As part of our continuing series "On The Road," Steve Hartman revisits Woody Davis of Corbett, Oregon, who touched his local community with his generosity. Residents were able to return the favor during Davis' final months as he battled Lou Gehrig's disease.

This kind of story tells you _exactly_ what you should do every day. Tell those who matter to you what they mean to you, and why you feel that way, *_before_* another sun sets... for a new day may not come for one of you. Regret is a bitter pill to swallow-- especially when you have just been shown the impact with this story alone what that impact means to the person. Don't wait until they are told they are dying, don't wait for anything. Do it now. You may think that they already know... I would bet you that they do *_not._* Everything that happens after a person is gone is just for the people left behind. Nothing meaningful for the one who is gone at that time. That is why you must do it _before_ they are gone. If you waste a minute, an hour, a day, a week, a month... that person will never have known the truth of how you felt about them, and everything that you appreciated about them (it is foolish to even think this way). This does not mean just the ill, or the very old. This means everyone that you have gratitude and love for, and why. ~Peace!

What a beautiful story. I struggled not to cry. I lost! 700 people! What a blessing! So sweet the family got to feel the love from the community before it was too late. I always say “if you can’t be bothered bringing me flowers while I’m alive and can enjoy them, don’t bother putting them on my grave after I’m gone and can’t see them. Then you’re just buying them for you!” Thank you Steve! Great story!

This is so hard to watch my aunt carol passed so fast from als she put up such a good fight it was hard for her to let me see her and it was hard for me to see her but that last visit when I saw her I knew it would’ve my last she passed two days after seeing her she was at peace knowing I loved her so much that I even got a tattoo for her a promise to see her again it doesn’t matter that I only knew her for about two years she was my whole world and I was hers she taught me so much with out even saying a word but through her eyes and actions she always called me beautiful and because of that I learned what self confidence is and no one will ever take that away from me

We literally have the identical samething going on here in our small town of council grove ks, the towns furniture seller and a great handyman passed suddenly of a heart attack this past friday, the entire community enjoyed this man as much as the community loved the kind man in this video. Folks, be kind to one another, it genuinely makes a difference.

Wihl Zhini I can relate to you my good sir. Being a bipolar type 2 patient, I also have emotional distractions from committing acts of kindness. the method I have found to combat this, is using the acts of kindness you do reach put and do, treat as a justification to keep living. it will spark a need and addiction to kindness, That feels so necessary, it will be even harder to ignore than your anger. All it takes is the first step.
