When I mentioned inviting Bassem for a discussion it was expressly to see his thoughts picked apart for the sly deceit they were. I just thought you'd be the right person to do the job. Omg I just wanted to post a comment on your channel that you have a doppelganger with the name of bassem youssef 😂 I can’t believe when I went on your channel you made a video about him! He reminded me so much of you - not his polit. stance but his look, humor, personality etc. He used to be a heart surgeon that’s why he’s probably one of the smarter/sharper comedians.. his politic. stance is very debatable (even though some points can’t be refuted imho such as him saying why would it change this time if it hasn’t in the last few decades and he did condemn the rad. on his side) but he has a certain charisma I must admit..and you could tell he was in pain during the interview. I always try to assess someone’s motivation/motives for what they say and in his case you could tell it was pain especially after he showed the b house of his family.. I tend to defend the other side more but in this specific case he seems like a good person overall.. This said, all your points make sense such as Arab doctors and polit. in Isr. / the overall tolerance vs overall intolerance of different nation. However, retaliation should never aim at innocent people (that would mean it is not retaliation)- just like any other at. should never aim at innocent people. I understand that this might be impossible to achieve in practice but at the same time it still remains to be true - if innocent are k. it’s not really retaliation but something else.. but as an outsider I don’t have any solution how both sides could solve their neverending conflict. But how about the US stops getting involved in all those conflicts because they only seem to make the situations in that region worse every time they interject themselves. Apart from maybe 1 exception they never helped improved the status quo anywhere but rather facilitating more chaos in that region

As an Egyptian, Bassem should look to his regime and ask why they have made the conflict worse at every turn. Even now, when there could be a ground invasion at any time, Egypt has sealed the southern border of Gaza. Palestinians are worth more to Arab leaders dead than alive. Bassem Youssef wasn't playing a game of "who has the most intellectual speech". He wanted to reach the hearts of people, and he did. For that reason he was brilliant. You shouldn't sit in a position of arrogance and judge through your own subjective and selective lens and present it as an absolute truth to your audience. Especially when, in 11 minutes, you actually don't address any of the points he was making, you just brush it all with a completely different argument. The point you are making doesn't remove anything from the validity of all the points he was making about (among others) the horrendous disproportionality of killing since decades.

He didn't seems to want to be there to express and debate, but rather take the piss and be extremely sarcastic when a more intellectual debate was required. Over all, like many many muslims, they can't see how morally bankrupt their own community is reacting to this. IMHO Palastine & hamas should admit defeat and stop trading their civilian souls for bullshit resistance movements, it simply wont work, and just proves how morally inept they are even when in conflict. Admit defeat as the weaker side, enter the negotiation table in good faith, and integrate into Israeli society, or leave! its really that east!

@@TheSabatuer "integrate into Israeli society"? That's the last thing Israelis want. Palestinian population growth is about 2.5% per year, compared to Israel's 1.5%. Over half of Palestinians are under 18. They will outnumber Israelis in about 50 years.
@AmSeris
@AmSeris 11 ай бұрын
@@TheSabatuer The western media needed a reality check and this was exactly that. When you're asked "what's an appropriate response" is already trying to mold the conversation in the western narrative which is not needed right now because countless other "intellectuals" are already calculating that crap like its stocks. What the western media needed was a clear reminder that these are people not statistics, and there is no such thing as an appropriate response when we're talking about an 80 year conflict. Like seriously? As if Hamas isn't a direct "appropriate response" to Israel's actions. It's a never ending topic. Instead how about we stop people's suffering and tackle humanizing them again? Israel had decades to stop Hamas from existing and giving Palestinians their rights. They've even been warned about this very attack. Now it happens and you think "appropriate response?" How about an appropriate response from the international community on Israeli's absolute neglect of the matter despite being the functioning state of the two? Let's pretend they're aren't breaching humanitarian and international treaties by illegally blockading Gaza, and occupying the west bank, and imprisoning 20% of the Palestinian population. Shocker! Shit happened! Now they're entitled to a "response". Hilarious how you and others think it is okay for western media to talk about "responses" when its about Israel, but not when it is about Palestine. This was ridiculous and Bassem showed exactly why. Bassem is not entitled to answer Piers' questions just like how Piers straight up said "I'm not here to answer your questions Bassem". In fact, I'd say he showed a degree of unprofessionalism himself. He kept interrupting Bassem's points, who's a guest on his show. Why bring him if you're not going to hear him out? They chose Bassem, and he came with his message. If I brought you to a discussion right now and then suddenly said "What do you think is an appropriate response from Palestine to the transgressions of Israel over the last few decades?" as Palestinians were slaughtering Israelis all across the country. You are a Jewish person with family in Israel. What would be your response? Emotionally explain why these people are human and there is no such thing as "appropriate response" or follow the narrative and say "uhhm,, well, kill the higher ups who were responsible for the occupation and a few civilians on the way is inevitable to install a new government that is accepting of a Palestinian state". Instead, what I'm left with is preplanned talking points, how what he's doing isn't special or unique and like what happened in the interview, no answer to the pertinent point: if it's only Hamas, why are the people in the West Bank not only getting killed at a disproportional rate and moreover, why're Israeli settlers able to murder Palestinian citizens at will. Quite frankly, if a student was submitting such a rebuttal, a critical analysis on the conversation for a university assignment, they'd score quite low with such an abysmal presentation of the facts and evidence. And for the record, your argument on proportionality not only doesn't answer his question either, it's also kinda baffling: "No one ever talks about proportionality in any other conflict, but Israel has to be held to a truly impossible moral standard." The moral standard for Israel is already very low, if it's held to any standard outside of the West bubble at all. I admit though, it wouldn't be a very good interview with you two side by side, because when you're making that bizarre point, he'll just hold up the sheet of paper and the conversation would go nowhere. With him taking what you do very well, satire, and you having no real position outside Israel has a high moral standard, if you don't account for the high murder rate by the IDF, the random killings by Israeli settlers and just random bombings, as a country just does to one another, maybe you'd have a point. Don't get it twisted, I'm not pro-Hamas, they truly are monsters and I think the IDF isn't too bad when it's not sniping children, killing journalists or just casually committing ethnic hate crimes with a casual tint of ethnic cleansing. Ignoring all of that, they're alright, I guess. But regardless, the proportionality that was discussed is something this video has no answer for whether it's in Gaza or the West Bank. So ultimately this video doesn't answer anything but come off as, in my opinion, jealousy of someone who can do what you do better.

@georgehetty7857 he certainly did. War is futile. It leads to more hate, more degradation and destabilisation. He made it very clear that when we dehumanised a people (it happens on both sides) we can slaughter them as rats. This is why on the one hand..a solution is for Israel to flatten gaza and eject the people then annexe it..sounds fine to many..but they're not involved and it doesn't affect them. This is no different than the annexation of crimea, in that it still has the ability to escalate. What is the , final solution? In fact the final solution is peace. It seems so unlikely to achieve this. He cleverly steers us into all of the conundrums faced whilst agreeing, correctly that the massacre of innocent Israelis was indeed an act of repulsive barbarity. However he then makebislt clear that the exchange rate of proportional response is indeed a sick joke. 2014 demonstrates that clearly. If you can't see the brutal honesty in youseff's commentary that flips things back without treading the 1000 plus year history of Israel and instead makes you think about all human life, then perhaps you aren't listening because you take umbrage with what you THINK he is saying. He isn't saying anyone deserves it. He is not calling for the destruction of Israel, merely pointing out the problems of war and the solution of peace.

Finally, the reason why there are terrorist is because of extremism. Extremism is borne, generally, out of extremities and subjugation. You create hate, dissolutionment, anger, frustration, resignation... all part of what creates a terrorist cult, and the support of one, when the playing fields are unequal. Poor people will be more likely to fight than those who are comfortable. This dehumanisation of a group of people is exactly what allows atrocities. Committing those barbaric acts still ends in death. It doesn't actually matter how that death comes about ..your still blown to pieces, burned to death, buried in rubble...you're dead and no one cares other than the families. Distance creates dissociation. That again allows atrocities. He says all of this without having to utter these words.

@@georgehetty7857 There is nothing to oppose in that argument. Piers is already making a statement. "What is the appropriate response Israel should have had to Hamas attack". It all builds up a narrative where Israel is a responder and is entitled to "respond" in some capacity. Bassem clearly showed that Israel has been "responding" to pretty much nothing all the time. It really didn't matter. Which means it is the instigator, and Hamas is the responder. It really isn't that hard to grasp. "Intellectual opposition" maybe you're missing that if you think there was none in his brilliant satire bit. Well democracy has been used against Russia and China (previously Iraq and Libya), as this is ethical standpoint on which the western (Anerican and European) and especially Israel stands, claims Gad. So the life and freedom of people in Gaza and west bank is not really important as long as the democratic Israel lives on to enhance the individual freedom of its citizen, whether it's arabs, jews and others. Just like what the European did to the native American in the past as Bassem cheekily mentioned; killed them till they reach as very small population and gave them a land for them to stay on later on (liken it to a zoo for human animal) 💁 Can't wait democracy to prevail, when real war occurs between Iran, Russia, China and North Korea who have an actual modern army... whether the cost is worth for all the lives and suffering.

What BS Gad Saad. He was nuanced. Everything you say here, does not address the problems! The main question he asked is HOW DO THE ACTIONS OF ISRAEL NOW CHANGE ANYTHING FOR THE BETTER IN THE FUTURE? He showed clearly that it didn't work in the past. Please explain! Also just because countless people died in the past doesn't mean we can add to it with impunity now, because the numbers are not important... How often in my life have I heard that the Nazis killed 6 million Jews! Probably 6 million times. And then I hear how many died due to the atrocious attack of HAMAS (which did not come out of the blue sky!), but now that it is Israels turn, the numbers suddenly don't matter.. What hypocrisy... You are only defending yourself right? You know what!? The other side thinks the same! They think some "lawn mowing" is needed too! What is needed is what the UN says since decades! You need to pull out the biggest motivation for all of this: Which is a state for the Palestinian people. If Israel really wants to protect its own citizens AND the Palestinian civilians, then it would declare: We want to stop fueling the hate. No more "lawn mowing", collective punishment, blockade, excessive retaliation. We declare Palestine will get its state. We will define a UN sanctioned definite Milestone plan that will implement this step by step. This is how you pull out the support for HAMAS! Oh wait but maybe Israel doesn't want that, because it was actually Israel who made HAMAS! They support HAMAS. Why? I dare you to discuss not only Youssef, but especially Max Blumenthal, Aaron Mate, Gabor Mate, Norman Finkelstein! And I even would add Scott Ritter now. None of which justify any senseless brutality by the Israel created HAMAS! However they know the seed where this all comes from. And if you do not want to talk about the actual cause, but only about symptoms then this will never end! Then you are just another spoke in the wheel of violence. And all this talk about Human Shields. You really think any HAMAS fighter feels safer because there are civilians near them? When did Israel EVER say, ah let's better not attack because we would kill innocents? As the US, Israel showed with their actions absolutely clearly since decades that they do not care about "collateral" damage at all. Because any and all collateral damage is the enemies fault. What a perverted logic. Not only that but they announced that there will be no criminal investigations, no matter what the IDF does. Surely sounds like the good guys.

There is a place for disproportionate response if you relate it to whatever end goal is at play. Due to the history of the Middle East for the minorities that have lived there under Islamic rule since hundreds of years (Ottoman Turks and before). If your civilization is threatened, or risks to be greatly hamred, a disproportionate response has it's place if you put into the context of survival of cultures and civilization (seemingly all Arab and Muslim countries wish to see Israel destroyed or reduced) . Islam has been the scourge and oppressor of minorities since hundreds of years and if I had a chance to go back in history I would also use disproportionate response to prevent my people from becoming dislodged and obliterated (Assyrians). Islam was used as the great differentatior, hard power (genocide, pogroms and massacres) and soft power (legislation, cultural oppression). Morality is all good and well, but one must be a dreamer if you believe morality, however unfortunate, has a place in the vanguard of war, especially in the long and bloody history of the Middle East. Islam has and will continue to be a religion of expansionism and a goal justifies the means-ideology with aggression and violence as central tenets, both in it's writing and according to the actions and words of it's central characters. Unfortunately there was no social media a hundred years ago and as such we can't see what history has done to the Armenians, Assyrians, Pontic Greeks ripped from their ancestral lands in the Middle East, persecuted into oblivion (1500 individuals are the only ones left in from where I'm from in SE Turkey). So that goes both ways for both aggressors and defenders, If one need disproportionate response to prevent it, you should use it 10 times out of 10 it all comes down to for what cause you choose to fight.

Dude u can label it, down talk it, normalise it, he did a great job. One thing in particulair i liked realy hard what he said was: being in relation with the israeli state is being in a relationship with a narcisist/narcisistic psychopath. I fully support this statement 100% And this is what is comming if you are lucky, it could get a lot worse, ben you and a lot of zionists from all over the world have no problem with taking it further. You/they keep showing us with every outing, the shaming and labeling with no compassion what so ever for the other side... Besides the expected "i believe no women children or innocent civilians should get harmed" speech i see no compassion from the zionist side and i dont believe them when they say this🙂 Maybe yall should read my email and comments again? Because multiple things i mentioned yall still did with no remorse from some, dr Bret Weinstein was nicest i still have some faith in him. For being the selfproclaimed chosen ones and the selproclaimed smartest people on the planet/of all people on earth on average, you all are not acting very socially nice/religious or respectful to others. Also not very smart because even when i told u upfront my problem and how narcisist think they can treat me and my ideas it still happened. This is not new to me this is what i learned dealing with people/narcisist and or psychopaths. I wrote about it explained it and what did people still do? America also has showen the world that they and their media are not trustworthy and very biased. America should think twice or a few times for sending their children to fight your battles for you and do your dirty work... Pretty weak and feminine of them chosen ones and smartest people on average... To Ben i would say, your and my whole history is full of these stories of your people being all high and mighty chosen one like and then the whole people had to suffer the consequentions. And this is only because some of us also started to write history down because when ever we start to compare pre Christian scribtures the stories were a little different... Personally when i found out about deeznutzius (if you dont know look it up) and saw how dr P was is doing it, i see this (could be) happening for thousands of years... I think you all (zionists) need a scrooge (a visit of the spirits of life/humsnity) dream and or moment

Dr. Saad- I am usually a huge fan while I agree that on the surface Israel holds the western values we cherish. We should also need to be objective about the fact what Israel is doing is ATM an abuse of power. I don't think that Gazans children ( I think they are 2 Palestinian countries at this point) should be put in the crossfire.The IDF and Mossad can take out Hammas leaders with much less brute force. While Gaza has been free from Israeli control for 15 years they are also being blocked off on all sides , Egypt included. I don't think that moving Gazans to Egypt as refugees is a solution. They would never be allowed to come back. Lastly, as a person who's in the middle of it all (Egyptian Christian living in Canada), I think that Bassem has some good points that you should acknowledge and not downright dismiss them as "nassnassa" or as we say in Egypt "lo2m" or "darb ta7t el hezzam". Thanks. Would love an opportunity to chat with you

Zionism is socialistic and does not share western values. It is a socialist political ideology and system. They hate Christians and are extremely racist toward anyone that is not like them. They also hate the Ethiopian African Jews. And the Orthodox Jews that oppose their occupation of Palestine as a nation. They abuse and jail those Orthodox Jews for not accepting and complying to the Zionist socialistic/marxist system.

Professor, I have always enjoyed your content so please continue doing good work. However, I do not think we should condone human suffering regarles of who is causing it. It was wrong when Hamas crossed into Israel and committed atrocities. Just as it is wrong shelling a region that Israeli intelligence says it’s where “the bad guys” are. The same intelligence that was oblivious to the large number of hamas “soldiers” that had been training for a year and were planing to cross into Israel. Just as it is wrong when a rocket hits a hospital and a school. I obviously believe in western values. And yes Israel better represents those values than the people of Gaza. That doesn’t mean that I will condone the needless suffering of others simply because the ones causing the suffering align with my world view. You do not get to punish innocent people because criminals and murderers might be among them.

@ponygirl1716
@ponygirl1716 11 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what is proportional about armed men slaughtering over 250 people at a music festival or kidnapping elderly women and babies, but of course we don't hold t-error-ists to the same standard as nation-states. Even so, I have to admit I'm a bit perplexed by the idea that Israel should exercise extraordinary restraint after some 1400 of its citizens and guests were bu.tchered by Hamas t-error-ists. They are not targeting civilians. They are actively warning residents that they are going to strike a particular target, and they continue to advise them to leave northern Gaza entirely. It is unreasonable to expect Israel to sit on its hands because Hamas chooses to use civilians as human shields.

So what would you say is a proportionate response? Should Israel have waited for a music festival In Palestine and slaughtered the same amount of Palestinian party goers in the same manner? Should they have kidnapped the same age grouped people and kept them in some tunnels? Or maybe rape the same amount of women? It’s time we stop giving radical Islamists empathy. As they used to chant “Saturday first, Sunday next”. Do you know what that means? If not, that says it all to me.
@Sneakyboson

If you wanted 'proportionality' then you would expect to see the IDF select over a 100 innocent young Gazan's as hostages and take them back to Israel, and while they're there - rape a slew of young women, machine gun and burn babies well as shoot the elderly while they wait for buses. Such a stupid argument.
