Nice boat in great condition in paradise. What more could you ask for? Hmm, let me think. Best time to beach is slightly after high tide (peak) so the boat can easily be re-floated on the peak of high tide.

Hello, thank you for yet another impressing episode! I really follow you with the outmost interest and respect, having worked a "whole life" in the banking industry - I am so stoked by your bold way of breaching the waves since some decades ago.
@garenkarapetian7094 жыл бұрын
Wow - you seem to know so much about sailboats. Which other production sailboats can be used for safe beaching? For instance, 1993 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42.1 (as well as many others) have a folding keel. But is that the only criterion for safe beaching without any structural risk?
@6r4metroman5 жыл бұрын
Stunning location :-)
@southshoreadventures4 жыл бұрын
Very cool. So the keel collapses as the tide goes down and you can manually lower it as it comes up? Great way to lay flat on a beach. Amazing. What controls this? Sounded like air pressure.
@sailinginstructor4 жыл бұрын
very good content and your sound is impeccable! well done guys... Im a new sub! Hoping to one day be able to make vids like you! I just started...
@DistantShoresTV4 жыл бұрын
Hey Wayfarer welcome aboard and thanks for the kind words! Our sound does take quite a lot of work. In fact the sound on this video was VERY bad especially the part with me underneath the boat talking about the propellor. But since we wanted to use the footage we did ADR and replaced dialog with new clean sound recorded in the studio. ADR means "Automatic Dialog Replacement" (but its not actually automatic ;-) Hollywood movies do this process as well, and it means you have to act the lines you spoke onscreen and then get them to sync up with the lips to replace the original dialog. It takes quite a while. Doing the 2 minutes of the prop review took a couple of hours... But its worth it for good sound. Thanks for noticing :-)
@openup0074 жыл бұрын
please explain what "drying out the boat" means and why (if for any reason) that's important. thank you. (Great channel) :)
@tomriley57903 жыл бұрын
In this case I think they mean beaching it and letting it be supported by its keel. You can also dry boats out on land and sometimes it is necessary to try and reduce mositure levels in the structure of a boat if there has been a problem with its construction and water has gotten in but I don't think that's the case here.

Hi :) Beautiful footages :) Wouldn't a keel reaching a ground be a some sort of issue for the hull? 'Cause when the hull is being moved by waves and wind, and keel is kinda fixed to ground, it may cause stress at the place where its mounted.

@jimmerriman69204 жыл бұрын
Does beach the yacht and putting 38,000 -40,000 of weight on the keel and somewhat less on the two rudders exert any pressure on them to keep the boat upright? Logically it seems like a lot of weight and therefore pressure on the rudders. But I'd imagine the Southerly Yachts did a lot of engineering studies to engineer strength into the rudders, but maybe there is an explanation as well?
@mobyhunr4 жыл бұрын
I would never do this intentionally
@DistantShoresTV4 жыл бұрын
The boat is designed to sit level on her keel plate (which is flat) so she sits upright. The skeg under the prop also touches the bottom. The rudders are an inch shorter than that so they just sit in the sand. The rudders are very strong but do not take weight when the yacht is dried out.

I'm very curious, is there a way to operate the swinging keel manually if the hydraulic system has a problem?
@viatormarine4 жыл бұрын
I had a manual hydraulic swinging keel on my Seascape 27, which is very light in comparison. It was a heavy work to lift the keel. I presume it is not possible or really slowly on such a big boat.
