartooth Hwy back to Livingston in one day. As a child, my family often drove through Cooke City on our way to Canada to see family. That little town seriously ignited my love of the forest. I told my parents I would live there one day. Gorgeous. I loved seeing it again. 😍

I just moved from Red Lodge MT on March 1st, 2024, where I lived for 14 months. While living there, I drove the Beartooth Hwy 5 times to see it in all the seasons from June to October. I love it and loved living there too. But after 2.5 years total altogether in Montana, although I love the snow and enjoy snow skiing, the winters lasted 7 months. Had it been shorter winters, I would not have moved. I'm glad you finally got to see it.

Most YT creators no doubt are in constant anxiety about keeping up their content quality, production and presentation, IMHO. That said, Catherine seems able always to effortlessly meet or exceed the quality of her past episodes. I think that's extraordinary, and today's episode is proof, again, IMHO. This channel is tops in this genre, no offense to many other fine creators whose channels I'm also a subscriber to.

LOVE the beartooth highway! Crazy scary in spots, breathtaking scenes, unforgettable! We drove it in the our 24 ft Unit RV. The summer we were there, the snow banks beside the road were towering walls and those little lakes near the top were still frozen solid…. Wanna go again!

Truly one of the most majestic, awe-inspiring drives in America. Out of all our travels out west, this road always sticks in our minds. We did it in a modified Jeep years ago and we were able to take some trails down off the Beartooth into some of the valleys. Breathtaking is all we can say. Thanks for the memories.

Hello Catherine, I was on bear tooth and Red lodge, Yellowstone, Gardiner during that flood, It was crazy. While in Red lodge got swarmed by moths at night. Some people had to leave. They lasted a couple of days. There were logs brought down the river and through the buildings in Red Lodge. I was at Perry’s Rv park. Loved that whole area so much. Have fun. Thanks for my memory.

Hi Cat, thanks for this wonderful jaunt along the Beartooth. I drove it back in 1994 but got into a fender bender about halfway. Now that I have seen what I missed, I want to go back and enjoy the ride. I really like when you give a brief history of these western small towns. Thanks, David

Thank you! The Beartooth Highway is one of my favorite drives in America. I've taken it once with my mom and then again with my mom, a sister and my adolescent niece and nephew. Everyone has loved it! It is so magical! I live in Pennsylvania at the moment, but another of my favorite drives is the "Million Dollar Highway" from Ouray to Silverton in Colorado, while another is Rte 89A between Flagstaff and Sedona, Arizona. I could go on and on, but those are at the top! Great video, thanks.

I lived in Billings for a decade, so I have been her many times, thanks for the memory! My favorite memory was taking a mountain bike with me to the summit, put my teen son on it and followed him to Red Lodge. The slop was such that he had no need to peddle, and no his speed did not hinder traffic, it was the ride of his life, that was a happy boy...ha.

The grizzlies up there stay out of view pretty well, did find one in the woods in the Top of the World area. BTW Catherine, the tundra up there above the tree line is wonderfully full of flower blossoms about a month earlier if you want to go there again. A walk in the high mountain tundra does a sole good..... I still feel it!

In 1988 my wife (Pat) and I, she was on a Gold Wind pulling a cycle camp trail and I was on a Venture, and we wanted to go into Yellowstone and then exit via the beartooth. Well Yellowstone was closed due to fires so we went around Yellowstone staying in Red Lodge. Pat passed 2008 but in 2018 on my motorcycle (BMW R1200RT) I stayed at Top of the World and dove the beartooth in the morning almost 30 years to the day Pat and I would have! Such a grand bitter sweet memory and ride.

When it is hot out camping. Like this year coming up, on Labor Day weekend, I go dove hunting with my uncle and cousin. We come back, take a nice shower in the campground facilities and my wife and my aunt, make tacos, tamales, and gazpacho for dinner. Gazpacho is great when it is hot. We have incorporated pineapple. Try it when it is hot out, very refreshing, that is what the Mexicans created it for. It is a cold soup basically.
